The European Union (EU) signed Association Agreements on 27 June 2014 with Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine. The Association Agreement (AA) is the EU’s main instrument to bring the countries in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) closer to EU standards and norms. For the citizens of the EaP countries to benefit from these agreements, a more in-depth knowledge of the EU and the EU Member States is required to be reflected in a comparative approach to European Union studies. We examine these implications on the need to expand and adapt, the content and approach to research and teaching European Union studies, with the transdisciplinary approach becoming increasingly dominant, becoming a modern tool for research in social sciences. This contribution aims to offer insight into the implementation of transdisciplinarity in the methodology of education and research as it is determined by current increasing global challenges. This approach should serve as a means of integrating a number of main goals as part of learning, teaching and research processes: strengthening employability of young people and preparing them for citizenship. We discuss the need for modernizing European studies in the EU Member States that could serve as an example for the EU Eastern Partnership countries. We conclude that the theoretical approach to European and related studies of other disciplines and their practical implications should always be transdisciplinary in nature and benefit from direct in-situ exposure and should be fully integrated in university curricula

In future, changes in science and society will increasingly demand interdisciplinarily prepared professionals and researchers. Inter/transdisciplinarity has been worked on theoretically and scientifically examined. This review study shows how both approaches are explained, how they are put into practice in doctoral studies, the results of the interdisciplinary approaches applied, but also their limitations and barriers.

The author continues considerations aimed at justifying the establishment of navigation as a scientific discipline, which began in his article included in the collective work titled Admiralski farwater (Walczak, 2015b) (Admiral’s Fairway), and presents the subject and scope of navigation and sets forth other arguments supporting the idea. The author provides further arguments for the draft classification in which navigation would be an independent discipline of technical sciences, indicating the transdisciplinary nature of navigation within a framework of strict relationships with other domains of science in various fields of knowledge.

Transdisciplinarity has shaped the development of both conservation science and conservation-restoration. The history of conservation science demands the commitment of all involved specialists to follow a common vision in the field. The present article highlights some key lessons to assist in closing the gap between the promotion of high-level research projects and the development and assessment of proficient professional practice in conservation science and conservation-restoration. The necessary framework conditions should also be brought to the attention of responsible politicians. Reflecting on conservation theory and practice “at the turn of the millennium” I propose to take a closer look at interdisciplinary work devoted to maintenance of Cultural Heritage since the beginning of the 20th century.

In this article, I use Mieke Bal’ concept of wandering notions to analyse the conceptual apparatus that Zygmunt Bauman used in his works. In the first part of the text, I describe the most important features of his works which have connection with the practice of borrowing for the needs of the sociological discourse of the terms coming from other contexts: transdisciplinarity, connections with literature and art, engaged character. Then, I present the examples of the concepts of illustrative, propagation and foundation character which appear in his analyses. In the conclusion, I highlight the significance of categories redefined by him for social sciences and humanities development.

The widely accepted definition which relates a career to an individual’s experience acquired during work, places it in the social space and in a specific time. The contextual and individual perspective provides an insight into the interrelationships between individual agency and the limiting or stimulating aspects of the social context. In career studies, it is emphasized that the concept of a career should be related to the category of work, because career is one of the key concepts used in Western societies of the twentieth century to describe the history of work understood as employment, despite the fact that new career theories go beyond this area of reference. The article discusses the development of career studies that reflect the transformation of the work environment. Attention is paid to the dynamic transformations in this environment are a background to changing career patterns and the relevant studies. The genealogical roots of contemporary career theories are shown, with special emphasis ontheir transdisciplinary nature. The article moreover focuses on problem areas inspired by the 1970s, which proved catalytic for modern career studies. The article concludes with reflections on the extent to which changes occurring in the area of work, and in particular experiencing discontinuities, pose a challenge to the fundamental principles and standards on which the theories, research and practices in the field of careers are based.

The article analyses the agency of transgression and transcendence at the domain level. It characterizes the specificity of this process and points to factors that influence its intensification (especially the development of digital technologies). The text presents the effects of this process – the impact on the way cultural texts and their structures exist. The article examines the rhetorical dimension of a trans-disciplinary nature, the effect of which is the creation of trans-disciplinary texts. It proves the thesis that in the interaction between disciplines a structural explosion takes place, which leads to the creation of new textual figures and structures and the formation of new types of texts. These issues are illustrated using specific examples of trans-disciplinary texts.

