Analysis of stable operation conditions of the input filters of the mine locomotives' drive systems was presented in the paper. Equations describing the drive system in various operation states were formulated on the basis of a simplified model of the traction system. The points of balance were obtained and linearization of the system was carried out using the power series method and Jacobi matrix. Conditions of stable operation concerning the minimum value of the input filter capacitance depending on the parameters of the supply source and traction network and also on the characteristics and operation states of the drive were given. Special attention was paid to the analysis of the stable operation conditions in the generating mode during braking. Selected results of simulation and laboratory tests concerning the stable operation conditions of the input filter of the drive system of the pulse-mode controlled mine locomotive were presented. Laboratory tests were carried out using a laboratory stand equipped with a 45 kW traction motor of the mine locomotive type Ld 31.

Przedstawiono uwagi ogólne związane z EMC w napędzie elektrycznym oraz bardziej szczegółowo wyniki badań własnych nad zjawiskiem napięcia niezrównoważenia charakterystycznego dla falowników PWM współpracujących z silnikami asynchronicznymi połączonymi w gwiazdę. Napięcie to wywołuje prąd niezrównoważenia. Ilustrowane jest to oscylogramami. Przedstawia się też oscylogramy ilustrujące zjawiska falowe w przewodzie między silnikiem i przekształtnikiem.

One has presented conducted EMC problems in new PWM inverter drives. We have shown results of our investigations. We have presented common mode voltage waveforms produced in motor windings neutral point. The steps of common mode voltage force current to flow trough parasitic capacitive. In the paper we have also presented disturbance effects in long cables between inverter and motor.

LC input filters are applied in the traction drives with DC or AC motors controlled with the power electronic systems. As follows from experience in operation of the electric mine locomotives the most frequent reason for faults of these systems are faults of the filter's capacitors. Oscillations of voltage and current during the transient states of the drive operation can be one of the reasons for the damage of the capacitors. In this paper, special attention is paid to the angular frequency of oscillations of the voltage across the filter capacitor in transient states of drive operation. This quantity can be used in diagnostic and elimination of fault operation of the power electronic systems of the vehicles' drives. On the basis of a simplified model of the traction system, non-linear equation describing the system is formulated, linearized characteristic equation is given and minimum value of the filter capacity ensuring stable operation of the system is determined. The relationship determining the angular frequency is derived. The analysis of the influence of the filter capacity, inductance and resistance of the traction network, supply source voltage and power of the drive on the angular frequency of the oscillations of the voltage across the filter capacitor is carried out using simulations in the IsSpice program. Selected results of tests of the laboratory traction drive system equipped with a traction motor of the mine locomotive type Ld 31 are presented in the last section of the paper.

New fully controlled semiconductor power switches make considerable increase of operation frequency of converters in traction drives possible. Considering undesirable consequences of pulse current flow in the supply source and in the traction network, the increase of the converter's operation frequency allows to significant decrease of the capacitance and inductance of the input filter's components. However, the decrease of the parameter values of these components can be unacceptable due to instable operation of the drive system, which results in appearance of low-frequency undamped oscillations in the current and voltage waveforms of the input filter's capacitor. Various methods of damping these oscillations presented in the literature, for example increasing of the capacitance of the filter's capacitor, inserting an additional resistor or specific control strategies have some disadvantages and are not always effective. A method to limit the unstable region of operation of the traction drive through appropriate solution of the input filter system assuming that the mass and dimensions of the filter components are not bigger and the cost is not higher than in case of commonly applied LC filter has been suggested in the paper. Results of research of the features of the modified input filter and the results of comparison analysis between this filter and the LC type Γ filter have been presented. Special attention was paid to the stable operation region and to fluctuations of current and voltage in the filter system. The research was carried out using the IsSpice simulation program and the Maple computer algebra system.
