This paper is focused on the value of work in human life and its social dimension in the social thought of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski. The discussion oscillates around three main ideas emerging from Wyszynski’s vision of work, namely: the value of what underlies being a man of work, the work itself and social importance of human rights arising from the work.

The work is a very important value in the life of every human being. At each stage of ontogeny education both objective and effect should be present. Through the work a man develops as a human person, therefore building own axiological space. The subject of theoretical analysis is axiological capturing of work with special attention to its social value. The catalogue of values is presented, which in relation with work constitutes to its social dimension.

We utilized a non-steady state method (kJ per set, not kJ min–1) to estimate the total energy costs (aerobic and anaerobic, exercise and recovery) of five different resistance exercises: incline bench press, squat, deadlift, shoulder shrug and calf raise. Using a Smith machine, work was precisely measured as the product of the vertical distance the lifting bar traveled and the amount of weight lifted. The average of two lifts performed on separate days was completed by 16 women (165 cm; 61.1 kg; 21.8 years) and 22 men (180.5 cm; 83 kg; 23.7 years). Overall 40 data points (the averages of 80 lifts) were plotted and correlations completed within each exercise for work and total energy costs: deadlift r = 0.997, squat r = 0.977, incline press r = 0.947, shoulder shrug r = 0.921 and calf raise r = 0.941 (p < 0.05). The amount of oxygen consumed during exercise for each lift represented the lowest energy cost contribution (18%), followed by anaerobic (31%) and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC, 51%) (p < 0.05). The identification of work (J) along with an estimate of the total energy costs (kJ) revealed remarkably consistent relationships within any given resistance exercise, leading to a predictable increase in the cost of lifting for each exercise. However, due to the muscle/joint and movement characteristics of each exercise, the work to cost relationship differed for all lifts.

Professional work is often connected with dangers for human life and health. Employees are exposed for misadventures and professional illnesses. In some professions this risk can be very high. On the other hand work is very important in human life. It ensures integral human development. Hence, man can do his job although some risk can be connected with it. Prerequisite for this kind of activity is using all available means for health and safety. In such situa-tion possible misadventure is only the effect of coincidence, which cannot be predicted. Responsibility for health and safety at work is common duty of em-ployees, employers and state authorities. Employees are mainly responsible for their mental and physical condition, employers for worksite and authorities for reasonable labour legislation.

Human work is a key value, which the competent actualization contributes to building a positive life. It was assumed that the value of work cannot be understood without exploring human values. The man can be understood only through the prism of his work. Making attempts to classify the value of work in the axiological way, we accept that this value is created on the foundation of autotelic: Goodness, Truth and Beauty. The work itself is the heterolitic value constituting the grounds for the formation of other values.

At the present stage, the educational institutions are faced with the task of training a broad-based specialist who strives purposefully to independently deepen and expand his knowledge. In this regard, it becomes an actual problem - the formation of readiness of students for self-education. The importance of the problem is determined by the orientation of the education system to create the conditions for maximizing the opportunities of each individual, for his professional self-development, having his own unique style of activity, developed legal self-consciousness, spiritual and creative potential, the focus on constant self-development through self-education.

There is a significant shift of approach to the management of organizations and workers in recent decades. This shift in management philosophy is characterized by converting from traditional, conventional (rather bureaucratic) management models to rather humanistic/existential oriented models. This transition comes partly from the understanding that human resources are the most promising and effective way for organization development, partly from a shift in the understanding of the role of organizations in society. The key point of these approaches has become a "meaning" or "meaningfulness" in relation to the work and organization. The importance of work meaningfulness is not only in its potential to increase the competitiveness of organizations, but especially in its major (mostly positive) impacts on the employee himself and his work (and by that the organization and its performance). Work meaningfulness is strongly connected to the work engagement, which represents the active personal participation in the work process, manifested by vigor, active cooperation, willingness to contribute to the company's success and dedication to work. Work engagement seems to be next important factor affecting work attitudes and achievements of employees. The paper gives an overview of various approaches to work meaningfulness and work engagement, on the basis of which authors propose new model of work meaningfulness with overlap to work engagement. The work meaningfulness is not seen as one-dimensional variable, but consists of complex of interacting factors and processes that define an individual perceived meaning and importance of the work. Meaningful work is influenced by three areas. The first is the organizational culture. This is defined as a specific pattern of values, norms, beliefs, attitudes and assumptions that are often not clearly expressed, but affect the way individuals behave in an organization and how things are done. The second area is the work design (and broadly the design of organization). It contains several variables, such as workload, work extent (e.g. number of various activities), the depth of work (the amount of the reasoning behind the necessary processes and results of work), relationships with others, work flexibility, job sharing etc. The last area represents the individual/employee himself, e.g. his personality, intelligence (including emotional), optimism, sense of mastery, self-efficacy, attitudes etc.

