Content available Flight Screening of Military Pilots in Poland
EN
This article diagnoses and evaluates the process of selecting and preparing candidates for military pilots in Poland. The presented changes in the screening training system are to help with understanding the principles of organizing an effective system of recruitment and selection of military pilots at present. It also indicates directions for improvement. The organization of initial flight screening contributes to improving the efficiency of flight training and can serve as a model for use by flight training systems in other countries. The purpose of the article is to diagnose and evaluate recruitment and selection of candidates for military pilots in Polish Armed Forces. The problem that the author addresses is expressed in the following question: in what directions should the current solutions in the selection and training of candidates for military pilots, be improved in order to reduce the attrition rate at subsequent stages of flight training in the future? The research has been conducted at the Military University of Aviation using case study methods. The theoretical research methods, such as analysis and synthesis of information contained in literature and source materials, conclusions and comparison were used to develop the article. In order to confirm the conclusions drawn with the use of theoretical methods, an empirical method was used, which consisted in examining the opinions with the use of expert interviews. Experts were selected from the group of commanders of training units and military pilots involved in selection training, who had an impact on the applicable aviation training and recruitment system in Polish Armed Forces. The results shows main directions of military pilots initial flight screening improvement.

This paper presents method of flight simulations for released laser guided bomb. Calculations were performed using six-degrees-of-freedom mathematical model of a bomb motion. Aerodynamics of the bomb was calculated using commercial software. Control laws were determined on the basis of signals detected by two pairs of laser sensors. Exemplary results of numerical calculations are submitted and conclusions focused on the main factors influencing on bombing accuracy are shown.

W pracy przedstawiono metodę symulacji lotu bomby sterowanej laserowo.

Testy wykonywano w warunkach laboratoryjnych (symulacje systemu BSP1 w trybie hardware in the loop), jak również w warunkach polowych.

The work presents the portable system of both micro and mini class capable of planning and monitoring unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) mission. The system consists of a portable microcomputer characterized by high environmental resistance, keypads, dedicated software developed by the authors of the paper, a directional antenna positioner (or video recorder), telemetry systems, meteorological stations as well as power systems. The system description was supplemented by the presentation of processes of design, implementation and testing of the integrated system of operator’s interfaces. The tests were carried out in laboratory environment (simulations of the UAV system in the loop hardware mode), as well as in the field conditions. The field tests were carried out in adverse weather, with the ambient temperature of -5˚C, wind gusts of up to approximately 60 km/h and a weak snowfall. The flight control station was tested during flights performed in manual mode (with control via radio and Ground Flight Control Station manipulator), in the mode with selected flights parameters stabilised as well as in autonomous flights. The conducted tests were documented in the form of photographs, film as well as record of parameters of UAV system performance (through flight data recorder and Ground Flight Control Station recorder).

Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) are miniature airplanes constructed from state-of-the-art materials, designed to be small, light, and highly resilient. Current applications include surveillance, reconnaissance, and munitions. Many of the planes, because of their size, have unconventional designs with respect to the wings and control surfaces. Instability introduced by the small non-traditional aircraft designs must be addressed, to eliminate the need for an expert pilot for aircraft control and navigation. In this paper we present a state-of-the-art technology development focused on the technologies and components required to enable flight at small scales, including flight control, power and propulsion, navigation, multi-purpose structures, advanced communications and information systems, Micro-electro-mechanical Systems (MEMS), advanced sensors, and lightweight, efficient high-density power sources.

There are many tasks associated with flight control for modern and advanced aircraft including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which are nor solved (or solved very unsatisfactorily) with traditional roots. It has been recognized in recent years that we are needed intelligent control systems. We can define the general characteristics of intelligent control systems as having an ability to emulate human capabilities, such as planning, learning and adaptation. Four kinds (hierarchical levels) of adaptation are distinguished and analyzed: parametrical adaptation (adjustment, self-adjustment): structural adaptation (reconfiguration and/or restructuring); object adaptation (correction of system composition); goal adaptation (adjustment of demands).

The paper presents the results of numerical analysis of the sensitivity of aircraft flight control carried out on a mathematical model chosen. The control is designed using the non-linear inverse dynamics method. Non-linear control laws have been synthesised for wing rock stabilisation. As an example the numerical simulation of a controlled motion is carried out employing the aerodynamic and mass data of the F-16 aircraft.

There are many problems associated with flight control for modem and advanced aircraft which are not solved (or solved very unsatisfactorily) with traditional tools. It has been recognized in recent years, that to realize more flexible and effective control systems it is necessary to combine other elements, such as logic, reasoning, heuristics etc., with the algorithmic techniques provided by conventional control theory, and such systems have come to be known as intelligent control systems. Research in the intelligent control field are based on soft computing methods and tools, including artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and some others. The goal of the report is to discuss and analyse capabilities of intelligent control methods and tools according mainly to flight control requirements.
