The Lubrański Academy on cathedral island, in Ostrów Tumski in Poznań, which is now the headquarters of the Archdiocesan Museum, was a place of cultural, artistic, educational, scientific and charitable activities based on Christian values. The necessity of creating an integrative space in the centre of Poznań spirituality, coherent with the Academy’s historic building, corresponding to the genius loci, friendly to people and god creatures – our lesser brothers, has resulted in a design concept of Lubrański Gardens. This article discusses the idea, design assumptions, composition, functionality, symbolism of the garden concept and its partial realisation.

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to illustrate the broad cultural context affecting the economy and the consequences of economic development in the natural environment and social development. Design/methodology/approach: The method chosen was the analysis of literature on the subject in Polish, English and Chinese language. Findings: The article presents the ancient Chinese point of view on the idea of harmony between a human being and the nature, as well as the reasons behind the origin of the People’s Republic of China’s direction towards sustainable development. It is influenced by both the imbalance between economic growth and environmental degradation, as well as social challenges. Originality/value: The paper shows and explains the main problems faced by the economic development, as well as the roots of socio-economic behavior on a cultural basis.

In running the sustainability of a business, Balinese Indonesia depends on a philosophy of Tri Hita Karana (three causes of well-being) guiding people to live harmoniously with others as well as their surroundings. This principle makes Bali become the most competitive and distinctive tourism business compared to other parts of Indonesia. However, the eroding market position and massive expansion of international hotel chains force the indigenous businessman to look insight from outside to maintain the business sustainability. The main objective of this study is to examine a broadercomprehensive view ofhow the company identifiessustainability impetus without neglecting the right practices and values prevalent among Balinese Indonesia.Experimental data have been acquired from native ethnic specialists and organization influential executives. The results indicate that from an internal perspective, the responsive leaderis the most determinant force.In contrast, from an external perspective, the most significant factor is the company’sdistinction. The study combines both company’s sustainability impetus from inside and outside organization and how the cultural values affect these drivers. Since cultural identity has strategic importance in Bali tourism, it is necessary to revitalize TriHita Karanaculture’s application related to strategy formulation and implementation in the hotel industry to gain a competitive advantage as well as organizational performance.

Zrównoważony rozwój firm, Balijska Indonezja opiera się na filozofii Tri Hita Karana (trzy przyczyny dobrego samopoczucia), która prowadzi ludzi do harmonijnego życia z innymi, a także z otoczeniem. Ta zasada sprawia, że Bali staje się najbardziej konkurencyjnym i wyróżniającym się biznesem turystycznym w porównaniu do innych części Indonezji. Jednak niszcząca pozycja rynkowa i masowa ekspansja międzynarodowych sieci hoteli zmuszają rdzennych biznesmenów do szukania wglądu z zewnątrz w celu utrzymania stabilności biznesu. Głównym celem tego badania jest zbadanie szerszego, kompleksowego poglądu na to, w jaki sposób firma identyfikuje impuls zrównoważonego rozwoju, nie zaniedbując właściwych praktyk i wartości panujących wśród balijskiej Indonezji. Dane badawcze zostały uzyskane od rodzimych specjalistów etnicznych i wpływowych organizacji. Wyniki wskazują, że z perspektywy wewnętrznej reagujący lider jest najbardziej determinującą siłą, natomiast z perspektywy zewnętrznej najbardziej znaczącym czynnikiem jest rozróżnienie firmy. Badanie łączy w sobie impuls firmy zarówno w organizacji, jak i poza nią, oraz wpływ wartości kulturowych na te czynniki. Ponieważ tożsamość kulturowa ma strategiczne znaczenie w turystyce na Bali, konieczna jest rewitalizacja aplikacji Tri Hita Karanaculture związanej z formułowaniem i wdrażaniem strategii w branży hotelarskiej, aby uzyskać przewagę konkurencyjną, a także wyniki organizacyjne.

Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniu harmonii oraz jej wagi w komunikacji o chińskim charakterze. Celem głównym, prócz powyższego, jest uwrażliwienie Europejczyków i Chińczyków na różnice w postrzeganiu istoty harmonii. Autorka poprzez analizę przykładów, będących efektem wywiadów przeprowadzonych wśród obcokrajowców zatrudnionych w Chińskiej Republice Ludowej w 2009 i 2017 r., oraz literatury przedmiotu przybliża kategorię harmonii z punktu widzenia mieszkańców Polski/Europy oraz obywateli ChRL. Wymienione w artykule przykłady ukazują m.in., iż nie każdy mieszkaniec ChRL zachowuje się pro-harmonijnie, w polskim/europejskim tego słowa znaczeniu, na co wpływ ma odmienne definiowanie pojęcia harmonii i harmonijnych relacji.

This article describes the challenges and importance of harmony in Chinese communication. The main purpose, in addition to the above mentioned, is to raise awareness in European and Chinese society of the differences in the perception of the nature of harmony. Based on the interviews performed with foreigners living in China in 2009 and 2017, and the literature review, the author approaches the different sides of harmony from the point of view of Poles/ Europeans and citizens of the People's Republic of China. The mentioned examples show, among others, that not every citizen of the PRC behaves pro-harmoniously in the Polish/ European sense, what is influenced with the different definition of the concept of harmony and harmonious relations.

Shunt active power filters (SAPFs) are modern filtering technologies for source current harmonic elimination and source reactive power compensation of nonlinear loads. In the case of normally balanced source voltages, the SAPFs are controlled to eliminate a wide range of source current harmonics and compensate the source reactive power generated by non-linear loads to provide source current functions with maximum power factor. However, if source voltages are unbalanced and/or distorted, these control objectives cannot be achieved, which impacts the SAPFs performances. In the present paper, we propose a new modification to extend the stable dynamic range and to enhance the transient response of a classical phase locked loop (CPLL). An enhanced phase locked loop (EPLL) based on a self tuning filter (STF) and fuzzy logic control (FLC) associated with SRF theory are used in four leg shunt active power filter control under unbalanced source voltages and nonlinear loads. The aim is to enable the SAPFs to reach a higher compensation level of reactive power and current harmonics for all cases of source voltages and nonlinear loads for the limits specified in IEEE Std. 519. The success, robustness, and effectiveness of proposed control circuits are demonstrated through simulation, using Sim Power Systems and S-Function of MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Designing of power system stabilizer based on the root locus method with lead-lag controller and comparing it with PI controller in multi-machine power system

This paper presents a method for designing a multi-machine power system stabilizer. The conventional design technique using a single machine infinite bus approximation involves a frequency response estimation called GEP(s). Frequency response is estimated between the input AVR and electrical output torque. The power system stabilizer is designed by frequency response and based on the root locus method to improve the damping of oscillatory modes. By using this method, we can adjust the structure of the PSS compensator and its parameters in the multi-machine system and it does not need to know the equivalent reactance of output and voltage of the infinite bus or the other estimations in every machine. In the proposed method, information available at the high voltage bus of the step-up transformer is used to set up a modified Heffron-Phillips model. Finally, this method is examined on three test systems. Simulation results indicate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Electric traction vehicles cooperating with a 3kV DC traction system and equipped with drive systems based on voltage source inverters are the most significant sources of disturbances for a railway signalling system. Every traction vehicle to be authorised for operation on railway lines must fulfil the limits imposed on current harmonics magnitudes and those provided by railway operators. The solution introduced for prototypes of most modern traction drives is to replace the two-level inverters with three-level topology. Therefore, it is essential to establish the influence of the new solution on the railway signalling system. This paper presents a comparative analysis between simulation results delivered for two and three-level traction drive system regarding generation of disturbing current harmonics. Two types of VSI modulation techniques were taken under consideration: sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) and a new one, proposed by the authors, based on selective harmonic elimination (SHE). Furthermore, the authors presented application of one of the SHE based optimization techniques for shaping the EMU’s (electric multiple unit) DC side input current harmonics spectrum in order to meet the required limits. The described technique is based on off-line generation of a set of solutions for each of the VSI operating points and selection of the best solution for the assumed criteria. The applied simulation models and the concept of SHE control were verified in a laboratory by means of a low-power drive stand. Using the three-level inverter in traction drives system results in less current harmonics than using two-level topology without modification of the modulation technique. Thus, it does not guarantee fulfilling all limits assumed in this paper. The proposed modulation technique allows for fulfilling the limits, and the technical implementation of the proposed technique in a traction drive system will be considered in future studies.

