EN
We have made a case here for utilizing tensor framework for hypertext mining. Tensor is a generalization of vector and tensor framework discussed here is a generalization of vector space model which is widely used in the information retrieval and web mining literature. Most hypertext documents have an inherent internal tag structure and external link structure that render the desirable use of multidimensional representations such as those offered by tensor objects. We have focused on the advantages of Tensor Space Model, in which documents are represented using sixth-order tensors. We have exploited the local-structure and neighborhood recommendation encapsulated by the proposed representation. We have defined a similarity measure for tensor objects corresponding to hypertext documents, and evaluated the proposed measure for mining tasks. The superior performance of the proposed methodology for clustering and classification tasks of hypertext documents have been demonstrated here. The experiment using different types of similarity measure in the different components of hypertext documents provides the main advantage of the proposed model. It has been shown theoretically that, the computational complexity of an algorithm performing on tensor framework using tensor similarity measure as distance is at most the computational complexity of the same algorithmperforming on vector space model using vector similarity measure as distance.

The discussion initiated in the 1960s by McLuhan concerning the interrelationship between what is said (orality) and what is written (literacy) has been replaced by a new approach focusing on the connection between image and text. This shift of attention results, among others, from the increasing role of technical media and computers and the decreasing role of the traditional written culture in the shape of books and print. The contemporary media are becoming something more than just a passive tool for information transmission. The text and the word itself are undergoing technologization, as Walter Ong, has put it, and they are often accompanied by the image. Linguistics cannot ignore these changes, and investigates the evolving materiality of communication, focusing on design, the so-called text performance, visual layer, and the whole emerging from both the image and text. The last two are becoming so strictly connected, especially in internet hypertexts, that the phrase “iconic turn” is often used. Apart from that, there appears text fragmentation, which leads to changes in the process of reception: ordinary reading recedes replaced by holistic reading (based on whole images).

Travel is one of the most popular items people tend to be comfortable with purchasing over the Internet. Hypertext is a form of electronic text composed of blocks of words (or images) linked electronically by multiple paths, chains, or trails. This study explores the importance of hypertext in the travel destination choice from websites. Results show that hypertext links containing images of destinations, informative texts, and search tools are the three most important features utilized by tourist website browsers. This study aims to offer insights into new areas for further research on tourism websites design, application and evaluation.

The following article is an attempt to point out the conceptional similarities between two medially distinct kinds of text - the aphorism and the hypertext. The basis for achieving this aim is the concept of coherence. This article supports a broader, process-oriented concept of coherence, which involves the reader as the creator of coherence. The analysis concetrates on the aphorism, with its fragmentary structure, which demandrs participation in constructiong the sense of the text. An attempt is made to exemplify the conceptional hypertextuality of such texts with some aphorisms of K. Kraus, E. Canetti and S. J. Lec.

With the aesthetical project in mind of composing a theatre à la well-tempered clavichord (Clavecin bien tempéré du théâtre), Jean Tardieu manages to achieve it due to a couple of oxymoronic gestures, that is diairesis and sunagôgè. If the former suggests an irreverent theatre (the result of the re-writing of a series of transformational operations and of demystification of the collective imaginary) with a major focus on obsolete paradigms (vaudeville, bourgeois drama, boulevard drama), the latter is rather a matter of revisiting or transvaluating these hypotexts in the manner of, say, Matéï Visniec’s theatre. Space, time, language and characters undergo some distortion in order to highlight an outworn scenic chronotope, an old world, and to refer to theatre itself in a self-referential gesture. While showing us to the lounge, certain rough sketches would make the spectator consider a dynamic interpretation performed in Diderot’s, Labiche’s or in Feydeau’s time, but this topos has nothing to do with the function miming offstage workings, since it merely provides a theatrical convention. The spectator, receiver of a didascalic paratext with a metatextual scent, becomes an accomplice in this act of théâtromageiros

The present study shows that the novel Allah Is Not Obliged (2000) by Ahmadou Kourouma from the Ivory Coast, is an up-dated “Africanized“ transposition of Journey to the End of the Night (1932), L-F. Céline’s key 20th century French novel despite the lapse of time and different contexts, in which both works originated. After a brief introduction of contexts and Kourouma’s problem of ambivalent relationship with the French language, it focuses on the portrayal of affinity between hypotext and hypertext. The study emphasizes a similar concept of the character identical with the narrator “imposing“ a novel’s construction, a similar vision of being in the world and especially a similar need to come up with an original linguistic expression of the topic, which hides the issues of language and narration beneath the surface.

