We continue investigations of weighted finite automata (WFA) as devices to compute real functions. Based on eigenvalues of the transition matrices of automata we provide a simple necessary condition for continuity and smoothness properties of the functions they compute. Using this condition we show that polynomials are the only smooth functions computed by WFA and that any WFA computing a polynomial of degree k must have at least k+1 states.

In this paper, we present some basic facts concerning ordered fields. We review definitions of an ordered field, give an example of a field that admits many orderings, and present equivalent definitions of the axiom of Archimedes and the continuity axiom. We show how to extend an ordered field by means of an ultrapower construction and formal power series.

Traditional education, which involves the acquisition of knowledge only during the period of study at school, transformed into an education that involves the study of theory, skills and abilities throughout life. In this regard, special importance has gained continuity of education that enables organic solution teacher on training and its adaptation to the new realities of modern society. The article presents the methodological and organizational framework research on continuity in design and technological preparation of future teachers of technology. The theoretical model of continuity of designand technological preparation of junior specialists and bachelors at colleges and universities is characterized. Continuity of communication reflects the past, present and future in the content, methods, ways, means and methods of teaching. The learning process in higher education institution is an important stage of continuous process of education that continues throughout life. Therefore, this training should be realized in wide use of already obtained in previous stages knowledge, skills. Continuity in terms of educational and scientific complex “college-university” combines the various stages of continuous professional education and is planned to ensure the transitions between the individual links of the educational process that ensures systematic knowledge and, ultimately, improve the design and technological preparation of future teachers. Continuity in terms of educational and scientific complex “college-university” combines the various stages of continuous professional education and is planned to ensure the transitions between the individual links of the educational process that ensures systematic knowledge and, ultimately, improve the design and technological preparation of future teachers. College, in our opinion, is the important link that connects high-school vocational education with training in core faculty. It should be noted that college is not a higher school and university yet. For further education by getting stepped levels and directing them to the European space of education all colleges concludes agreements with higher education institutions. You can also say that the problem of continuity as an important factor of professional training of future teachers of technology has not found sufficient coverage in the technical literature. Therefore, the current teaching practice has certain difficulties and requires further study and thorough solution.

This article is primarily focused on the Estonians and how they have preserved their culture while living in both their home land and in foreign communities abroad. Estonian folklore is at the heart of Estonian culture. In the 20th century, it was used to maintain a sense of identity. One of the most powerful symbols of self-expression in Estonian history was folk songs and dance festivals. Particularly impressive, maintaining the folk tradition, are the National Song and Dance festivals, held both in Estonia and by Estonians living abroad. The early 20th century decades created the traditional culture that has been built upon over the years to result in what is today’s folk dance tradition. Even after the destruction of World War II, the people of Estonia, both geographically and living abroad remained a coherent whole, ensuring the continuity of the Estonian folk culture. Many dimensions and representations of the folk tradition are evidenced in the major festivals conducted in both Estonia and abroad.

Proofs of the fundamental theorem of algebra can be divided upinto three groups according to the techniques involved: proofs that rely onreal or complex analysis, algebraic proofs, and topological proofs. Algebraicproofs make use of the fact that odd-degree real polynomials have real roots. This assumption, however, requires analytic methods, namely, the intermediatevalue theorem for real continuous functions. In this paper, we developthe idea of algebraic proof further towards a purely algebraic proof of theintermediate value theorem for real polynomials. In our proof, we neither usethe notion of continuous function nor refer to any theorem of real and complexanalysis. Instead, we apply techniques of modern algebra: we extend thefield of real numbers to the non-Archimedean field of hyperreals via an ultraproductconstruction and explore some relationships between the subringof limited hyperreals, its maximal ideal of infinitesimals, and real numbers.

The Kalikow problem for a pair (λ,κ) of cardinal numbers,λ > κ (in particular κ = 2) is whether we can map the family of ω-sequences from λ to the family of ω-sequences from κ in a very continuous manner. Namely, we demand that for η,ν ∈ ω we have: η, ν are almost equal if and only if their images are. We show consistency of the negative answer, e.g., for $ℵ_ω$ but we prove it for smaller cardinals. We indicate a close connection with the free subset property and its variants.

