Purpose: The main objective of the study is to indicate the determinants of taking up and running business by young people. Since the spatial scope of the research covers three countries, the authors aim to answer the question about similarities and differences between these states. In addition, the survey was conducted after the COVID-19 pandemic, hence part of the analysis includes issues related to the assessment of the crisis in terms of the economic activity of the surveyed individuals. Design/methodology/approach: the problem concerns the determinants of young people's entrepreneurial activity. The subject includes also entrepreneurial attitudes of actors under study and their approach to business. The empirical analysis involved students from selected universities in 3 countries: Poland, Romania and North Macedonia. The analysis was conducted using online survey questionnaire. The survey covered a total of 161 respondents. Findings: The students emphasised the role of competition as an element shaping the business environment. This factor influenced the relatively high proportion of those seeing difficulties in opening a new business. They realised that knowledge and education were helpful in achieving success in the market, although financial resources and luck were also important. In the consensus view of respondents, the pandemic increased the risk of operating for entrepreneurs. Research limitations/implications: firstly, the research sample is relatively small (especially for Macedonia) and purposively selected (students), thus the results cannot be representative of the entire population of young people in the selected countries. Secondly, the survey is static and does not indicate trends in the perception of the problem at hand. In the future, it is planned to repeat the analysis on a larger group of respondents in order to eliminate the weaknesses indicated. Originality/value: The article brings elements of originality in the layer concerning the attitudes of young people (students) towards entrepreneurship in a post-pandemic environment. The added value is the comparative analysis of the three countries included in the study.

Purpose: The aim of the article is to analyse the conditions and possibilities of using entrepreneurship education in secondary schools in the context of stimulating the development of entrepreneurial skills and competences among students. What is more, the researchers examined the impact of entrepreneurship education provided at school to create the potential and acquire the skills required to create a new business venture and company management by university students. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve this goal, a quantitative method was used, based on a survey conducted with the participation of 542 students admitted to the first year of studies in the academic year 2021/2022 at the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology. Findings: The results of the conducted research prove that every fourth graduate, regardless of whether they graduated from a Technical College or a General High School, assesses the education in the field of entrepreneurship, its potential to strengthen their predispositions and acquiring the skills required to lead own company, as average. Research limitations/implications: The research included only first-year students of the university, which does not constitute the basis for generalizing the obtained results for students studying in other academic centres. Formulating conclusions should be limited to the test sample only. Practical implications: The results of the study may be of interest to scientists and practitioners, examining the assessment and development of entrepreneurial competences among students of high schools and universities. In addition, this study can be helpful to employers who want to find out more about entrepreneurial attitudes of university graduates. Originality/value: This study may contribute to the debate on the role of education in shaping entrepreneurial attitudes and intentions among secondary school students.

This study aims to assess the impact of perceived opportunities and entrepreneurship as a good career choice on the economic growth of European countries. A quantitative methodology was used. A data panel composed of measures of economic growth and business activity for 21 European countries from 2001 to 2019 and macroeconomic control variables was used. Multiple linear regression was estimated using the Generalised Panel Methods of Moments. High levels of perceived opportunity were found to impact economic growth positively. Entrepreneurship as a good career choice has positive impacts on economic growth. These results indicate that although entrepreneurship as a good career choice and perceived opportunity are antecedents of entrepreneurial activity, they may be considered drivers of economic growth in European countries and, as such, should be stimulated and supported. This article is original because it is a longitudinal study, and there are few studies on this topic.

Niniejsze badanie ma na celu ocenę wpływu postrzeganych możliwości i przedsiębiorczości jako dobrego wyboru kariery na wzrost gospodarczy krajów europejskich. Zastosowano metodologię ilościową. Wykorzystano panel danych złożony z miar wzrostu gospodarczego i aktywności biznesowej dla 21 krajów europejskich w latach 2001-2019 oraz makroekonomicznych zmiennych kontrolnych. Wielokrotna regresja liniowa została oszacowana przy użyciu uogólnionej panelowej metody momentów. Stwierdzono, że wysoki poziom postrzeganych możliwości pozytywnie wpływa na wzrost gospodarczy. Przedsiębiorczość jako dobry wybór kariery ma pozytywny wpływ na wzrost gospodarczy. Wyniki te wskazują, że chociaż przedsiębiorczość jako dobry wybór kariery i postrzegane możliwości są antecedentami działalności przedsiębiorczej, można je uznać za motory wzrostu gospodarczego w krajach europejskich i jako takie powinny być stymulowane i wspierane. Ten artykuł jest oryginalny, ponieważ jest to badanie podłużne i istnieje niewiele badań na ten temat.