This paper shows genre determinants of journal announcement practiced online. Applying the genological theories of press experts, key characteristics of newsmedia on the WWW and his own observations, the author presents journal announcement as a dynamic hypertextual structure with its pragmatic and stylistic aspects. The basic structure of this genre was described as a three-degree model formed with a path providing semantic relationships between two nodes. The author, does not only explore specified characteristics in all distinguished contents, but also tries to grasp basic relationships, modifications and undergoing changes on the way to genological evolution – from press to online journalism.

Czy przełom w kulturze i zasadach komunikowania należy utożsamiać z kryzysem literatury i upadkiem tzw. kultury wysokiej, bądź aliansem literatury z kulturą masową?

W polskiej rzeczywistości oświatowej podręczniki w formie elektronicznej zostały dopuszczone do użytku szkolnego w 2009 r. U progu dekady ich edukacyjnego wykorzystywania pojawia się potrzeba refleksji teoretyczno-metodologicznej nad tożsamościowymi zadaniami nowoczesnych hipermedialnych e-podręczników. Tej tematyce poświęcony jest prezentowany artykuł.

The article is an attempt to present the multiple aspects of the “death” of the book in culture. The topic can be examined on several levels, discussed in the following order: empirical (physical), speculative (discursive) and artistic (fi ctional). The author raises the question of the validity of the metaphorical use of the word „death” with reference to the book, pointing to its basic sources and connotations. The author’s refl ections are complemented by a short overview of literary images of the “death” of the book, which serve, as she believes, didactic and propaganda functions.

W artykule przedstawiono całościowo życie i naukową twórczość Władimira Toporowa (1928--2005), jednego z najwybitniejszych rosyjskich uczonych XX wieku, filologa, lingwisty, literaturoznawcy, folklorysty, badacza starożytności indoeuropejskich i słowiańskich, mitologii i religii, semiotyka, kulturoznawcy, filozofa, autora fundamentalnych prac w dziedzinie bałtystyki (między innymi pięciotomowego słownika języka pruskiego), indologii, bałkanistyki, filologii klasycznej. „mitu podstawowego” o walce gromowładcy z przeciwnikiem chtonicznym. Autorka wskazuje i analizuje kluczowe pojęcia, które cały bogaty dorobek uczonego scalają w jeden „hipertekst”, takie jak czas, miejsce, rzecz, czyn, myśl, słowo, liczba, imię, świętość, los. Szczególne znaczenie nadawał Toporow tekstowi. Pojęcie tekstu uczony wyprowadził poza ramy wąskiego znaczenia filologicznego (werbalnego) i skojarzył ze zorganizowaną w określony sposób semantyczną sekwencją znaków różnego rodzaju dźwięków, gestów, kolorów, obrazów itd. Tekst, któremu jako konstytutywną cechę Toporow przypisywał sens, stał się głównym przedmiotem strukturalnosemiotycznych badań nad kulturą.

The article presents the life and work of Vladimir Toporov (1928--2005), one of the most distinguished Russian scholars of the 20th century, a philologist, linguist, literary analyst, folklorist, a student of Indo-European and Slavic ancient heritage, mythology and religion, a semiotician, theorist of culture, philosopher, the author of fundamental works in Baltic studies (among others, a five-volume dictionary of Prussian), Indian and Balkan studies or classic philology. Born in Moscow, Toporov worked all his life at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Academy of Sciences, together with other distinguished scholars, such as Vyacheslav Ivanov, Nikita Tolstoy, Oleg Trubachev, Vladimir Dybo or Andrey Zaliznyak. The names of Toporov and Ivanov are associated with the development of structuralism in Slavic studies and the emergence of the famous Moscow-Tartu semiotic school. In their work they proposed a reconstruction of the proto-Slavic mythological text, the so called “basic myth”, about a struggle of the “master of thunder” with chthonian creatures. The author indicates and analyzes key concepts, such as time, place, thing, act, thought, word, number, name, sanctity, fate, which unite the whole rich legacy of the scholar into a single “hypertext”. A special meaning was given by Toporov to the conception of text. He extended it beyond the narrow philological (verbal) meaning and associated it with a specially organized semantic sequence of signs of a different kind: sounds, gestures, colours, pictures etc. Text, whose constitutive feature Toporov identified to be SENSE, became the major object of structuralsemiotic research on culture.
