The article Bajki Biernata z Lublina i Ignacego Krasickiego – rzecz o przeciwległych biegunach bajkopisarstwa [The Fables by Biernat of Lublin and Ignacy Krasicki – The Issue Relating to the Opposite Ends of Fable Writing] discusses the problem of the Polish society in the 16th and 18th centuriespresented in the fables by the aforementioned.Basing on them, one can note that the Polish class society in the 16th century was more mobile. Then, it was possible to promote to a higher position owing to university education or other public services. Biernat’s fables put their trust in building a more egalitarian society, although the author is well aware of the gross social inequalities of the feudal system, which could be changed through revolution. The 18th century brings regression of ethics in public life, where corruption and lawlessness are present, and the serfs suffer considerable feudal oppression. The fables by Ignacy Krasicki reveal the mechanisms of the negative phenomena and social processes, having no illusions about fighting the existing evil. The author paints the Enlightenment period black, as traditional morality gave in to omnipresent selfishness.

W artykule Jan Marx i Tadeusz Różewicz. Dwaj bohaterowie książki „Pomiędzy wieżą Babel a wieżą z kości słoniowej. O poezji Tadeusza Różewicza” porównane zostają dwie postawy wobec życia, autora wymienionej książki i jej protagonisty. Obaj są świeckimi humanistami, którzy chcą uczynić życie racjonalnym i moralnym. Marx jednakże akceptuje samobójstwo jako remedium na zło, gdy Różewicz afirmuje życie.

In the paper Jan Marx i Tadeusz Różewicz. Dwaj bohaterowie książki „Pomiędzy wieżą Babel a wieżą z kości słoniowej. O poezji Tadeusza Różewicza” (Jan Marx and Tadeusz Różewicz. Two heroes of the book „Between the Tower of Babel and the Tower of Ivory. On the poetry of Tadeusz Różewicz”) two attitudes towards life, that of the author of the book in question and that of the protagonist, were compared. They are both secular humanists who want to make human life rational and moral. Marx, however, accepts suicide as a remedy for evil, while Różewicz affirms life.

The article presents Ignacy Krasicki’s religiousness in the light of anthropology, which assumes that the man can, at the same time, show different attitudes concerning his outlook, resulting from being affected by simultaneous contradictory cultural paradigms. The author reveals the symptoms of secular thinking on the foundations of human morality in literary texts by the Bishop of Warmia, accompanied by religious traditionalism in the same or different literary works. The goal of the article is to provoke discussion on the personality of people in the Age of Enlightenment, which may not be explicit, but can be composed of heterogenous cultural elements.

The article concentrates on the lofty representation of the protagonist of the collection of lyrical works. "Pieśni o księciu Józefie" make a reference, in their historical and axiological aspects, to the biography by Szymon Askenazy, "Książę Józef Poniatowski 1763-1813" [Prince Józef Poniatowski 1763-1813]. That biography presents the central figure as an exemplary patriot and citizen, who does not hesitate to give his life for the fatherland. The poet, however, goes much further than Askenazy in elevating his hero, as he sacralises the figure of prince Poniatowski by making him the main martyr of the national cause, who pleads for Poland with God.

The article aims to investigate the issues related to alienation, estrangement and otherness of various social actors appearing in Stanislavian literature, by reference to various aspects of the national life. The discussion mainly focuses on the prototypical characters and works which illustrate the major ideological dilemmas common during the Polish Enlightenment, and associated with the confrontation of Sarmatism with Western European civilisation. The article covers both conservative and more progressive cultural tendencies determined by the moral and political attitudes of more or less prominent social types and individuals characteristic of Stanislavian literature.

The article Political games with literary texts by Roman Bratny in Polish social and cultural magazines of the 1980s (Gry polityczne z tekstami literackimi Romana Bratnego w polskich czasopismach społeczno-kulturalnych z lat osiemdziesiątych XX wieku) is of a literature-specialist and political science character. It also contains the opinion on using literary works by Bratny in the ideological battle conducted by Polish Marxists and related groups against political opposition in the social and cultural weeklies of the 1980s. The battle had various stages. It began with a view to discrediting dissidents and patriotic activists totally, but it finished with conciliatory steps towards them and a proposal of political compromise, beneficial for Marxists though. Reviews of the texts by Bratny, to be found in “government” press, show the process of moderating the government’s attitude to democratic opposition as well as their desire to establish a constructive dialogue in the late stage of the Polish People’s Republic.
