The subject of the paper is the role of architecture in particular paintings throughout centuries. Beginning with the place to set human existence in space (caves), via the need to include some architecture in the piece of painting, and in the end, the inspiration to create fictional architecture, nonexistent in reality - only present in the artist's imagination. Finally, architecture as the key to the new vanguard trends in the paintings of the beginning of the 20thC. (Theory of supremacy of K. Malewicz).
