Total laryngectomy is the most radical way to get rid of the cancer of the larynx. Laryngectomy removes sound generator that function is assumed to the esophagus. Laryngektomia całkowita to sposób najbardziej radykalny na pozbycie się nowotworu krtani. Laryngektomia pozbawia generatora dźwięku, którego funkcję przejmują tkanki przełyku. Kluczowym etapem postępowania logopedycznego jest wprowadzanie powietrza do przełyku i dźwięczne jego odbicie (ructus). Wśród metod rehabilitacji głosu i mowy osób laryngektomowanych wyróżnić można trzy podstawowe: metodę klasyczną (logopedyczną), chirurgiczną lub przy użyciu tzw. elektronicznych krtani.
