Physical contamination includes all material and foreign bodies which have incidentally penetrated foodstuffs. Packaging may become one of the sources of their occurrence. In the present paper, the results of the conducted studies and the conclusions, resulting from their identification as well as evaluation of importance of potential physical hazards which might occur in food packaging production, were presented. The mentioned hazards were indicated by Polish producers and certified in accordance with BRC GS Packaging Materials. The mentioned studies demonstrated also the areas of the enterprises’ activity where the physical hazards were identified. They showed the significance of the discussed threats at a given stage of manufacturing process, as well.

Zanieczyszczenia fizyczne to wszystkie materiały i ciała obce, które przypadkowo dostały się do żywności. Jednym ze źródeł ich występowania mogą być opakowania. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań i wnioski z identyfikacji oraz oceny istotności potencjalnych zagrożeń fizycznych mogących wystąpić w produkcji opakowań do żywności, wskazanych przez polskich producentów, certyfikowanych na zgodność z brytyjskim standardem BRC Packaging Materials. Badania pokazały również obszary działalności przedsiębiorstw, w których identyfikowane są zagrożenia fizyczne oraz jaka jest ich istotność na danym etapie procesu.

The article presents the results of research on information security issues in manufacturing enterprises. The study covered three large enterprises from the metallurgical industry. The main purpose of scientific observation was to establish elements subject to overexposure and to serve the security of information and to demonstrate which elements are protected and in what way. The conducted research showed considerable deficiencies in physical security, therefore a sheet was introduced for the evaluation of the implementation of the information security management system, which has a real assessment of the progress of implementation work and facilitates zero one-off evaluation of collateral held. The research forms the basis for further research in the field of information security.

W artykule zostały przedstawione wyniki badań dotyczące zagadnień bezpieczeństwa informacji w przedsiębiorstwach produkcyjnych. Badaniem zostały objęte trzy duże przedsiębiorstwa z branży metalurgicznej. Głównym celem obserwacji naukowych było ustalenie elementów podlegających nadzorowi służącemu bezpieczeństwu informacji oraz wykazanie, które elementy są chronione i w jaki sposób. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały spore braki w zabezpieczeniach fizycznych zatem wprowadzony zostały arkusz oceny projektowej wdrożenia systemu zarządzania bezpieczeństwem informacji, który ma służyć realnej ocenie postępu prac wdrożeniowych, a także ułatwiać zero jedynkową ocenę posiadanych zabezpieczeń. Badania stanowią podstawę do dalszych badań w zakresie bezpieczeństwa informacji.

Effects of multitasking on operator performance using computational and auditory tasks

This study investigated the effects of multiple cognitive tasks on human performance. Twenty-four students at North Carolina A&T State University participated in the study. The primary task was auditory signal change perception and the secondary task was a computational task. Results showed that participants' performance in a single task was statistically significantly different from their performance in combined tasks: (a) algebra problems (algebra problem primary and auditory perception secondary); (b) auditory perception tasks (auditory perception primary and algebra problems secondary); and (c) mean false-alarm score in auditory perception (auditory detection primary and algebra problems secondary). Using signal detection theory (SDT), participants' performance measured in terms of sensitivity was calculated as −0.54 for combined tasks (algebra problems the primary task) and −0.53 auditory perceptions the primary task. During auditory perception tasks alone, SDT was found to be 2.51. Performance was 83% in a single task compared to 17% when combined tasks.

Contribution of individual components of a job cycle on overall severity of whole-body vibration exposure: a study in Indian mines

Drivers of earth-moving machines are exposed to whole-body vibration (WBV). In mining operations there can be a combination of relatively high magnitudes of vibration and long exposure times. Effective risk mitigation requires understanding of the main aspects of a task that pose a hazard to health. There are very few published studies of WBV exposure from India. This paper reports on a study that considered the contribution of the component phases of dumper operations, on the overall vibration exposure of the drivers. It shows that vibration magnitudes are relatively high, and that haulage tasks are the main contributor to the exposure. It is recommended that driver speed, haul road surfaces and vehicle maintenance/selection are optimized to ensure minimization of vibration. If this is not sufficient, operation times might need to be reduced in order to ensure that the health guidance caution zone from Standard No. ISO 2631-1:1997 is not exceeded.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników z analizy raportów RASFF z lat 2008 – 2012 w aspekcie zagrożeń fizycznych występujących w żywności. Zanieczyszczenia fizyczne stanowiły ok. 4% wszystkich zgłoszeń dotyczących niebezpiecznej żywności. Zanieczyszczenia fizyczne najczęściej odnotowywano w grupie owoców i warzyw, grupie orzechów, produktów orzechowych i nasion oraz grupie zbóż i produktów piekarskich. Najwięcej powiadomień dotyczyło obecności owadów, szkła oraz metali w produktach spożywczych.

The aim of this article is the presentation of results from analysis of RASFF reports from the years 2008 – 2012 in terms of physical hazards in food. Physical contaminants constitute about 4% of all notifications of hazardous foodstuffs. Physical hazards were stated the most frequently in the group of fruits and vegetables, nuts, nut products and seeds as well as cereals and bakery products. Majority of notifications was related to the presence of insects, glass and metals
