Eu2+-doped SrMg2(PO4)2 phosphor with blue emission was prepared by the low temperature chemical solution process using inorganic salts as a starting material. Transparent sol was preheated at 300 °C for 120 min and then precursor was finally annealed at 900 °C for 240 min in a reducing CO atmosphere. Crystallinity, surface morphology and luminescent properties have been investigated. The phosphor emits bright blue luminescence with a peak wavelength at 423 nm under near-ultraviolet excitation at 363 nm.

The article aims at analyzing diachronically and synchronously two of the Italian translations of Adam Mickiewicz's epic poem "Pan Tadeusz". The first rendition, dated on the beginning of the 20th century, when the standardized Italian had only began to form, was done by Clotilde Garosci. The second translation was done by Silvano De Fanti in the 21st century. By analyzing the renditions of blue, green and their hues in both translations, the article allows one to follow the words' transformation in the semantic field across the century.

The world at the end of the 20th century has become "blue". Indeed, this past decade has witnessed a "blue rush" towards the develpment of violet-blue-green light emitting diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes (LDs) based on wide bandgap III-Nitride semiconductors. And the hard work has culminated with, first, the demonstration of commercial high brightness blue and green LEDs and of commercial violet LDs, at the very and of this decade. Thanks to their extraordinary properties, these semiconductor materials have generated a plethora of activity in semiconductor science and technology. Novel approaches are explored daily to improve the current optoelectronics state-of-the-art. Such improvements will extend the usage and the efficiency of new light sources (e.g. white LEDs), support the rising information technology age (e.g. high density optical data storage), and enhance the environmental awareness capabilities of humans (ultraviolet and visible photon detectors and sensor). Such opportunities and many others will be reviewed in this presentation.

The Dramaturgy of Colour in David Fincher’s Gone Girl   The article is an analysis of colour symbolism in David Fincher’s Gone Girl where yellow, blue and green are symbols of marital breakdown. Colours and their contrasts emphasize competing versions of events in the film and emotional conflicts between the characters. The text refers to the psychology of visual perception and Susanne Marschall’s idea of colour playing a dramatic, symbolic and emotional role in the film.

This work focuses on the significance of the colour blue in the culture and history of two nations (Polish, beginning with the times of the Slavs who used to inhabit the present-day territories of Poland, and Italian, from the period of the Roman Empire) by means of studying the symbolism of colour in Christianity. This part of the work also includes a diachronic analysis of the condition of language and semantics associated with niebieski and azzurro. Moreover, Polish and Italian toponyms connected with colours, as well as an analysis of myths, legends and old sayings provide much information, which makes it possible to determine which colours were most significant in ancient times. Red (porpora) was the dominating colour for the Romans, while for the Slavs – according to many myths and tales – the dominating colour was (surprisingly) blue (siny – a lexeme which in present-day Polish has been degraded to a colour referring to somatic features). Blue (caeruleus and its hues) was completely spurned by the Romans and associated with strangeness or envy.

Georg Trakl as well as Bolesław Leśmian used poetry to question about peoples’ relationship with the world and both of them noticed that – as Tadeusz Sławek in the article Ratujące niebezpieczeństwo postsekularyzmu wrote – “human could be saved or redeemed only thanks to something which is nonhuman and associated with animal or God.” This statement is for me the Anzatspunkt and allows to compare a poem entitled W locie by Bolesław Leśmian and a mysterious blaues Wild figure in Trakl’s pieces. This article attempts to show specific identity of an animal, which is usually defined as the other being. It is possible to observe this factor also on the language basis. The name “animal” – as Jacques Derrida noticed – violent by itself, is a harmful category. Leśmian’s godlike creature and blaues Wild are not easy to describe –they make readers attentive to the text. This article attempts to analyse this problematic animal noun, because without understanding its nature it might be also impossible to solve the issue what “humane” and “divine” mean.

During the past decade, group III-Nitride wide bandgap semiconductors have become the focus of extremely intensive reearch because of their exceptional physical properties and their high potential for use in countless numbers of applications. Nearly all aspects have been investigated, from the fundamental physical understanding of these materials to the development of the fabrication technology and demonstration of commercial devices. The purpose of this paper is to review the physical properties of III-Nitrides, their areas of application, the current status of the material technology (AlN, AlGaN, GaN, GaInN) including synthesis and processing. The state-of-the-art of III-Nitride material quality, as well as the devices which have been demonstrated, including electronic devices, AlxGa₁-xN ultraviolet photoconductors, ultraviolet photodiodes, visible light emitting diodes (LEDs) and ultraviolet - blue laser diodes, will also be presented.