Sukcesywnie postępująca cyfryzacja i rozwijające się technologie, a z drugiej strony immanentnie skonsolidowana z nimi globalizacja rynków, od produkcyjnych, usługowych, po konsumpcyjne i finansowe, nie wykluczając w tym także kapitałów osobowych, stawiają przed pretendentami nowych inicjatyw gospodarczych coraz bardziej wysublimowane ekspektatywy. Począwszy od skonkretyzowania modelu biznesowego, po podjęcie decyzji o doborze właściwej formy prawnej dla antycypowanej działalności, obejmują one konieczność odpowiedzi na różnorodne i dynamicznie rozwijające się wymagania formalne, rynkowe, ale także behawioralne, a nawet mentalne. Niejednokrotnie wymagania te przybierają postać imperatywu kategorycznego dla efektywnego, czyli konkurencyjnego i rentownego funkcjonowania na zróżnicowanych rynkach. Prowadzone w ciągu ostatnich dekad badania empiryczne zmieniających się predyspozycji rynków gospodarczych i jego uczestników pozwoliły prof. Teresie Łuczce wyłonić interdyscyplinarny katalog determinant. Zarówno dla pretendenta, jak również czynnego przedsiębiorcy stanowią one sui generis vademecum kształtowania i rozwijania niezbędnych zachowań dla skutecznego działania. W niniejszym artykule, opierając się na metodzie analityczno-deskryptywnej, podjęto zagadnienia taksonomicznej rekapitulacji i systematyzacji trzech najbardziej kluczowych determinant wyłonionych w dorobku naukowym prof. Łuczki. Są to determinanty personalne, finansowe oraz technologiczne.

The successively progressing digitization and development of technologies, as well as the inherently consolidated globalization of markets – from production and services to consumers and financial, including personal, capital – create increasingly sophisticated expectations on the side of the pretenders to new economic initiatives. Starting from specifying the business model, to deciding on the choice of the appropriate legal form for their activity, they must respond to variable and dynamically developing formal, market, behavioural and mental requirements. These requirements often take the form of a categorical imperative for effective, that is, competitive and profitable, functioning in various markets. Purpose: Identifying the role or roles of higher education institutions in shaping students' entrepreneurial attitudes, which is the aim of the article which is increasingly becoming topical of great significance for economic development and innovative solutions in industry. Design/methodology/approach: For the purposes of this research the case study method is based on the selected higher education institutions in Poland and Malta. The method of observation and desk research was also used. Findings: The results of analyses and studies have confirmed the great importance and possibilities of higher education institutions in shaping entrepreneurial competences of students at different levels of education. They also highlighted the need to place greater emphasis on creating more comprehensive support programs, making wider use of the creation and development of an ecosystem for the development of academic entrepreneurship. Research limitations/implications: Within the framework of the article, research was conducted on selected examples of higher education institutions in Poland and Malta. The presented results may be of an initial contribution towards future research in different economic and research contexts. Practical implications: Considerations presented in this article, results of analyses and formulated recommendations can be a valuable source of information especially for higher education institutions and other decision makers dealing with the issue of creating new companies, start-ups established especially on the basis of innovative solutions. Originality/value: The article emphasized the importance of universities to offer different scenarios as possible for the expansion and development of entrepreneurship. This indicated the role of institutions as crucial in formulating recommendations in the context of shaping entrepreneurial attitudes of students, stressing on the need to develop an entrepreneurship mindset and ecosystem with the co operation of government and private institutions.

The article is intended to analyse literature resources and research output related to factors which shape entrepreneurial attitudes among students. The sample group was composed of students of the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa. The research method was a diagnostic survey. Some significant factors related to soft, hard and business skills were selected based on literature research and afterwards were employed in the survey. The obtained results were confronted with the international authors’ recommendations. A significant result of the studies was confirmation of assumptions that shaping of entrepreneurial spirit is an important element in academic education. For this purpose, there is a need to extend the scenarios of classes with activating methods which contribute to the development of competences in the field of entrepreneurship.

The basic aim of this paper is the comparative analysis, both theoretical and empirical, of selected aspects of entrepreneurship in Poland and Austria. The significance of the selected topic, most of all, results from the role and impact entrepreneurial activities have on the welfare of societies, both economically and socially. Keeping in mind the diversity and complexity of the phenomenon of entrepreneurship, one must in particular consider its integral relationship with economic activity and development, both of the individual and of the society at large. In economic terms, entrepreneurship is usually interpreted as the ability to creatively and innovatively solve business problems, combined with the ability to use opportunities arising from economic activity. Our empirical studies on the analysis and assessment of entrepreneurial attitudes were conducted on the basis of data published by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development within the framework of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study. Selected aspects of entrepreneurship in international terms were subjected to analysis. Particular emphasis was placed on assessing Poland’s situation compared to that of other countries. Special attention was drawn to institutions supporting entrepreneurship in both countries and an attempt was made to specify the directions of their future actions.

Problematyka postaw przedsiębiorczych stanowi jeden z aktualnych obszarów badań dotyczących szeroko rozumianej przedsiębiorczości. W artykule przedstawiono postawy przedsiębiorcze kobiet w zakresie ich samooceny, barier i czynników motywujących do otwierania własnej działalności gospodarczej. Przedstawiono wyniki badań ankietowych, realizowanych w grupie 710 młodych kobiet, kształcących się w ostatnich klasach szkół ponadgimnazjalnych oraz studentek.

The article presents the entrepreneurial attitudes of women regarding their self-esteem, barriers and motivating factors to starting their own business. The article presents the results of research conducted on a group of 710 women in their last years of high school and university students.