W wielu przypadkach mamy do czynienia z dość drogimi i skomplikowanymi układami, które mają zastosowania w dużych budynkach użyteczności publicznej i obiektach przemysłowych.

The experimental study of the vitality of the vocabulary of the Polish language is based on the example of the collection of names and definitions of men and women, which are used in the works of the outstanding Polish writer - Stefan Żeromski (1864 – 1925). These words (a total of 864 words) were set against their vitality in the idiolect of the author of the article (born in the year 1932). Thereafter they were compared with the condition of the national vocabulary documented in two lexicons of the Polish language edited by W. Doroszewski (based on the canon of texts of the XIX century and the first half of the XX century) and edited by S. Dubisz (incorporating the modern language). The experiment was based on the verification of the continuity of the life of words in the idiolect of the direct witness and participant in the long-term period of the life of the vocabulary. The conclusions, which were drawn up on the basis of this study, are as follows: the permanent vitality of words (lexical and semantic) is maintained during a longer period in the live public communication, as compared to the lexicons. 56,7% of the collection of words used in Żeromski’s letters were preserved in the author’s idiolect. Besides, during a period of more than 150 years, several caesuras (turning points) in the life of specified groups of the analyzed vocabulary were observed. The most expressive caesura occurred at the end of the XX century and the beginning of the XXI century; during this period, the life of many words -- including the live language of communication -- which had been used before, discontinued. The external reasons are mainly the systemic changes, which took place after the second World War, and most recently – the civilization and cultural changes.

In this article I would like to focus on the issue of the influence of Le Corbusier on the architecture of the buildings constructed after the war with respect to their form, expression or location of such architecture in the historic spatial context. As much as the Polish avant-garde architecture of the interwar era derived from the published works and statements of Le Corbusier, as much the tendency weakened after 1948 giving way to the government imposed socialist realism style. Breakthrough of the year of 1956 became the turning point in the search for the references to and drawing from the output of the master. This kind of permission makes up the grounds for the search I've mentioned at the beginning. To follow the patterns is not to be an anonymous act of copying, but rather an act of creating new forms which have their own position in modern architecture.

There could be a virtuous collaboration between philosophy and architecture, as an Ital-ian xample, played by Banfi, Paci and Rogers (inspired also by Dewey), teaches. And the result of this virtuous collaboration could gives architecture a foundation inspired to the philosophical notions of continuity with the context (that is urban, but also historical, social, and cultural), and of relation in general ("the technique, far from creating a dualism feen man and nature, is the concrete test, actually, of this relation", so that "the tech-nique is a potential positive situation"), notions that lead to an important ethical commit-, that is the architect's duty to "insert the needs of life within the culture", feeling "the responsibility of our own actions not in the close barricade of an egotistical expression, but as a collaboration that, with our contribution, increases and enriches the infinite actuality of the possible formal combinations of an universal relation".

The article is devoted to the analysis of psychological and pedagogical views on the essence of the principle of continuity. The author found out that the psychological aspect is associated with the development of the personality at different age levels, with the “zone of proximal development”, which involves the execution of child jobs under the guidance of a teacher and a gradual transition to independent work, with the change of leading type of activity in the process of transition from one age period to another, in line with which you experience new kinds, as well as with the theory of staged (planned) formation of mental actions, that is, the process of knowledge acquisition and action goes through several stages, each of which created certain preconditions for the implementation of continuity in learning. Scientists consider that the problem of continuity interested not only the researchers in the modern age, but also of the past. Their merit is that they have formulated the basic rules of consistent presentation of the material: to move from the known to the unknown, from easy to difficult, from near to far. However, the deep development and practical application of this problem has not been received. At the present stage, the continuity is seen as a very complex and versatile process that is expressed differently in different environments and has its own peculiarity. This caused differences in the definition of this term, as each author focuses on a particular part or on one side of the educational process. Accordingly, continuity is characterized as: the didactic principle; the methodological principle; pedagogical principle; the rule; the requirement that refers to knowledge and skills of students at a particular stage of training and the like. From a pedagogical point of view, this concept includes a sequence of the learning process. Despite the differences in understanding and definition of continuity in terms of content they manifest common approaches. Most authors who agree on the continuity suggest a link to previous material, then that prepares students for conscious and strong mastering of the new material; the broadening and deepening of knowledge; reflection on a new, higher level. The above mentioned approaches to determine the status and identify the essence of continuity only underscore its universality and multi-functionality. The prospects for further searches in this direction of the research are seen in the development of a technique of realization of continuity in teaching the younger students to create texts.

