The research was focused on determining basic mechanical properties, surface, and phase structure taking into consideration basic cytotoxicity analysis towards human cells. Methods: Biological tests were performed on human C-12302 fibroblasts cells using 3D-printed Ti6Al4V alloy (Ti64), produced by laser-based powder bed fusion (LB-PBF) and Alumina Toughened Zirconia 20 (ATZ20), produced by lithography-based ceramic manufacturing (LCM). Surface modifications included electropolishing and hydroxyapatite or hydroxyapatite/zinc coating. Structure analysis was carried out using a variety of techniques such as X-Ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), followed by mechanical properties evaluation using nanoindentation testing. Results: Samples subjected to surface modifications showed diversity among surface and phase structure and mechanical properties. However, the cytotoxicity towards tested cells was not significantly higher than the control. Though, a trend was noted among the materials analysed, indicating that HAp/Zn coating on Ti64 and ATZ20 resulted in the best biological performance increasing cell survivability by more than 10%. Conclusions: Hydroxyapatite coating on Ti64 and ATZ20 resulted in the best biological properties. Tested materials are suitable for in vivo toxicity testing.

Simulation of the surface plasmon polariton (SPP) distribution in the 10 μm long four-channel multiplexer is conducted in present paper. The excitation of the SPP was done using the 632.8 nm pulse laser with 50 fs pulse duration. The simulation processes of the SPP propagation in the fourchannel multiplexer were performed for the latter switched as a splitter as an adder. Though the obtained signal strength is low due to ohmic losses and signal reflections in the middle of the waveguide it is possible to registrate it. The detailed procedure of waveguides preparation, analysis and registration of SPP propagation is described in the paper. For the proposed model verification the two-channel 20 μm long splitter was formed by optical projection lithography. Studies have shown that the SPP is distributed throughout the whole structure of the 20 μm long two-channel splitter with a partial extinction due to ohmic losses.

Content available remote Fractal-like diffractive arrangement with multiple focal points

In this paper we introduce a diffractive structure with a geometry which contains multiple Fresnel zone plates (MFZP) disposed in an arrangement based on a fractal-like rule. The corresponding diffracted intensity in planes perpendicular to the propagation axe presents two or more focal points. Their position and magnitude depend on geometrical parameters of the MFZP and on dimensions in the fractal-like arrangement. In our simulations we also analyze the influence in diffraction pattern of different non-binary phase levels in the MFZP plane. The MFZP structures with different values of geometrical and phase parameters are addressed to an optoelectronic device liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LCSLM), the experimental and simulation results are in a good agreement. The MFZP geometry with better optical parameters in diffraction pattern is then made on glass using electron beam lithography technique.

Although metamaterials and so-called left-handed media have originated from theoretical considerations, it is only by their practical fabrication and the measurement of their properties that they have gained credibility and can fulfil the potential of their predicted properties. In this review we consider some of the more generally applicable fabrication methods and changes in geometry as they have progressed, exhibiting resonant frequencies ranging from radio waves to the visible optical region.

The current trend in scaling transistor gate length below 60 nm is posing great challenges both related to process technology and circuit/system design. From the process technology point of view it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue scaling in traditional way due to fundamental limitations like resolution, quantum effects or random fluctuations. In turn, this has an important impact on electrical device specifications especially leakage current and the circuit power dissipation.

We developed the LIGA process using a compact synchrotron radiation (SR) source and ceramics micro fabrication process. These processes realized an array of lead zir-conate titanate (PZ7) rods whose cross section is 25 urn and was applied to manufacture piezocomposite for high resolution ultrasonic diagnosis for the first time. We also developed microconnector by the LIGA process.
