In this paper, a comparative analysis of structural materials used in the construction of high-pressure pumps delivery sections was carried out. The focus was on a comparison of the ceramic materials such as corundum (alumina, Al2O3) and silicon carbide (solid-state sintered) - SSiC with bearing alloy steel 100Cr6, that is the most common material used to make pistons and cylinders of the delivery section of common rail injection pumps. Simulations performed using the finite element method have proven that ceramic materials have a number of advantages and could therefore be an interesting substitute for materials traditionally used in this area.

Purpose: The aim of the work was to test the contact stresses in the model system of the turbine hub cooperating with the fuel pump drive shaft. The hypothesis of the work was that, by means of FEA, it is possible to assess the contact stresses in the materials of the turbine hub and the fuel pump shaft during torque transmission. Design/methodology/approach: A turbine with fibre-reinforced polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) composite cooperating with a stainless steel shaft (X46Cr13/1.4034) in a commonly used D-flat shape joint was selected for the experimental research. To assess contact stresses, the CAD model (NX, Siemens) of the entire turbine was limited to the hub area. The drive shaft is supported in accordance with the bearing in the fuel pump, and the possibility of rotation about the axis along the length of the torque-producing magnet is taken away. The system was loaded with a torque of 200 Nmm on the turbine. The turbine hub and shaft were calculated, taking into account the phenomenon of contact detachment or slip at the value of the friction coefficient of 0.1. Findings: The pressure transmission area was found in the area at the edge of the flat surface D-flat and on the opposite side of the D-convexity. The contact stresses on the D-flat side reached values close to the composite strength. Research limitations/implications: The studies did not take into account the technological inaccuracies, thermal deformation, local material properties, and wear. The value of the friction coefficient was not measured in realistic conditions with fuel lubrication. Practical implications: FEA has been achieved, which allows to reduce the cost of experimental research. Originality/value: The proposed model allows for further studies of the influence of elasticity of various materials and structures on contact stresses in order to assess wear resistance.

The paper presents an analysis of the possibility of using a common rail pump to supply an aircraft compression-ignition engine. It is an engine with a two-stroke cycle, three cylinders, opposing pistons and 100 kW power. Its each combustion chamber is supply by one or two injectors controlled by electromagnetic valves. In order to assess the possibility of using a common rail pump, four high-pressure pumps were tested on a bench. They are piston pumps differing in the number and geometry of their pumping sections. The analysis included the pumping output, the torque on the pump drive shaft and the power needed to drive the pump. The weight and overall dimensions of the pump were also considered, including the arrangement of the pumping sections and the way the drive is transmitted. The research allowed to optimize the engine power supply system depending on fuel demand and the way the pump is mounted on the engine.

Due to systematic reduction of he permissible levels of harmful and toxic substances in the exhaust gases, particulary of which particulate matter appears to be unfavorable, there is a continuing need to improve the fuel injection parameters. One of the factors determining the correct fuel injection is the injection pressure, which strongly depends on the design of the common-rail pump. This article presents the latest common-rail pump solutions for automotive vehicles and prototype constructions in terms of improved system efficiency and reliability. The latest pump solutions utilize one pumping section and allows to inject pressure up to 3000 bar, while synchronizing the delivery phase with the fuel injection phase. In the further development of the injection systems, hybrid solutions are expected to form a combination of unit injector and common rail systems.

Najnowsze rozwiązania pomp common-rail wykorzystują jedną sekcję tłoczącą i pozwalają na osiągnięcie ciśnienia wtrysku do 3000 barów, umożliwiając jednocześnie synchronizację fazy tłoczenia z fazą wtrysku paliwa. Jako jeden z dalszych etapów rozwoju prognozuje się wykorzystanie układów hybrydowych, łączących zalety systemów typu common-rail oraz unit injector system.

The proposal of fuel system for a particular airliner is a highly complex process, where all design requirements for the entire fuel system as well as individual components contained therein must be satisfied. And, it is also to show compliance with standards and regulations that determine the size parameters of the system. Nowadays at the design of these systems are increasingly being used tools of simulation software. With these tools it is possible to verify the properties a highly-complex nonlinear systems such as that aircraft fuel system.

This paper presents the research of faults of high-pressure fuel pumps (HPFP) as the main units of fuel equipment having influence on ifs reliability. Based by example of distributive-type ram HPFP-s, produced in Vilnius (Lithuania), there were examined the main indications of such failures and in accordance with the Waybull 's distribution law thwere were determined distributions of frequency of the random failures. Histogram of distribution of the random value, differential function and diagram of failure distribution of the HPFP-s are also presented.