In the introduction we explain why the relation between the Object and the Subject is a crucial problem of philosophy. The key point in understanding the Object-Subject relation is the vision on Reality that humans shared in different periods of the historical time. We next describe some historical aspects concerning the transdisciplinary concept of “level of Reality”, namely in relation with the work of John of the Ladder (c. 525-606), Nicolai Hartmann (1882-1950) and especially Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976). We finally analyze a unified theory of levels of Reality - the transdisciplinary approach, with its three axioms: levels of Reality, logic of included middle and complexity. We describe an important consequence of the transdisciplinary approach: the existence of a zone of non-resistance, which plays the role of a third between the Subject and the Object. This Hidden Third is an interaction term which allows the unification of the transdisciplinary Subject and the transdisciplinary Object while preserving their difference.

The emergence of globalization processes and transnational market integration has become a more and more challenging issue for scientific research in many fields, also and in particular within management science. Against this background the paper presents conceptualizations of globalizing networks based on theories and approaches such Global Commodity Chains, Global Value Chains and Global Production Networks. In particular, the paper aims to conceptualize and discuss globalizing networks with a specific focus on foreign direct investments (FDI) and special economic zones (SEZs). The article is based on heuristic approach and in-depth literature study. The text has been prepared based on heuristic approach and literature studies and it can make a small contribution to the conceptualization within in management science theory.

In Part I of our joint paper [WuB13], we outlined our respective theories, The Basic Theory of the Philosophy of Information (BTPI) and Logic in Reality (LIR) and showed their synergy for the understanding of complex informational processes. In this part, we develop Wu’s fundamental philosophical insight of the origin of the values of information in the interactions of complex information processing. A key concept in our work is that of a logical isomorphism between human individual and social value and the natural laws of the physical world. On the basis of Wu’s concept of Informational Thinking, we propose an Informational Stance, a philosophical stance that is most appropriate for, and not separated nor isolated from, the emerging unified theory of information. We propose our metaphilosophy and metalogic of information as further support for the ethical development of the Information Society.

EN
An analysis of trends is a specific research approach concentrated on noticeable changes. As an orientation of research, the analysis is determined by a future, possible course of events and their meaning. An analysis of trends combines two perspectives of interpretations of changes. The first perspective is cognitive, focused on an analysis of facts in order to use them in process understanding and used to create future scenarios. The other perspective is axiological, used in valuation of processes and for sensemaking. Both of these perspectives are complementary with a result in critical understanding of changes and, simultaneously, an attempt to evaluate their meaning and determine possible outcomes. Thus, their impact on human being, culture, and nature, regardless of historical patterns and empirical knowledge is the most important goal of research. An analysis of trends combines an inter- and transdisciplinary approach; it is a hermeneutics of the future and a way of prospective thinking.

The paper argues that the postulate of transdisciplinarity, put forward by today’s TS scholars, is justified by the convergence of basic principles and assumptions which underlie Cognitive Linguistics, Critical Discourse Analysis and Translation Studies. The “cultural turn” in TS occurred at the same time as the “cognitive turn” in linguistics; both make it possible for CL and TS to cross the boundary and enter the area traditionally occupied by CAD. Overcoming the feeling of mutual reluctance or lack of interest in the research  carried out within neighbouring disciplines would make it possible to broaden the plane shared by the scholars. As an illustration, a case study is discussed, providing a text whose linguistic shape in translation is influenced by a broad social and cultural context.

Tezę ilustruje studium przypadku: przykład tłumaczenia tekstu, o którego językowym kształcie decyduje szeroki kontekst społeczny i kulturowy.

To better understand what information is and to explain information-related issues has become an essential philosophical task. General concepts from science, ethics and sociology are insufficient. As noted by Floridi, a new philosophy, a Philosophy of Information (PI), is needed. In the 80’s, Wu Kun proposed a “The Basic Theory of the Philosophy of Information”, which became available in English only in 2010. Wu and Joseph Brenner then found that the latter’s non-standard “Logic in Reality” provided critical logical support for Wu’s theory. In Part I of our paper, we outline the two basic theories as a metaphilosophy and metalogic for information. We offer our two theories as a further contribution to an informational paradigm. In Part II [WuB14], we develop the relation between information and social value as a basis for the ethical development of the emerging Information Society.
