The paper examines the notions of love and fatherland as they appear and co-exist in the early, largely unknown works of Giovanni Verga. Unfortunately, the most important of these has been lost and what one can analyse today are some excerpts quoted in the studies of the prominent critic, Federico De Roberto. Verga’s novels combined two themes, both crucial for the age of Risorgimento: romantic stories of love as well as strong patriotic feelings present among the Italian people fighting for unity and independence.
An unpublished Musical by Pirandello: a polysemic and multicultural kaleidoscope – The fact that Pirandello conceived the idea of writing a Musical was well know, but the recent discovery of the actual text and the musical score, in the archive of Guido Torre Gherson, agent of the writer while he lived in Paris, has shed some light on his final years and writings. The findings are discussed in the context of his late theatrical and fictional works, such as I giganti della montagna.
