The article briefly describes the problem of “the Foreign” in intercultural translations (based on research conducted by A. Berman, R. Lewicki, A. Bednarczyk and D. Urbanek). The text draws attention to a culture which is both foreign to the source language and the target language users, that is so called the “Third Culture”. The problem is illustrated by examples from the novel Almaznaya kolesnitsa by a postmodern Russian writer Boris Akunin, and its translation into Polish (by Jerzy Gondowicz) entitled Diamentowa karoca. Here, the Third Culture turns out to be the Japanese culture, seen through the eyes of a Russian gentleman, the main character of The Adventures of Erast Fandorin book series. The author performs a theoretical analysis of the educational experience in philology teachers’ professional training in Germany in the context of solving scientific problem of literary competence development. Internal and external factors of this process have been determined both by socio-political realities, economic, philosophical, cultural, psychological factors, and the dynamics of the literary process in developed countries, content diversity of literary studies, methodological, aesthetic, methodological factors of mastering literature process have been emphasized. Particular attention has been paid to designing strategies for studying modern literature based on Bourdieu’s theory providing a detailed understanding of specific contexts and holistic understanding of the literary field due to metadiscourse analysis. Through the use of empirical data the process of literary field theory establishing in the German literature study has been explained, attention has been focused on reviewing the G. Grass’ latest novel by literary critics under the influence of external and internal factors of literary process development that specifies educational process of literary competence development.

The aim of this article is to interpret the novel El mundo alucinante by virtue of criticism of totalitarian regimes which are formulated by its author Reinaldo Arenas. Using the concepts of parody, satire, and allegory, which are typical of postmodern literature, the warnings of searching for a collective utopia are formulated. We arrive at the conclusion that a collective utopia inherently leads to a totalitarian and antidemocratic state and, at the same time, it puts modern democracy at risk.
