Content available remote Simulation framework for practical cyber security training in the public service

The public service sector is a key target of cyberattacks. In order to prevent and effectively tackle such attacks, organisations should continuously develop their defence capabilities. As part of developing such capabilities, public service cybersecurity training is required to teach students about cyberattacks. The present study uses quantitative research techniques including (i) how to identify key requirements for the practical aspects of public service cybersecurity training and (ii) sampling to utilise international best practices from cybersecurity education and conceptual architectures from existing public service organisations. A schematic structure with a two-level practical training course is proposed. On the first level, the students learn about the defence mechanisms of their own info-communication devices and try to prevent attacks in a simulated environment. On the second level, the students apply protection strategies against cyberattacks in organisational infrastructure. Finally, a technical framework is defined to simulate cyberattacks against (a) personal devices and (b) a fictional organisational infrastructure. The specification of a public service cybersecurity training programme should not only focus on theoretical education but also provide practical knowledge to students. By simulating specific attacks, theoretical and practical knowledge can be combined. As a result, students will be able to recognise threats and potential risks from cyberspace.

Przekazywanie wiedzy praktycznej uczniom i studentom placówek dydaktycznych o profilu technicznym wymaga posiadania niezbędnego zaplecza laboratoryjnego. Praktyczne poznanie zjawisk pozwala skonfrontować wiedzę teoretyczną z praktyką. W referacie zaprezentowano innowacyjne laboratorium automatyki napędów robotów mobilnych, które powstało w Instytucie Budowy Maszyn Wydziału Mechanicznego WAT. Laboratorium to umożliwia zdalne nauczanie programowania sterowników PLC.

Possessing the modern labs is necessary to teaching students in technical high school and college. Practical occurrences recognition is crucial to confront knowledge with practice. This paper aims at presenting innovating automatic of mobile robot’s drive laboratory built in Institute of Mechanical Engineering (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering/Military University of Technology). This laboratory is dedicated to e-learning of PLC programming.

Jeszcze trzy lata temu uczniowie Zespołu Szkół Nr 1 w Bochni musieli podróżować do Niemiec, by zdobyć umiejętności obsługi sprzętu wysokiej klasy i zapoznać się w praktyce jak działają obrabiarki sterowane komputerowo. W latach 2008 i 2009 w szkole trwała praktyka w ramach programu Leonardo da Vinci, podczas której 20 osobowe grupy uczniów przebywały w Niemczech, ucząc się obsługi obrabiarek cyfrowych. Obecnie szkoła dysponuje obrabiarkami wysokiej klasy, a szkolenia przeprowadzane są w placówce.

Training of merchant vessels crew covers not only theoretical knowledge from a given field but also a lot of practical exercises. Simulators play a very important role here as they make it possible to create real life situations experienced at sea and the true behaviour of a vessel in different conditions. They enable demonstrating real actions taken during ship 's engine failure or during any other breakdown. Thanks to this the course participants and students can experience a variety of different situations which may happen both while operating the vessels during their routine work at sea or when something goes wrong or in distress situations. This article presents the simulators which are at Gdynia Maritime University used for training, their use and the prospective of their development. The author concentrated on presenting the significant role of simulators in the process of education and training of seafarers and officers both those from the deck and from the engine room departments. The simulator base is being constantly developed and sometimes the training employs only part of its possibilities and potential; wider use in the process of training may add a lot to increase the level of safety at sea.

Lithuania boasts a rich tradition in aeronautics and aviation. The beginning can be traced back to 1650 when Kazimieras Semenavicius, a specialist in artillery issued the work "Artis Magnae Artilleriare. Parts Prima", in which the idea of a multistage rocket was developed. The ideas of designing a flying apparatus were further advanced in the work "Samogitran Steam Plane" by the nobleman Aleksandras Griskevicius in 1843-1850, in which the idea of a man-controlled flight of an aerostat was put forward.
