Purpose: One of the significant consequences of changes in the contemporary Polish labor market is the growing importance of flexible forms of employment, including self-employment. A special type of self-employment is economically dependent self-employment (EDSE), in which the entrepreneur provides services exclusively or to a large extent to one entity in a manner similar to the performance of work under an employment relationship. The growing popularity of this type of flexible forms of relations between the employee and the employer prompted us to ask the following questions: What are the similarities and differences between organizations in terms of HRM activities with respect to EDSE and subordinate employees (SE)? Design/methodology/approach: The researchers used the data from quantitative research (CATI), conducted on a representative sample of 380 business entities from Poland. The objective of the empirical analysis was to group the organizations according to the criterion of differentiating their HRM activities in relation to EDSE and SE. Findings: The analysis allowed to distinguish three groups: ‘Traditionalists’ focusing on subordinate workers; ‘Transforming’ presenting a similar approach to EDSE and SE, with a slightly greater focus on SE, and ‘Genuinely equal’ having the same approach to EDSE and SE. The organizations mostly or to a large extent apply the principles of equality (i.e. various HRM instruments apply equally to EDSE and SE) or dedicate solutions to SE to a greater extent. Originality/value: The value of the research is to conduct extensive research on a representative sample of Polish companies on HRM in an increasingly flexible labor market. The research contributes to the growing trend of research on subordinate and economically dependent self-employed workers, extending it to HRM perspective.

The aim of the article is an attempt to state whether the changes introduced in the HRM process in selected city offices in Poland were an expression of social responsibility, contributed to the improvement of the quality of work of officials and customer service of these offices. Design/methodology/approach: The research allowing for this answer was carried out on the basis of the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) method, and the sample in the research were employees of selected city offices. Research limitations/implications: It was found that the CSI method can be used equally effectively in the satisfaction of external and internal customers. Practical and social implications: The conducted study allowed for the conclusion that the assessment of the quality of intelligent solutions related to the area of social responsibility undertaken as part of human resource management was assessed by the respondents at an average level. Originality/value: The original element of the study on the basis of which the article was prepared was the use of the CSI method to survey employee satisfaction with work based on Smart City solutions.

Introduction/background: The public health crisis, which was the Covid-19 pandemic, made it necessary to introduce changes in the HRM (human resource management) process in almost all organizations and industries. One of the industries that felt the negative effects of the crisis in a very severe way was the catering industry. Both owners of catering enterprises as well as employees in the industry had to face the challenges posed by an unexpected crisis situation. Aim of the paper: The main aim of this paper was to identify human resource management challenges and activities in the catering industry in times of Covid-19 pandemic in Poland. Materials and methods: The work uses source material in the form of literature on the subject of the crisis, as well as available reports and studies that were created during and immediately after the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Primary research was carried out on the basis of a survey method. The questionnaire was distributed among the owners or managers of catering enterprises, as well as to industry’s employees. Results and conclusions: The pandemic was an unexpected phenomenon, and its effects left a significant mark on the processes related to human resource management. Organizations are faced with increased competition in the war for talent, and their sustained competitive advantage may depend on the ability to attract suitable candidates. The gamification of HR recruitment processes can be one solution, as it creates employer brand awareness and enables candidates to better assess their fit with the organizational culture and job requirements. Based on a comprehensive literature review and through focus groups and qualitative content analysis, we develop guidelines for effective application design and implementation. Our findings are mirrored against UTAUT 2 theory and consolidated in a Model for Acceptance of Gamified Recruitment Elements. Results suggest that gamified recruitment is an effective option to support traditional recruitment processes in orienting candidates and companies about the individual employer fit, ultimately increasing the quality of applications and strengthening organizations’ talent pools. From the results, we derive guidelines on how to effectively implement design features.

The COVID-19 pandemic requires many companies changing the way of their operations because of the lock down of movement and limitation of facing contact, etc. This also is an opportunity for companies to utilize technology and use digital space to keep their works and companies' activities. Companies can encourage their labors via policies of promotions. However, how to evaluate employee performance fairly, unbiasedly, and transparently? The existence of AI (Artificial Intelligence), especially machine learning, might be a solution for this due to the fact that it can automatically evaluate individual workers' performance. Therefore, the performance evaluation process ensures that the system works without interference from people outside of the system. In the paper, a framework of KPIs building systems to evaluate individual workers is represented as a solution for applying the advantage of AI (machine learning techniques) in Vietnamese companies. It can help them to improve the labor productivity and increase the workers' quality in the labor market in general.

Purpose: The publication’s purpose is to demonstrate how training affects the development of soldiers in the armed forces and shapes discipline within the military. Design/methodology/approach: As part of the conducted works, the following research questions were raised: Q1. Is the amount of training sufficient to ensure proper development of a soldier and to make him follow instructions and orders? Q2. Do superiors use all available forms of training? A total of 103 soldiers of the Repair Battalion participated in the study from March to April 2018. Findings: The study shows that the delivered trainings ensure the proper functioning of the unit, an appropriate level of discipline and provide a soldier with an opportunity to develop professionally. However, only 53.7% of soldiers believe that superiors use all available forms of training. This may be caused by inadequate knowledge of the legal acts, which was confirmed by up to 30% of the respondents. Originality/value: This publication covers the subject of human resource management, in particular the area of training, emphasising: the importance of knowledge of the legal acts (specificity of the organisation under study) that affect the “training programme” and the number of trainings necessary to exercise the profession and to apply for promotion, as well as to shape the expected level of discipline. This paper is dedicated to people involved in the training and/or management of human resources and civil servants.

Labor absenteeism is a factor that affects the good performance of organizations in any part of the world, from the instability that is generated in the functioning of the system. This is evident in the effects on quality, productivity, reaction time, among other aspects. The direct causes by which it occurs are generally known and with greater reinforcement the diseases are located, without distinguishing possible classifications. However, behind these or other causes can be found other possible factors of incidence, such as age or sex. This research seeks to explore, through the application of neural networks, the possible relationship between different variables and their incidence in the levels of absenteeism. To this end, a neural networks model is constructed from the use of a population of more than 12,000 employees, representative of various classification categories. The study allowed the characterization of the influence of the different variables studied, supported in addition to the performance of an ANOVA analysis that allowed to corroborate and clarify the results of the neural network analysis.
