Since the inception of the L2 motivational self system (Dörnyei, 2005), which operationalises motivation as a function of learners’ future identities, the field of L2 motivation has seen a growing interest in mental imagery. Numerous studies have examined the role of a future self-guide, that is, the ideal L2 self, and have confirmed it to be powerful for explaining learner motivation (e.g., Csizér & Lukács, 2010; Dörnyei & Ushioda, 2009); however, few studies have explored how mental imagery, a key dimension of the ideal L2 self (Dörnyei & Chan, 2013), can manifest itself in actual motivated behaviour. Using in-depth interviews, the present study aims to explore the motivational capacity of the natural use of mental imagery in three doctoral candidates studying at a British university. The main research focuses on examining how imagery was employed to stimulate the participants’ L2 learning and their doctoral research as well as career choice. This paper proposes a conceptual framework of types, functions, and conditions of imagery in academic and professional achievements based on the data obtained. It reveals an intriguing array of imagery types, functions, and conditions, which shape the achievement of the individuals’ desired goals. Recommendations and implications for future research on imagery use in SLA are also discussed.

This paper focuses on Indonesian and Polish idioms analysed from an inter-lingual standpoint, with particular emphasis on their image components. The research material comes from general and specialized (phraseological) dictionaries of both languages. The objective is to assign Polish translation equivalents to selected Indonesian idioms. As no text corpora or translation series are available for Indonesian and Polish, the investigation is limited to systemic (lexicological) equivalence. The analysis of the Polish equivalents of Indonesian idioms covers stable set phrases which carry the same image, idioms which carry an analogous image, and idioms with identical meaning which carry a different image. Also considered are false equivalents (pseudo-equivalents).

Vision, that is, the mental representation of the sensory experience of a future goal state (involving imagination and imagery), is currently at the forefront of motivational innovation, and in recent years it has been seen increasingly more often in the motivational tool kit of practicing language teachers. Theories such as Dörnyei’s L2 motivational self system have explored the power that creating effective visions can harness (see, e.g., Dörnyei & Kubanyiova, 2014) and when viewed in conjunction with other current research avenues, such as future time perspective and dynamic systems theory, vision offers exciting potential. A Directed Motivational Current is a new motivational construct that we suggest is capable of integrating many current theoretical strands with vision: It can be described as a motivational drive which energises long-term, sustained behaviour (such as language learning), and through placing vision and goals as critical central components within this construct, it offers real and practical motivational potential. In this conceptual paper, we first discuss current understandings of vision and of Directed Motivational Currents, and then analyse how they may be optimally integrated and employed to create effective motivational pathways in language learning environments.

The analysis of phraseological units and their cross-linguistic equivalents, in which imagery congruence is the key criterion, results in creating a typology of cross-linguistic equivalents. The typology consists of the following groups of equivalents: phraseological units whose cross-linguistic equivalents are also phraseological units conveying fully or partially congruent imagery or conveying different imagery: phraseological units whose cross-linguistic equivalents are word combinations of non-phraseological character, either literal translations into the target language, or descriptive equivalents; phraseological units whose cross-linguistic equivalents have word equivalents (compounds and single words) of full or partial imagery congruence as well as those devoid of imagery.

The development of information technology has a profound impact on all areas of life without exception. These technologies are tools that enable the user not only to obtain information, select, process and manage it but also pass it on to other people. In the context of the media  society also a preacher of the word of God during Sunday and holiday masses cannot ignore the assistance they offer if he wants to avoid the danger that his efforts will be treated as a kind of an open-air museum. The main thread of the study is therefore an attempt to identify opportunities for the use of  these technologies in the homilist’s skills and tools because they can provide an interesting and profitable alternative to traditional forms of homiletic expertise. Attention is drawn to the fact that in order to use these technologies efficiently and in accordance with the nature of the homily  they should be treated only as a supporting source that provides preaching  material.

This subject was chosen because neuromarketing allows the marketing experts to improve their popularisation options regarding a brand, while having the potential to revolutionize the general understanding of the existent relationships between organisations and consumers. The paper was written to bring to the attention of researchers in this field - and beyond - the opportunities to reduce the gaps between the consumers' subconscious and their behaviour, in order to fulfil their desires. Therefore, it was shown how studying the sensory, cognitive and emotional reactions of consumers to stimuli related to a product or an advertisement allows the researchers to find out why consumers make the decisions they make when choosing a brand or another, without the subjectivity specific to traditional research methods. The paper includes the description of the main techniques used in neuromarketing, aspects regarding the domestic market and Romania's situation in this field, the areas of its use and the limitations imposed by the current economic context. This article may also be the starting point in developing a code of ethics on the use of neuromarketing, as well as the legal factors that can help ease the arising conflicts regarding neuromarketing - between influence and manipulation.

Increased security of photogrammetry technologies (flights), raising the quality and lowering the cost of labor and also on subsequent developments and updates, which are the result, it is always current problems. The possibility of use 3D modeling for spatial analyses from low-height aerial images realized by unmanned, small aerial platforms (UAVs), equipped with small digital cameras seems to be worthy of attention. The intention of the author of this work is the problem of use 3D modeling terrain images defined as low-height, which means images recorded with unmanned platforms (UAVs) with low-height altitude not exceeding 100 meters above the average level of the area.

The present study examines the manner in which Ivan Blatný approaches three interrelated themes — identity, language, and the human body — throughout Pomocná škola Bixley, his last verse collection. I argue that as Blatný grappled with the decline of his mental and physical strength, these themes merged in his writing. Through a series of critical readings I demonstrate the way Blatný treats poetic ability and fractured identity in terms of mastery over broken language and body. The poet splits his lyrical “I” in numerous ways, making his poems more self-aware and self-deprecating than before. There is also a tension between the joy that language brings him and his being powerless to comprehend it. The use of body imagery (arteries, bones, etc.) repeatedly accentuates this correlation, intermingling as it does with reflections on the perplexing nature of writing. By equating the failure to comprehend the human body with the incapacity to explain his own language, Blatný transforms these twin issues into a struggle to understand the person(s) he has become. This expanded thematic unity provides an approach which allows us to understand Pomocná škola Bixley as a cohesive collection, complete with an interconnected system of metaphors and imagery, rather than the disorganized mass it may appear to be at first reading.
CS
Kritickým čtením předvádím Blatného pojetí básnických schopností a roztříštěné identity prizmatem vlády nad rozbitým jazykem a tělem.
