The study presents partial results of a research project which monitors the reception of poetry by primary and secondary school students. We introduce a research of the reception of poems by selected students of a vocational school. We would like to find out whether a research method, which is based on a semantic differential and designed primarily to measure reading experiences of grammar school students, is able to capture the reader‘s experiences of the concerned respondents, too. We compare the results with the results of grammar school students obtained in a previous research. The results show that the semantic differential method can also be used to measure reading experiences of students of vocational schools. Factor analysis showed sufficient saturation of particular scales by relevant factors. It was also revealed that vocational school students are able to read poetry independently and record their reading experiences when sufficiently motivated. It very much depends on their motivation, a selection of appropriate texts, and choice of appropriate teaching methods

The purpose of this study was a diagnosis of the attitudes of students of Warsaw universities towards people with disabilities and the variables which impacted on these attitudes. Additionally, we examined the relationship between the need for social approval and explicit attitudes towards people with disabilities. The study focused on two components of attitudes: behavioural (measured by preferable social distance – SDSB) and cognitive (tested with a semantic differential scale – SDSO). 318 students completed a survey including a demographic sheet, a social desirability scale, the SDSB and SDSO. The results indicate that students expressed positive attitudes towards people with disabilities. The impact of such variables as gender, the type of disability and the need for social approval was registered and were differentiated in regard to components of attitudes. The results are discussed with reference to earlier research and cues for further studies are suggested.

In recent decades political activity has become more and more personalized. Thus, to achieve political success, it is necessary to have a recognizable and popular party leader. Polish left-wing parties have adopted a different strategy. Instead of betting on one leader, they promote “three tenors” from different political generations (Robert Biedroń, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, and Adrian Zandberg). The aim of our study (N=379) is to diagnose how voters perceive the political images of these left-wing leaders and what feelings they have towards them. We confirm the findings from other studies suggesting the effect of political preferences and ideological orientation on the perception of political image and emotional attitudes to party leaders.

Aim. The main aim of our project is to find out the opinions of selected groups of respondents about the teaching of foreign languages. Methods. For verification, we chose to apply the research method of semantic differential and matched it in relation to psycholinguistics. Semantic differential is a research method aimed at verifying how respondents perceive concepts. We focused on verifying what the term language teaching evokes in three different groups of respondents (pupils/students, parents, and teachers). 16 bipolar terms were chosen, which the respondents had to evaluate on a scale of 1 to 7. The given term was evaluated more positively, the smaller the value of the number was. Didactic research was attended by 231 respondents who were divided into three basic groups: teacher, parent, and pupil/student. Then, the experimentally obtained data was statistically analysed and compared using post-hoc tests to determine which of the groups showed any results of significance. Results. Of the used terms, only 3 were statistically significant: contemporary - outdated, valuable - worthless and cheerful- sad. The statistically significant difference was manifested in the two groups of pupils/students and parents. Pupils/students evaluated the teaching of foreign languages as contemporary, valuable, and fun. By contrast, parents are inclined to answer that teaching foreign languages is outdated, less valuable and sad. Conclusion. The results evoke the implementation of new innovative based methods, for example, on integrated teaching (CLIL method) or new activating teaching methods.

Psychologists, teachers of inclusive education (for example, a teacher's assistant), parents, and IT specialists are involved in the process of teaching students with autism. Modern information technologies of education support can help paraprofessionals to perform their functions. Virtualization of educational content, namely avatars in the mode of augmented (virtual) reality, will allow taking into account the personal learning opportunities and needs of students with autism. The semantic differential method should be used to understand how the proposed virtual assistant satisfies the individual characteristics of such a student.

The article presents a description of the research method and the results of research regarding the difference in the reception of space depending on the way it is perceived. The research concerned one space (the square in front of the building of the Eastern Innovative Centre of Architecture at the Lublin University of Technology) and three different reception methods. One group of respondents was physically in the square, the other group virtually – with the use of virtual reality (VR) technologies, and the third one saw only pictures of the square. Each group of respondents chose the emotions with which they identified most from the semantic scale developed for this study. The results of the groups were compared, and the conclusions were presented in the summary. The study was conducted to evaluate the possibility of using VR technology and photographs to study emotions that a given space evokes in its recipients.

Wyniki grup zostały porównane, a wnioski zostały przedstawione w podsumowaniu. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone w celu sprawdzenia możliwości użycia technologii VR i zdjęć do badań emocji, jakie powstają w odbiorcy danej przestrzeni.

S. Freud called house a medium of self-identification of human personality. Interior architectural design is one of the courses which are taught at architectural schools. In the curricula of the WAPB and BNTU this course is conducted as a design studio. It is intended that within that frame students are to acknowledge and unite theory with practice. An original method of the guided design of housing interiors is presented in the publication. It is based on application of the predefined design algorithm, that takes into account psychotypes of the users. Special attention is paid on the chosen metaprograms. The design made by the students of the WAPB is presented as an example of the algorithm application.

Family is a dynamic structure, changing over the centuries, and even over a generation. Family’s structure, performed functions and model change. Along with these changes, the role of grandparents changes as well. In many cases, the grandparents of today become a kind of educational institution supporting, to a large extent, parents in their childcare. The changes taking place in modern society including the lengthening of life, the increase of education level, professional activity of women, labour migration of parents, or even single parenthood by choice, affect the change in the role of grandparents in the family. These changes also include emotional relationships between grandparents and their grandchildren, and the intensity of the various types of mutual activity. This article is an attempt to show the issues concerning the role of grandparents in contemporary family in theory as well as an attempt to diagnose the image of grandparents in the perception of students from secondary schools – people standing on the threshold of adulthood. The studies used the semantic differential and unfinished sentences test. The semantic differential technique makes it possible to determine the emotional component of attitudes towards grandma and grandpa. The test of unfinished sentences, which is a projection technique, was applied because it is a source of information which is not completely realized by the researched students in terms of the researched aspect – in this case, grandmother and grandfather. The results received allowed obtaining and comparing the image of grandfather and grandmother in the perception of students from vocational school, technical school and high school.

Uzyskane wyniki badań pozwoliły uzyskać i porównać obraz dziadka i babci w percepcji uczniów szkoły zawodowej, technikum i liceum.
