The traditional definition of language aptitude sees it as “an individual’s initial state of readiness and capacity for learning a foreign language, and probable facility in doing so given the presence of motivation and opportunity” (Carroll, 1981, p. 86). This conception portrays language aptitude as a trait, in the sense of exhibiting stability over long periods of time and being immune to training. The trait view of language aptitude tends towards the notion that it is innate, and indeed language aptitude has often been associated with the popular notion of a “gift for languages” (cf. Rosenthal, 1996, p. 59). The view of language aptitude as an innate trait has, however, long been questioned (see e.g., Neufeld, 1978). Recently, this questioning has intensified (see Singleton, 2014), especially since the development of a widespread consensus that working memory needs to be recognized as an important component of language aptitude (see Wen, 2016). Working memory was also once thought of as a trait, but is now recognized as susceptible to the influence of experience and instruction (see e.g., Williams, 2012). The present paper will track the trajectory of the above theoretical discussion and will explore the implications of the stage it has now reached.

The performance of football players within game context can be analyzed based on their ability to break or (re)balance the attacker-defender dyad. In this context, the analysis of each sub-phase (e.g., 1v1, 2v2) presents a feature that needs to be taken into account in sports analysis. This study aims to investigate the interpersonal dynamics dyad formed by the attacker and the defender in 1v1 situations with a goalkeeper. A sample of 11 football male players (age: 17.91 ± 1.04 years) with 8.6 ± 1.52 years of practice experience participated in the study. Analyzing the 1v1 sub-phase, results show that the distance, speed and angular amplitude between the attacker and the defender increases, especially when the attacker attempts to overtake the defender (i.e., score a goal). We conclude that decision-making emerges from the perception that players draw from the action, actively and consistently interacting to find solutions to emerging problems within the game context

The purpose of the article is to analyze the regulatory framework of physical education in higher pedagogical education institutions of Ukraine in the second half of the 40’s – the late 80’s of the XXth century. Research methods: theoretical analysis, comparison and synthesis of the sources. The results of the study: based on the analysis of normative-legal documents the strategy of the state towards physical education of students is defined. Practical value: the study, on the basis of historical experience, allows to identify the ways of improving the normative-legal basis of physical education in the pedagogical universities. Conclusions and prospects for further research: it was found out that the regulatory framework of physical education in higher pedagogical education institutions of Ukraine during the analyzed period consisted of documents of different levels of legal hierarchy adopted by many party and state authorities. Analysis of legal acts shows that the strategy of the state in relation to physical education of students was not constant and changed under the influence of political, social and economic factors. So, in the early postwar years the priority was the restoration of physical education in higher schools on military basis. The contents of legal documents, adopted before 1948, was directed at achieving this result. After the decree of the Central Committee of the CC UCP(b) “On the development of mass sports movement and growth of skills of Soviet athletes” (December 1948) physical activity of pedagogical universities focuses on identifying and training athletes who would have been able to win at international competitions. A new phase of legal regulation of physical education in higher education institutions begins at the end of the 1950s. Its feature is refocusing on the development of mass sports movement in the universities and promoting the health of students. In general, regulatory support of physical education in higher education institutions in the period under study is characterized by dynamism and desire to improve the system of physical development of students. However, the level of legislation in this area cannot be recognized as coherent, stable and such that fully conforms to the time requirements. The subject of further study is the content of the curriculum of physical culture for schools as part of the normative support of physical education of students of higher education institutions.

The economies of modern developing countries are based on knowledge. The traditional model of education is insufficient. Continues education, through decades of one's career, becomes a necessity. Thus an idea of "distance learning" was born, a field which needs constant improvement, so it can meets the demands of a contemporary education.

Purpose. This study investigated if (1) the beneficial effects of an external focus of attention on learning a motor skill were influenced by an internal focus of attention provided at initial instruction (2) or by an internal focus of attention at the early stage of the acquisition phase and (3) their relation to the automation hypothesis. Methods. Three separate experiments were performed with 168 college students on the acquisition, transfer, and retention of a golf-putting task. Results. In conjunction, the results of the three experiments pointed to the positive effects of an internal attention of focus instructions followed by an external attentional focus on motor learning. Conclusions. These results support the development of an alternative hypothesis on the effects of attentional focus on motor skill acquisition.

The paper contains the proposal about changing the form of teaching on surveying departments at technical universities and giving new image to our efforts. The idea of common project has been formulated, in which a number of surveying departments could participate by preparing exercises to do by Internet. It could be extended on lectures and demonstrations. The project relies on experiences on distance learning, especially on the UNIGIS project that is executed by the group of universities on the field of GIS. The proposal presented here is waiting for declarations of a couple of universities to participate in the project.

The article reveals the introduction of podcasts in English teacher training as a part and necessity of modern technocratic society. In regard of new technical and computer approaches to learning and mastering the English language methodology and technical side of the question are described. The paper also analyzes the benefits of using online audio files: free access, a variety of available topics, a stimulating effect, an expert opinion and exchange, options to change/modify or create any educational material, the possibilities of individual and group work. The basic principles, guidelines and stages of introducing and organizing the students’ work with audio material are characterized. Podcasts are regarded as a free source of knowledge and as a self-made product which the students and their instructor can create and post online at the same time. Such material can be used both in class and in extra curriculum activity. Before starting work with an episode the students should be thoroughly taught the basic principles of applying podcasts and special software (iTunes, Audacity etc). As soon as the students are adjusted they can be offered a number of tasks that stimulate creativity, cognition, partnership. Firstly they use ready-made files from the web learning or mastering phonological, lexical or grammatical items in a definite situation – context. At the second stage they can be involved into a communicative game based on the example of the audio. Only then the learners can develop their own episodes revealing the aspects of the topic they are interested in. (The article illustrates a few tasks which correspond to different levels of work with podcasts). At this stage co-editing is extremely important. It means that the instructor and the group mates turn to be one productive team. Mutual support and cooperation guarantee students’ outstanding achievements. More over the materials can be posted online and listened to by native speakers or an expert from a definite sphere. So the students’ work can be objectively evaluated via feedback. This very fact can urge the class to be more responsible while preparing the material. Thus academic work with authentic audio files meets modern requirements to English teacher training. It greatly contributes to the development of professional linguistic skills and competence.

Despite of many years of experience and significant achievments of survey departments at non-geodetic faculties the problem how to develop research activity in the modern the trend research and technology is continously valid. In the paper the problem has been presented in two aspects: more and more formalized necessities of informatic society and due to fact that research problems of geodetic departments very often are impacted by the local necessities of structural and environmental departments that are less and less inspiring from research point of view.
