Square Root Raised Cosine Fractionally Delaying Nyquist Filter : Design and Performance Evaluation

In this paper we propose a discrete-time FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filter which is meant to be applied as a square root Nyquist filter and fractional delay filter simultaneously. The filter enables to substitute for a cascade of square root raised cosine (SRRC) Nyquist filter and fractional delay filter in one device/algorithm. The aim is to compensate for transmission delay in digital communication system. Performance of the filter in the role of a matched filter is evaluated using a newly defined energetic ISI (Intersymbol Interference) measure and ability of the filter to completely eliminate the ISI involved by fractional delay of symbol shaping filter in transmitter or by channel delay. Considerations and results of the contribution are documented by suitable eye-diagrams and the SRRC filter responses.

The Geological Quarterly has come a long way since the first is sue was published in 1957 under the Polish title Kwartalnik Geologiczny. From a local bulletin publishing studies of the Pol ish Geological Institute it has became an international journal, in dexed since 2003 by the Institute for Scientific Informa tion. The impact factor for 2006 was 0.846, a considerable increase (IF2005 - 0.325) representing upgrading in the "Geology" category to 22nd position among 36 journals ranked. Despite the growing significance of regional geoscientific journals, the Geological Quarterly will face new challenges in coming years due to competition from other periodicals, including those from Central and Eastern Europe. The global tendency of limiting the paper is sues of journals in favour of electronic versions will enforce changes inediting and distribution. Better rankings of the journal lead to a growing submission rate, associated with increased risk of dealing with manuscripts including duplicated material.

Przedstawiono przesłanki, równania i metody adaptacyjnego odtwarzania sygnałów binarnych zniekształconych w kanałach o nieznanej transmitancji i nieliniowej charakterystyce fazowej. Zaproponowano analogiczne podejście do sygnałów binarnych rozproszonych, występujących w obecności interferencji szumopodobnej, emitowanej z innego kierunku niż sygnał użyteczny. Rolę funkcji kryterialnych spełniają, odpowiednio moment względny czwartego rzędu oraz błąd średniokwadraturowy estymacji sygnału. Funkcje te zostały wplecione w odpowiednie algorytmy - gradientowy SG i stochastyczny LS-L. Uzyskane wyniki symulacji wskazują na duże możliwości metody.

The assumptions, equations and methods for recovering the binary signals distorted by channels of unknown impulse response have been presented. A relative moment of the 4-th degree was used as a criterion function and the lattice filter as an adapter. The similar methods was proposed for recovering the binary spread-spectrum signals corrupted by a heavy noise-like interference, emitted from other direction than useful signal. The results of simulation - 100% of ISI elimination and up to 1/20 signal-to-interference ratio - show that the method presents a high potential and can be useful in many areas of telecomunication.
