In recent decades, the socialization of economic development has become one of the key trends in globalization and, at the same time, a multilevel, structured and institutionalized process. Theoretical approaches to the essential identification of the social economy are generalized and a multi-criteria format of evolution of its models is proposed, based on social justice, responsibility and solidarity, social mentality and culture, social unity and optimism, social security, climate and comfort. The current configuration of the sustainable development paradigm with its subjective determination is outlined. The results of cluster modeling according to global indices of human development, social process, economic freedom, well-being of the elderly, happy planet, happiness and gender gap are presented. Social attention is paid to the empirical comparison of countries in terms of social optimism using global indices of happiness and a happy planet. The results of the empirical analysis are summarized in the disposition of the Anglo-Saxon, Scandinavian, continental, Mediterranean and transitive models of the social economy, which need qualitative renewal in the process of their global scaling.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the role of social innovation in solving significant and complex problems of the Mazovia region by using the results of research conducted at the university and thus supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals by the university. Design/methodology/approach: The paper describes the results of workshops organized for scientists from all over Poland by 2 universities, i.e. the Warsaw University of Technology and the University of Warsaw. The main objective of the workshops was an attempt to identify studies conducted by their participants, the results of which could contribute to solving specific problems of the region. This publication also refers to the results of the Lean Management in Healthcare project aimed at improving the Polish health care system, and thus also at solving a very important social problem. Findings: Although the nature of these 2 projects was different, they had one objective, which was to use research results in solving important social problems. The first project can be considered as an equivalent of a technological-push model, while the second one corresponds to the market-pull model. Research limitations/implications: The article contains preliminary research related to proposing the use of conducted research to solve important social problems. Practical implications: The article can help to establish cooperation between scientists and other institutions in using the conducted research for a new purpose of solving social problems, but also be an inspiration for further search for them by modifying or planning new research. Social implications: The development of the proposed new directions of using the conducted research may contribute to solving important social problems. This should be the role of research conducted in universities to fulfill all their missions. Originality/value: An attempt to combine the social problems of Mazovia with specific research carried out by the participants of the workshops should be considered a novelty. Many participants admitted that thanks to this workshop they were motivated to continue working on a new way of using the results of their research.

The enrichment of the society and the consumptive lifestyle caused that customers buy more and more, having different, often very high requirements as to the purchased products and services. They often do not realize that production of such products requires more and more materials, energy and other means of production. All this leads to high exploitation of the environment. Even if the resources of the natural environment are not exhaustible, they do not keep up with their rebuilding at this pace of exploitation. That is why social awareness and responsibility both of producers and customers play such an important role. They are one of the instruments needed to operate in accordance with the concept of sustainable development. The aim of the research was to examine social awareness and responsibility among customers of service enterprises. The research was conducted with the use of an online survey, which allowed to show whether the customers of such enterprises are interested in the concept of the sustainable development, if they take it into account when using various services. The need for environmental education was indicated, which could strengthen the social awareness and responsibility among Polish customers.

The level of environmental safety culture depends on many factors, including the influence of parents and the education system, the media and the quality of life. In the current Economy 4.0, globalization, increasing greenhouse effect, etc., it is the information and education system and the pro-environmental strategic actions undertaken by organizations that are beginning to play a significant role in building awareness and care for the environment. It is precisely the environmental corporate social responsibility, both of state institutions, the legislator, business entities and society (every citizen) that can significantly change the phenomenon of environmental degradation. The aim of the article is to present the essence of ecological corporate social responsibility and the activities undertaken by selected market stakeholders. The analysis carried out implies that ECSR is built through the implementation of pro-environmental stakeholder's actions, e.g. legislative changes, implementation of management systems according to ISO standards, use of renewable energy sources, etc. that aim at ensuring safety or improving the current state of the environment.
