Purpose: Improvement measures are taken unceasingly in organizations in order to optimize the obtained results in each sphere of a company’s functioning. This article presents the results of an improvement process conducted for a welding operation in the given production process. Design/methodology/approach: Taking advantage of the Kaizen approach, the article describes the results of this process and its visualization, which has been conducted with the help of a Spaghetti Chart tool. Findings: Initially, it has demonstrated that the analysis of real pathways of product value creation at the given worksite through application of the mapped-out changes brings about measurable effects. The applied worksite reorganization allowed for a limitation of an employee’s excessive movements at the worksite. In order to conduct a benchmark – both states “before” and “after” the introduction of improvement changes have been juxtaposed. Research limitations/implications: The presented analysis has a temporally and spatially limited dimension - this simultaneously being an impulse to extend research in the future. While conducting an analysis of an operator’s work, the problem must be dealt with in a broad perspective - we conduced type case study, so this is the limitation. Practical implications: The conducted analysis has taken place in real organizational conditions, using the example of a functioning worksite. Working with the “continuous improvement” approach, the instruments for development have been initiated in all spheres and levels of the given organization. Line employees have been motivated by the management to carry out single modernizations at the given worksite, which has influenced their own development. This in turn has stimulated their conscious need for active participation in the process of change. Originality/value: The conducted analysis has taken place in real organizational conditions, using the example of a functioning worksite.

W artykule zastosowano metodę Data Envelopment Analysis do badania efektywności względnej polskich banków komercyjnych. Wykorzystano podstawowy model CCR. Analiza została przeprowadzona w ujęciu przestrzenno-czasowym (24 banki w latach 2001-2004). Porównano wyniki analizy DEA przeprowadzonej sekwencyjnie (dla każdego roku osobno) z wynikami analizy integralnej, obejmującej w jednym badaniu wszystkie obiekty we wszystkich latach. Szczególny nacisk położono na badanie stabilności rankingu banków w zależności od zastosowanego podejścia.

The author makes an attempt to assess the relative efficiency of Polish commercial banks using non-paramteric Data Envelopment Analysis. In the empirical research, use has been made of panel data – 24 commercial banks in 4 years (2001–2004). The results of sequential DEA method (which examines 24 banks individually in each year) are compared to the results of integral DEA method (which examines 24 banks in four years at the same time – one bank appears in such analysis four times, i.e. there is 24 × 4 = 96 objects under examination). Owing to this approach it is easier to reveal which unit is truly efficient and which one is only accidentally recognized as efficient. The author comes to the conclusion that the integral DEA method is more reliable, because the results are more stable and fewer units are recognized (incorrectly) as efficient.

W artykule przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące pojęcia względnej efektywności technicznej ze szczególnym naciskiem na metodę Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Omówiono ideę metody na prostym przykładzie. Następnie szczegółowo zanalizowano podstawowy model CCR oraz dokonano krótkiego przeglądu modyfikacji i rozszerzeń modelu podstawowego.

In the article, the author presents Data Envelopment Analysis, which is a method for measuring relative technical efficiency. The idea of DEA method is illustrated by a simple example, where objects characterized by one input and one output only are considered. Next, a the basic DEA model (CCR model) is described and conditions are given, based on which a unit under examination can be considered efficient. The author also presents a short review of some basic CCR model modifications, which, e.g., allow the existence of variable returns to scale (in CCR model, it is assumed that returns to scale are constant), and simultaneous input and output model orientation – basic CCR model is input-oriented or outputoriented. The modifications may also consist in introducing nondiscretionary variables into DEA efficiency analysis or additional constraints to the basic CCR model

The complex technology for precious metals recovery from local raw materials (by-products) has been presented. Incorporation of a sorption stage into the general technological flowsheet made it possible to process materials with diversified contents of precious metals at the same temperature, which has been described in the paper.

On the basis of experiments drying curves u=f(x) were obtained as well as drying rate curves du/dr=f(u) for celery pieces sizes 10 and 14 mm and slices 5 mm thick. The drying curves u=f(r) are described with detailed matematical equations.

Wskutek ulewnych deszczów, które spowodowały lipcową powódź w 1997 r., na NE stoku Palenicy nad Szczawnicą, powstało osuwisko, które zniszczyło znaczny fragment trasy narciarskiej i zagroziło podstawie słupa wyciągu krzesełkowego na Palenicę. Objęło ono swym zasięgiem stosunkowo wąską wychodnię łupków formacji łupków z Malinowej należących tu do jednostki Grajcarka. Osuwisko o typie subsekwentnym, powstawało w kilku etapach i charakteryzowało się detruzywnym rozwojem. Płytki zsuw o długości 320 m i charakterze rynnowym, objął zasięgiem warstwę zwietrzeliny, lokalnie sięgnął podłoża, w dolnych zaś partiach, masy koluwialne stosunkowo niewielkiej miąższości, nasunęły się na powierzchnię trasy zjazdowej. Powyżej osuwiska powstały liczne spękania. Główną przyczyną powstania i rozwoju formy było gwałtowne przeciążenie wodą opadową i częściowe upłynnienie mas zwietrzlinowych, rozwojowi zaś ruchów sprzyjały zarówno utwory podłoża podatne na osuwanie, jak również antropogeniczne wylesienie wychodni łupków, w trakcie budowy trasy.
