Among the waste produced by municipal wastewater treatment plants, the largest technological problem is caused by the excessive sludge, the management of which consumes almost half of the costs of the entire installation. Regardless of the final disposal route, which may be, for example, reclamation of degraded areas, the the sludge derived from a wastewater treatment plant should be firstly subjected to a series of processes aimed at: reducing its volume, improving selected physical properties, recovering energy, rot preventing (stabilization) or eliminating epidemiological threats (hygenizing). These goals could be implemented using commonly known technologies, including: dewatering, liming, thermoconditioning, methanogenesis or composting. One of the alternative solutions is the use of ozonation of raw excess sludge, which, in principle, may lead to the simultaneous resolution of several above-mentioned problems, such as: drainage properties improvement, increase the bioavailability of organic matter for biogas production, as well as the removal of undesirable microorganisms. Confirmation of the hygenizing effects usually requires arduous microbiological methods; therefore, the fast and reliable tools of molecular biology could prove their usefulness in this case. In this study, the possibility of determining the dynamics of selected groups of microorganisms (including changes in total bacteria amount, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes and Actinobacteria) after sewage sludge ozonation, by using the semi-quantitative RealTime polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), wasinvestigated.

The study reported in this paper was undertaken to assess whether certain ecologically-disastrous surface treatments, such as chemical and electrochemical treatment could be replaced with ozonation. The proposed technology is both ecologically-sound and relatively inexpensive. The research works were conducted on 316L steel substrates and involved photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The band positions on the review spectrum provide the basis for the qualitative identification of the atoms forming the surface layer, whereas their intensity - data for the calculation of the total concentration of these atoms in the analysed layer. High resolution spectra are used to determine the type of chemical bonds - based on the characteristic numbers of chemical shift. The results of tests on the state of surface layer energy of 316L steel substrate following ozone treatment are also presented. The conducted tests and the analysis of the obtained results indicate that ozone treatment effectively removes atmospheric carbon contaminants off the specimen surface. The test results show a decrease in atmospheric carbon on samples after ozone treatment compared to untreated samples. Moreover, results show an increase in the value of the free surface energy in specimens subjected to ozone treatment.

Content available remote Ozone Effect On the Properties of Aramid Fabric
EN
The limitation of aramid fiber is its surface property, which results in its very poor interfacial adhesion to most of commercial resins. In order to improve the surface property of the aramid fiber, ozone treatment was carried out in this work. The aramid fabrics were evaluated in terms of surface morphology, wicking effect, tensile property, and ball bursting test. The results showed that the surface morphology of aramid fabrics did not undergo an obvious change; the wicking effect increased slightly with an increase in ozone treatment time; the tenacity and elongation of aramid fibers and fabrics did not significant change after ozone treatment, but the tenacity and elongation of aramid yarns showed significant improvement after ozone treatment, and increased with the increase of ozone treatment time; the ball bursting load and penetration displacement had a slight increase as well after ozone treatment. Therefore, ozone treatment could be one method to improve the surface property of the aramid fiber.

In this study, influence of ozone treatment on physical properties of soil was investigated. We used a quartz container for ozone treatment of soil. The amount of soil used for treatment was 100 g. Treating time was 90 minutes. Flow rate of ozone gas was 1.5 L/min. We measured characteristics of soil such as inorganic nutrient (NO3-N, NO2-N, and NH4-N), pH(H2O), fungi, DNA of soil, and exchangeable bases (Ca, K, Fe, and Al) before and after ozone treatment.

W niniejszym opracowaniu, opisano badania wpływu obróbki ozonem na własności fizyczne gleby. Do ozonowania gleby wykorzystaliśmy pojemnik kwarcowy. Ilość gleby poddanej działaniu ozonu wynosiła 100g, a czas oddziaływania 90 minut.

Numerous saprophytic and pathogenic microorganisms are associated with herbal raw materials applied in food, cosmetic and pharmacy industries. Sources of microflora, contaminating herbs and herbal spices, have been described. Possible changes in chemical composition of raw materials as well as threats for consumers have been considered. A review of decontamination methods has considered their effectiveness and safety. Among the listed chemical and physical methods, the ozone treatment seems to be the most profitable because of its effect and low burden for natural environment.

The idea of using ozone to disinfect root canals is of recent origin. The wide acceptance of epoxy resin-based sealers lead us to investigate whether ozone can influence the adhesion to the dentin. In this study, we tested the shear bond strength of AH Plus and EZ Fill. Forty freshly extracted bovine teeth were randomly divided into 5 groups. 16 of these samples were treated with ozone for 60 seconds (HealOzone, Kav)). 8 samples were conditioned with the G Bond bonding system. The groups tested were: (1) AH Plus, (2) AH Plus and ozone, (3) EZ Fill, (4) EZ Fill and ozone, (5) AH Plus and G Bond. 48 hours after being prepared the specimens were tested for shear bond strength. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between materials (AH Plus > EZ Fill) and significant, positive influence of ozone and bonding agent on the shear bond strength.
