The process of appropriation is understood as individual or grouping creations, choice, possession, modifications, enhancement of, care for and intentional use of a space to make it one’s own. From an actor perspective, youth subculture members, as any differently groups can compete for space.

Introduction. By linking human morality with cognitive development, Profesor Jigoro Kano was convinced that discovering knowledge and understanding it would shape the meaning of good and evil among young judokas, as well as their ability to distinguish what is good and what is bad [Kano 2005, Mifune 2004]. Problem and aim. The aim of the undertaken research was to assess the assimilation by students at the Kodokan Judo School of values, including: responsibility, righteousness, patience, lowliness, courage, and kindness, and also to check to what extent the application of the Kogi and Mondo methods increase the sensitivity of judo players to these values during training. The main problem of the research was the question: What is the evaluation of adopted and externalised values of judo competitors in primary school? Methods of research. I. Observation categorized. Six values of the judo school were subjected to research, four subcategories of which were selected and then operationalized. II. Survey using interviews. Respondents were asked five questions that concerned ways of understanding judo, through the prism of values that are internalised in them during their training. Conclusion: The behavior of the tested students during Randori trainings should be assessed highly. The application of the Mondo and Kogi methods with reference to the values characterising the students of the Kodokan Judo School allows young practitioners of this martial art to understand the full concept of education proposed by Professor Jigoro Kano.

The martial art of judo as educational contents for children who living in an open society

The purpose of this article is to examine the role of judo as a highly valuable educational tool for children growing up in an open society. Literature analysis in the field of general pedagogy combined with expertise in the field of martial arts has shown possible benefits of practicing martial art of judo, based on a foundation of traditional Budo. The second part of this article presents results of surveys, based on the main research problem: What educational value does practicing martial arts of judo have on primary school students in Opole? In order to solve the main problem an interview questionnaire consisting of 14 questions was developed to answer four specific and detailed problems. Analysis of the literature in the field of martial arts judo, and the obtained statements of young respondents, which include motives of practicing judo, the most attractive part of the training in judo; described feelings towards the opponent during a fight described feelings towards the opponent during a fight, and the belief of these young students about the possibility of practicing judo in primary schools support the basis of the premises that martial arts of judo indeed has a high educational value and can help shape a progressive open society which is based on the foundation of universal values

Włączenie w dyskurs społeczny pedagogicznej idei sztuk walki, podyktowany jest potrzebą ponownego zastanowienia się nad wychowaniem do życia w społeczeństwie otwartym, które od ponad dwudziestu lat próbujemy w polskiej rzeczywistości kształtować. Mając na uwadze budowę społeczeństwa otwartego, przysposobienie do życia powinno być ukierunkowane na życie w społeczeństwie, w którym każdy podmiot będzie potrafił odnaleźć swoje miejsce i rolę wśród tych, którzy podążają w tę samą stronę; ale również będzie potrafił pokonywać opory tych, którzy myślą i działają inaczej, nie niszcząc ich zarazem. Ważne staje się zatem odwoływanie się do tych sztuk walki, które wykorzystując tradycję Budo, uczą jak walczyć, by nasze zmagania z drugim podmiotem przynosiły obopólne korzyści. Celem tego artykułu jest ukazanie sztuki walki judo jako wysoce wartościowej propozycji edukacyjnej dla dzieci wychowujących się w realiach społeczeństwa otwartego. Dokonując analizy literatury w zakresie pedagogiki ogólnej, oraz specjalistycznej w zakresie sztuk walki, ukazano możliwe korzyści wynikające z uprawiania sztuki walki judo opartej na fundamencie tradycji Budo. W drugiej części artykułu przedstawiono wyniki badań sondażowych, których głównym problemem badawczym określono pytanie o to: Jaką wartość edukacyjną, stanowi dla uczniów opolskich szkół podstawowych fakt uprawiania sztuki walki judo? W celu rozwiązania problemu głównego opracowano cztery problemy szczegółowe, na które odpowiedzi poszukiwano stosując autorski kwestionariusz wywiadu składający się z 14 pytań. Analiza literatury w zakresie sztuki walki judo, oraz uzyskane wypowiedzi młodych respondentów obejmujące: motywy podjęcia się uprawiania judo; najbardziej atrakcyjną część treningu judo; opisywane odczucia wobec swojego rywala w trakcie walki; a także przekonanie o możliwości uprawiania judo przez innych dają przesłanki do tego by uważać, iż sztuka walki judo istotnie ma wysokie walory edukacyjne i może kształtować społeczeństwo otwarte, oparte na fundamencie wartości uniwersalnych.

In the paper a comparatistic study conducted on the 1st grade students of sociology and pedagogy is discussed. The study was focused on the language skills of students. The most important skills tested were the abilities to decode academic content. The study show that the student have very poor language skills of decoding the academic content on every level of its complexity. They have also noticable problems with the definition of basic academic terms. The significance of gained results are high because of the innovational topic and character of the study, which was the first such study conducted on students of a Polish university. Results are also valuable for academic teachers who are interested in such problems as efefctive communication with students.