Na tle analiz pojęcia kompozycji urbanistyczno-architektonicznej, przedstawiono sześć autorskich i współautorskich przykładów realizacyjnych, w aspekcie tejże kompozycji urbanistyczno-architektonicznej. Pojęcie i twórcze wdrożenia wspólnego traktowania kompozycji urbanistycznej i architektonicznej, jako syntezy kreatywnego kształtowania przestrzeni, jest jednym z ważnych osiągnięć naukowych, praktycznych i dydaktycznych szkoły krakowskiej, usytuowanej w Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej. Z tą szkołą identyfikuje się autor artykułu, zarazem autor zaprezentowanych poglądów i zrealizowanych koncepcji projektowych. Zaprezentowane przykłady ukazują staranie, aby kompozycja budowli architektonicznych była sprzężona i skoordynowana z kompozycją otaczającego kontekstu miejskiego i przyczyniała się do świadomego upiększenia miasta.

The article illustrates six implemented designs of architectural and urban composition which were either designed by the author individually or in a team, against a backdrop of an analysis of the term "urban and architectural composition". The very term and the creative implementation of architectural and urban composition as a synthesis of shaping space in a creative manner is one of the more important scientific, practical and didactic achievements of the Kraków school of urban design, based at the Faculty of Architecture of the Kraków University of Technology. The author of this essay, the opinions that it contains, as well as of the design concepts that it is based upon identifies himself as a member of this school. The examples that are listed in the article carefully illustrate the importance of the fact that the composition of buildings should be closely tied to and coordinated with the composition of the surrounding urban context and lead to a conscious improvement in the aesthetics of the city.

Over the centuries, the residential development, regardless of cubature or location stood out in the landscape through form, color or composition layout. Works of construction or architecture unique for the selected area, in which they became were its determinant, identifier. Becoming a part of the cultural landscape the building development affects the visual perception and provides the identity of the place. The cited in the article the Troad region also has a clear differentiator, which is a local rock material. With it, not only the space transformed by man but also the natural landscape are characterized by the local coloring, which is identified with a specific location.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono przesłanki sprzyjające oszczędnemu rozwojowi przestrzennemu Szczecina. Racjonalny rozwój miasta to między innymi kolejność zabudowy poszczególnych obszarów. To mogłoby być realizowane przez sporządzanie harmonogramów dotyczących udostępniania poszczególnych obszarów. Oszczędności należałoby szukać w infrastrukturze komunikacyjnej. Wykorzystanie inteligentnej sygnalizacji kierującej natężeniem ruchu, dróg i kanałów wodnych jako uzupełnienie transportu publicznego, budowanie obwodnic miejskich, to tylko niektóre możliwości stworzenia miast "czystych" i bez obecnie nadmiernego hałasu motoryzacyjnego.

This paper presents conditions in spatial development of Szczecin, to be able to call it 'economical' city. The rational city development is also a sequence of developing different areas. It should be realized by preparation of schedules for activation of different areas. The savings should be found in communication infrastructure. Using an intelligent traffic lights to control traffic density on roads and water channels as support for public transportation, construction of new bypasses - these are only some possibilities to create so called 'clean' cities without increased noise level from communication.

Jeśli przesłanie Witruwiusza przetrwało 2000 lat, to nie dzięki opisom archaicznych technik budowania, tylko dzięki temu, że rozszerzył on swoje rozważania na wątki filologiczne i na mity, na geometrię, na proporcje i na stosunki liczb. Kontynuując tradycję ateńską, stworzył cyfrowy, modularny system proporcji, odniesiony do proporcji ciała ludzkiego, wywodząc z niego zasadę eurytmii, czyniącej całość kompozycji harmonijną, o proporcjach pełnych wdzięku.

If Vitruvius' message has lasted 2,000 years, it is not for his descriptions of archaic construction methods, but for his reflections, encompassing philology, myths, geometry, proportions and ratios between numbers. Continuing the Athenian tradition, he created a numerical, modular system of proportions, based on those of human body, and deduced what he called eurythmia, which makes the whole composition harmonious and graceful in its proportions.
