The article shows different views on the autonomy of translation in relation to the original text. At first, translation is regarded as a separate entity, a distinct text, functioning in a different cultural sphere (both geographically and linguistically) and often at a different age. Therefore it has a different recipient. Its autonomy is manifested in its multiplicity and recurrence, in the possibility of occurrence of new translations. The stages of creating the original and translation are also different. The autonomy of the translation depends on the attitude of the translator who has at his disposal different methods of work on the original text and different ways of interpreting it although the results of his efforts exist only in relation to the original text.

Selected problems concerning Polish-Spanish contrastive syntax: the relative clauses In the introductory part of this article we present several opinions of the Polish and Spanish linguists referring to the relative clauses. Next, we write about their forms – both in the past as those existing nowadays, and the difference in the number of these forms arising from inclusion or exclusion of relative adverbs among them. Finally, we mention the classification of the clauses, taking into consideration the presence or absence of the antecedent to which the relative refers, as well as the syntactical function displayed by the relative clause or the information which is given by its restrictive or appositive character.

A title constitutes an introductory and identifying element of different types of texts. Many investigators have explored the existing connection between the work and its title, both in literature and other types of texts: informative, academic or cinematic ones. The author of the article attempts to discern some strategies of title translation of the literary works and tries to denominate them. The conclusion is that the translated titles refer much more to the content of their works than the original ones. The reasons for that situation may be different, either to make the reading easier in the target language or to focus on the element of the work distinguished by the translator. That is why the author of the article considers that it is more pertinent to deal with different methods of title translation rather than strategies.
