Purpose: The purpose of the paper was to investigate the relationship between the applied project management methodologies and the perception of the employer's brand attractiveness. In addition, an attempt was made to identify the variability of this relationship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: Empirical research was conducted to verify the existence of the predicted relationship and to reach the aim of the paper. The set of hypotheses was built based on the theoretical research and then verified in two differently constructed research (the study was conducted using the CAWI method) on two separate samples of respondents: 92 students (potential employees) and 81 employees working on projects in organizations operating in Poland. The calculations were made using the PS Imago Pro ver. 7.0 and Process macro for SPSS ver. 4.1 by Andrew F. Hayes. Findings: It has been shown that the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic did not directly affect the perception of the employer's brand attractiveness, but it is a moderator of the relationship between the applied project management methodologies and the attractiveness of the employer's brand. However, although the authors found the basic relationship true for both groups of respondents, the moderating effect is valid only for a group of employees. Research limitations/implications: The analysis is based on a limited number of cases in particular groups. In order to generalize the results in future research larger samples can be collected. There is also space to search for factors explaining why and under what conditions the type of project management methodology affects the attractiveness of the employer's brand. Practical implications: The obtained results contribute to the practice of management, showing that among the various groups of factors determining the attractiveness of the employer's brand, the attributes of the work processes (which include also the selection of project management methodology) are important as well. Organizations that apply agile project management methodologies can be more attractive to employees, especially in times of crisis and attract the more qualified specialists in the industry. Thus emphasizing the use of agile project management methodologies can be part of an employer's branding strategy shaping. Originality/value: The research makes an important contribution to the body of human resources and project management literature by demonstrating COVID-19 as a significant moderator for the relationship between the applied project management methodologies and the attractiveness of the employer's brand.

Purpose: ESG risk management and adapting to decarbonization requirements are among the key challenges European industrial enterprises will face in the upcoming decade. Addressing this challenge will involve the significant role of new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. This article discusses research aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of a system utilizing artificial intelligence for risk management in the process of managing ESG goals. Design/methodology/approach: In order to achieve the intended goal, the following research questions were formulated: Does the implemented system support the realization of ESG objectives in the studied organization, and would these objectives be achieved without implementing an AI-supported ESG risk management system? The research was conducted in a petrochemical sector company using qualitative methods (systematic literature review, case study description, self-observation and participant observation, informal interviews with selected system users). Due to the qualitative nature of the research, according to the methodology, no research hypotheses were formulated. Both the purpose of the research and the content of the above-mentioned issues indicate that they fit into the functional-systemic paradigm. Findings: The analysis of research results indicates that the ESG risk management system based on artificial intelligence algorithms contributes significantly to the realization of ESG objectives in the studied organization. Additionally, managing the ESG risk in the organization is possible without implementing a system supporting this process, however, the effectiveness of such actions is limited significantly. Research limitations/implications: Limitations result from the adopted research method. The systematic literature review, despite following the procedure derived from management and quality sciences, may be incomplete. Cited studies were conducted in various organizations and cultures. The case study description does not apply to every organization. Furthermore, self-observation as a method may be burdened with subjectivity, resulting from, among other things, the researcher's experiences. Practical implications: Among technologies with the highest potential for managing risks in the ESG area, particularly in the context of decarbonization, artificial intelligence undoubtedly stands out. AI has the most significant impact on the digitalization of the economy, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, the Green Deal, and the Paris Agreement. At present, shift work is evaluated from the carriers’ perspective as employers. Therefore, the purpose of the article is to outline the characteristics of an innovative software application that would enable human resource managers to take railway workers’ satisfaction or the difficulty of a job into account when creating shift plans. This article includes an overview of the prevailing methods of handling railway shift worker scheduling and a list and description of the empirical methods for creating shifts. Next, the consideration given to the interests and preferences of employees regarding shift types is described. We then outline possible changes, especially changes utilizing mathematical formulas. These patterns and considerations are verified through actual shifts and questionnaires distributed to a select group of employees. An actual shift of conductors at the Czech national carrier České dráhy is chosen for the case study. Finally, a proposal of a software system that takes employee preferences into account and permits the scheduling of blocks of free days is described. From the development point of view, the aim of this software is to achieve maximum satisfaction after subjective requirements are considered, thus ensuring, from the human resource management perspective, a higher degree of railway employees’ satisfaction, leading to better quality services and improved rail transport.

Cel: Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja tych zadań, jakie mogą realizować osoby zarządzające, aby utrzymywać zaangażowanie pracowników. Projekt badania/metodyka badawcza/koncepcja: Podstawową metodą był przegląd literatury. Został on przeprowadzony zgodnie z metodologią badawczą zaproponowaną przez J. W. Creswella. Dotychczasowe badania były przeprowadzone w różnych organizacjach i w różnych kulturach. Zastosowanie praktyczne: Wnioski z przeglądu doczasowych badań mogą mieć praktyczne zastosowania w procesie kształtowania i podtrzymywania zaangażowania pracowników. Oryginalność/wartość poznawcza: Dokonany przegląd artykułów wykazał, że brakuje opracowania ukazującego, w jaki sposób - realizując szczegółowe wymagania systemu zarządzania jakością - można kształtować zaangażowanie.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the tasks that managers can carry out in order to maintain employee engagement. Design/methodology/approach: The primary method was a literature review. It was conducted in accordance with the research methodology proposed by J. W. Creswell. In the process of analysing the findings of the research, the cause-and-effect concept was adopted. Findings/conclusions: Top management should strive for the highest possible level of the organisational values that foster commitment (primarily trust and fairness), set ambitious (exceeding slightly the available capacities) and attractive quality objectives, provide support to all employees in the performance of their tasks and in other situations that require it, identify the resources needed for processes and ensure their availability, and be mindful of the proper allocation of social, technical and economic resources. Further research should focus on demonstrative and anticipatory commitment. Research limitations: A limitation arises from the adopted scope of the research. The research assumptions are directly related to the structure of the ISO 9001 standard, and especially the criteria of leadership and commitment. The adopted method of literature review is not a perfect way to obtain information. Previous research has been conducted in different organisations and in different cultures. Practical implications: The findings of the review of the previous research on the subject may have practical applications in the process of shaping and sustaining employee commitment. Originality/value: The conducted review shows that there is a lack of publications showing how employee engagement can be shaped by implementing the specific requirements of a quality management system.