The following article analyses the position work holds on the hierarchy of values of contemporary man on the example of a chosen social group – students. The survey was carried out in the summer 2015 on a group of over 500 students of The State School of Higher Professional Education in Płock. The resultsindicated that although work does not rank highest in their hierarchy of values it still occupies a high, 4thposition. The factors determining the answers were: sex; place of living and the field of study.

The phenomenon of burnout is linked to a close relationship with another human being. According to classical views, burnout is described from the perspective of professions involving “service”. The traditional take on the phenomenon raises a question of whether in today’s multidimensional dynamic professional world the phenomenon of burnout can affect other professions? This study is an attempt to verify the above issue. The problem in question has been investigated in reference to D. Predigerʼs concept. The study involved different career groups, representatives of the four spheres of activity Data–Ideas, People–Things.

The author notes, that one of the structural components of future professionals’ in physical rehabilitation readiness to athletes’ health recreation is motivational component, which constitutes the basis for the realization of its other structural components. The aim of the article is to characterize motivational component in the structure of future professionals’ in physical rehabilitation readiness to athletes’ health recreation. In order to characterize motivational component in the structure of future professionals’ in physical rehabilitation readiness to athletes’ health recreation, the author analyzes the essence of such notions as “a motive”, “motivation”, “sports motivation” etc. In the development of motives in sports activity, taking into account the age of athletes and stages of sports training, the following tendencies may be distinguished: differentiation of motivational structure content; stabilization of motivational structure; intensification of interrelation between practice and competition motivation; specialization of motivational structure, reduction of its individual peculiarity; amplification of the significance of effective motives; gradual shift of the dominant role from the need of self assertion and the need to increase abilities to the need in achieving the best sports result; amplification of social orientation of motives related to sports activity. It has been revealed, that motivational component of the future professionals’ in physical rehabilitation readiness to athletes’ health recreation comprises realization of the significance of athletes rehabilitation as socially-significant activity; positive motivation, realization of professional goals and value-orientations as to the implementation of rehabilitation activity for athletes’ health recreation; the will to master theory and practice of athletes’ rehabilitation using up-to-date methods of health recreation. The author considers the definition of criteria, indices and levels of future professionals’ readiness to athletes’ health recreation as perspective areas for further researches.

The purpose of this study was to examine how Slovak athletes experience dual career (the combination of an athletic career with education and/or work). The study strived to gain an understanding of the athletes’ attitudes towards education as well as perceived difficulties and supporting elements in pursuing dual career. Five athletes were interviewed once for approx. 105 min. The interviews and data analysis were based on Intepretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and the interviews were focused on their experience in combining an athletic career with education or work. The athletes experienced dual career as manageable as long as they were assisted by at least simple supportive structures and provided flexible arrangements. Peers had played an important role in athletes’ decision-making concerning dual career and in providing social support when facing challenges within dual career. The teachers’ prejudice against the athletes based on their athletic role and the lack of dual career structures appeared to be significant deficiencies in dual career support. Finally, the analysis revealed the negative perception of athletes and sport science students by educational representatives. This perception may be a hurdle to be overcome in future dual career development.

Introduction. The awareness of benefits arising from the use of the latest results of scientific research (EBNP – Evidence-Based Nursing Practice) among departmental and charge nurses is a necessary condition to ensure effective and safe health services and nursing care meeting the highest standards of patient care. Aim. The comparison of knowledge of and attitudes towards EBNP among nurses depending on their position. Material and methods. Twenty one departmental nurses (PO) (mean age 50.38 years, min. 37, max. 62, SD=7.35) and 20 Bachelor's degree students of a bridge programme (SSP) (mean age 43 years, min. 34, max. 55, SD=6.37). Qualitative study and analysis of the results, structured interview, extended focus. Results. PO and SSP were not able to define the acronyms EBM and EBP correctly and did not have detailed knowledge of the criteria for assessment of reliability of scientific literature. A majority of DN was familiar with the available journals for nurses and was aware of benefits resulting from using EBNP. The use of EBNP in everyday clinical practice in SSP group was limited by a lack of time, insufficient knowledge of English and access to the Internet, as well as working at the position that makes taking decisions on developing procedures and standards for nursing care impossible. Conclusions. 1. The level of knowledge about EBNP in both groups was inadequate and needs urgent supplementation of knowledge and skills of nurses with reference to this subject area. 2. The attitudes of nurses towards EBNP were different depending on their work position. Departmental nurses were aware of benefits resulting from using the most recent study results in everyday clinical practice and being up-to-date with medical knowledge. 3. The boundaries limiting the use of EBNP in everyday clinical practice by the study participants were objective and they require system changes with reference to the organization of work and the system of continuing education.
