Laboratoryjnie ustalono skład okrywy, wysokość i długość włosów oraz ich wzajemny stosunek dla czterech typów anatomicznych oraz stosunek wysokości i długości obu warstw okrywy. Lanametrem zmierzono grubość włosów i ich rdzenia, ustalono rdzenistość włosów i procentową zawartość cystyny. Po kolejnych kwadransach wytrząsania prób owłosienia, za pomocą testera filcu firmy Rosink, ustalono kształt i wielkość bryły filcowanej masy włosów, a po godzinie precyzyjnie wymierzono jej wielkość. Okazało się, że cechy struktury okrywy włosowej w różnym stopniu wpływają na jej filcowanie się.

The laboratory analysis included determination of the percentages of four anatomic types of hair, their height and length, the height to length ratio, the height and length ratios of underhair to overcoat hair. Mean diameters of hair and medulla (using a lanameter) and the percentage of medulla in the hair, the content of cistine were determined. After subsequent quarters of an hour of shaking the polar fox fur samples in the Rosink felt tester, the shape and size of felt lump of hair was determined and after full hours its size was precisely measured. It turned out that the felt density was different in polar foxes with various coat traits.

Celem pracy było ustalenie podatności na filcowanie się okrywy włosowej lisów polarnych, u których zjawisko to jest znaczącym problemem. Po kolejnych kwadransach wytrząsania prób owłosienia lisów polarnych, za pomocą testera filcu firmy Rosink, ustalono kształt i wielkość bryły filcowanej masy włosów, a po godzinie precyzyjnie wymierzono jej wielkość. Służyło to do obliczeń gęstości filcu powstałego z prób okrywy włosowej. Okazało się, że gęstość filcu prób włosowych różnych grup lisów polarnych była zróżnicowana.

The aim of the work was to determine the susceptibility to felting of hair cover of the polar fox (Alopex lagopus L.) which constitutes a significant problem. After subsequent quarters of an hour of shaking the polar fox fur samples in the Rosink felt tester, the shape and size of felt lump of hair was determined and after full hour its size was precisely measured. The results of the measurement were used to calculate density of the felt made from the hair cover samples. It turned out that the felt density was different in various polar fox groups.