Exhaustive and uniformly exhaustive elements are studied in the setting of locally solid topological Riesz spaces with the principal projection property. We study the structure of the order interval [O, χ] when x is an exhaustive element and the structure of the solid hull of a set of uniformly exhaustive elements.

Performance is usually seen as a transient event. Hamlet calls it a thing. How can an event become a thing? Philosophy distinguishes between things and events. The two orders are different. Their difference is articulated in terms of time. Things are continuous, while events are evanescent. Hamlet calls the play within the play a ‘thing’ (Hamlet. II. Ii. 612). He thus thrusts it into the order of the continuous. Levinas introduces the concept of being otherwise. In order to explain the evanescent continuity, we will make use of this concept. Acting introduces a new mode of being that differs from that of writing. It is „eventive” continuity that we wish to speak about. An actor is only otherwise. By this, we mean that s/he is essentially a difference. An actor is only what s/he is not. By being a difference, the actor survives. Actors do not die. It is true that actors are mortals but the role will survive being acted. Unlike writing, where the word survives as a fixed monument, the role survives through repetition. This repetition is a recreation through repetitive simultaneity. When Iago says: I am not what I am (Othello. I. i. 65), he defines himself as a simultaneous difference. To be only as difference is quite challenging. Indeed, if the only mode of being is being otherwise, we speak about pure difference. Pure difference — total otherness that has no other — is the essence of acting. In the following essay, we intend to explore the generic question of temporality through a comparison between the monumentality of writing and that of acting. We will try to explain how a play is a thing, a continuous mode of being.

In this note we prove that on metric measure spaces, functions of least gradient, as well as local minimizers of the area functional (after modification on a set of measure zero) are continuous everywhere outside their jump sets. As a tool, we develop some stability properties of sequences of least gradient functions. We also apply these tools to prove a maximum principle for functions of least gradient that arise as solutions to a Dirichlet problem.

19th-century real analysis received a major impetus from Cauchy's work. Cauchy mentions variable quantities, limits, and infinitesimals, but the meaning he attached to these terms is not identical to their modern meaning. Some Cauchy historians work in a conceptual scheme dominated by an assumption of a teleological nature of the evolution of real analysis toward a preordained outcome. Thus, Gilain and Siegmund-Schultze assume that references to limite in Cauchy's work necessarily imply that Cauchy was working with an Archimedean continuum, whereas infinitesimals were merely a convenient figure of speech, for which Cauchy had in mind a complete justification in terms of Archimedean limits. However, there is another formalization of Cauchy's procedures exploiting his limite, more consistent with Cauchy's ubiquitous use of infinitesimals, in terms of the standard part principle of modern infinitesimal analysis. We challenge a misconception according to which Cauchy was allegedly forced to teach infinitesimals at the Ecole Polytechnique. We show that the debate there concerned mainly the issue of rigor, a separate one from infinitesimals. A critique of Cauchy's approach by his contemporary de Prony sheds light on the meaning of rigor to Cauchy and his contemporaries. An attentive reading of Cauchy's work challenges received views on Cauchy's role in the history of analysis and indicates that he was a pioneer of infinitesimal techniques as much as a harbinger of the Epsilontik.
