In this article I discuss the need for more systematic integration of approaches dealing with religious beliefs and practices into the discussion about sources and areas of gender social changes that occur in global migration. Firstly, starting from the discussion about negative representations of religiosity in contemporary debates, I consider from theoretical and methodological perspectives why we should move the religious dimension from the margins more to the centre of analysis. Secondly, basing on an exploratory review of empirical research about intersections of religion and gender in the lives of international migrants, I discuss findings that reveal about religion as a potential mediator in the gendered revolution. I answer how they help to understand the complexities and ambivalences of social changes and identify the areas they concern. I argue that the revolutionary potential that arises at the intersection of migration, gender and religion is not limited to changing gender orders in religious organisations. It is religious beliefs themselves that influence migrants’ everyday lives and challenge the existing gendered contract in lay areas, in work relations, civic and political participation.

To obtain a certificate from the PZH (National Institute of Hygiene) allowing to apply a metal can in contact with food - among others - positive results of global migration test are necessary. In the paper the concept of global migration is defined, based on European Union Directives, principles of its testing are presented including description of the filling methods as representative for the metal can.

Zbadano migracją globalną z opakowań żywności do izooktanu i 95% etanolu — alternatywnych płynów modelowych imitujących działanie żywności zawie- rającej tłuszcz. W badaniach uwzględniano czas i temperaturę kontaktu żywności z opakowaniem. Oznaczona migracja globalna z badanych opakowań wykonanych z PP, PE, PA i PET była niska, z wyjątkiem folii z piastyfikowanego polichlorku winylu, z których znacznie przekraczała ona dozwolony limit (10 mg/dm2).

Overall migration from commercial samples of food plastics packaging into 95% ethanol and iso- octane - the alternative fatty food simulants - was determined. Testing conditions - time and temperature of the contact of food packaging material with food simulants reflected real or predicted use of given packaging. The analytical methods according to European Standard EN 1186 were used. Test methods by filling the artiecles, total immersion, forming a pouch or using the cell were used for migration as appropriate to allow contact with liquid food simulant only this surface which will come into the contact with food during normal use of the product. The overall migration from the samples of the tested products into both food simulants (95% ethanol and iso-octane) was well below the limit (10 mg/dm2), except of the migration from plasticized PVC films which markedly exceeded above limit, showing that these films must not be used for packaging of food containing fat. Application of food simulants as a alternative to olive oil markedly shortens analytical procedure and reduces workload, both important in routine testing.

Wykonano oznaczenia migracji globalnej do wodnych płynów modelowych z próbek folii przeznaczonych do produkcji opakowań żywności stosując metodę zgodną z zaleceniami Dyrektyw EWG 82(7)EEC, 85(572)EEC i 93(9)EEC

Samples of polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene foils, softened polyvinyl chloride foils and laminates, in which polyethylene or EVA copolymer or SULRYN ionomer formed the inner layer were subjected to tests for determination of the global migration to aqueous fluids using model methods: chamber test, bag test, immersion test and lining test. The tested materials comprised 37 samples of packaging materials. The tested samples were not exceeding the range of permitted global migration into aqueous model fluids as recommended by the EEC directives. The obtained results fell significantly below the accepted limit of 10 mg/dm2.

Food packaging may be a potential source of food contamination due to chemical constituents migration from packaging materials. To assure the food contact materials safety the relevant legislation is established. For the food contact materials and articles where is no harmonised EU legislation (eg. colorants, silicones, paper and board, rubber) the Council of Europe establishes the Resolution containing the special requirements. According to EU legislation related to materials and articles intended to come into contact with food, in general, food contact articles should not release substances in quantities that may endanger human health or change the organoleptic characteristics. The final product should fulfil the requirements for the overall migration limit (OML) and specific migration limit (SML) of the chemical substances. Testing migration for the compliance with the limits of global migration and specific migration from the final product to the food simulants should be performed according to the relevant EC Directives. The current Polish legislation related to food contact materials and article implementing the provision of the relevant EC Directives was presented.
