The thickness and duration of ice cover are strongly influenced by global warming. The aim of this study was to determine chemical (organic carbon, total nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations) and biological (nanoflagellates, ciliates, phytoplankton, rotifers, crustaceans) parameters under the ice cover in three eutrophic lakes (Masurian Lake District, Poland), differing in their morphometry and fisheries management. All the studied groups of organisms showed high variability over a short time. Taxonomic composition of planktonic communities, except for rotifers and phytoplankton, was similar in all lakes. Nanoflagellates were dominated by autotrophic forms, while ciliates were primarily composed of small oligotrichs and prostomatids. Nano-sized diatoms and mixotrophic cryptophytes were the most important components of phytoplankton and they formed an under-ice bloom in one lake only. Rotifers were mainly represented by Keratella cochlearis, Polyarthra dolichoptera and Asplanchna priodonta. Among crustaceans, copepods clearly dominated over cladocerans. Our research suggests that winter was a very dynamic period. In the under-ice conditions, pelagic organisms were strongly dependent on each other. The shallow lake and the deeper, small lake differed significantly in nutrient and chlorophyll concentrations, ciliate and phytoplankton biomass and the ratio of autotrophic to heterotrophic biomass. These results suggest that morphometric parameters may affect planktonic organisms during the ice-covered period.

The article analyzes various areas of twentieth-century psychiatry: (1) a number of ideas whose roots date to the second half of the 19th century, including the ideas of biological psychiatry, constitutional psychiatry and behavioural therapy; (2) the emergence of a modem paradigm of mental disease and the contribution made to that field by Kraepaelin and Bleuler; (3) attempts to find new effective solutions, especially with regard ot biological therapy; (4) an overview of the problems and dilemmas of contemporary psychiatry. Special emphasis has been put in the article on the stages and dimensions of the socalled ’’psychopharmacological revolution” and the history of the development of various groups of psychiatric drugs (chlorpromazine and the first psychiatric drugs, soporifics and sedatives, antidepressants). The author makes an attempt to point out the fundamental dilemmas of contemporary psychiatry, especially the dangers it faces from other branches of medicine and non-medical disciplines, as well as from mass culture and commercialization.

In the paper a problem of sensitivity analysis of the casting mould is presented. The parameter in relation to which the sensitivity is analysed is the thermal diffusivity of the mould material. In the final part of the paper the example of computations is shown.

W przedstawianej pracy podjęty został problem wyznaczania wrażliwości pola temperatury odlewu stygnącego w formie odlewniczej. Wybranym parametrem projektowym formy (tj. parametrem na którego zmiany badana jest wrażliwość) został współczynnik dyfuzyjności cieplnej a materiału formierskiego. Wyprowadzone zależności posłużyły do przykładowego wyznaczenia pola wrażliwości w poprzecznym przekroju odlewu.
