Influence of heating and ventilation modes on the energy consumption of university educational buildings under quarantine conditions in Ukraine

The global pandemic COVID-19 caused Ukrainian institutions continued their work in a blended learning mode or completely switched to remote mode. The paper analyzes the university educational building energy consumption for the heating season under quarantine and normal conditions. Building dynamic energy model in the DesignBuilder software was created. According to the results of modeling partial use of the building during quarantine allows to reduce the consumption of heat energy by 61.32%. Simultaneously the specific heat energy consumption of separated heated rooms increases by 68.86% under the influence of heat exchange with unused premises.

The article considers the peculiarities of the architectural organization of children's preschool institutions in European countries on the example of Germany and Ukraine in the 20th century. The study examines examples of architectural design of preschool institutions in the dense urban development of foreign cities, which are of particular importance for further solving of domestic problems of preschool institutions location in Ukrainian urban settlements. The considered projects demonstrate individual design decisions of kindergartens with revealing of regional features and local traditions of the countries which at the same time correspond to modern educational programs of these countries and reflect the advanced world tendencies in designing of children's preschool institutions.

Feasibility of computerized adaptive testing evaluated by Monte-Carlo and post-hoc simulations

Computerized adaptive testing (CAT) is a modern alternative to classical paper and pencil testing. CAT is based on an automated selection of optimal item corresponding to current estimate of test-taker's ability, which is in contrast to fixed predefined items assigned in linear test. Advantages of CAT include lowered test anxiety and shortened test length, increased precision of estimates of test-takers' abilities, and lowered level of item exposure thus better security. Challenges are high technical demands on the whole test work-flow and need of large item banks. In this study, we analyze feasibility and advantages of computerized adaptive testing using a Monte-Carlo simulation and posthoc analysis based on a real linear admission test administrated at a medical college. We compare various settings of the adaptive test in terms of precision of ability estimates and test length. We find out that with adaptive item selection, the test length can be reduced to 40 out of 100 items while keeping the precision of ability estimates within the prescribed range and obtaining ability estimates highly correlated to estimates based on complete linear test (Pearson’s ρ = 0.96). We also demonstrate positive effect of content balancing and item exposure rate control on item composition.

Wypadki osób znajdujących się pod opieką szkół, przedszkoli i innych placówek nie doczekały się do tej pory dogłębnej analizy badawczej. Jeżeli przyjrzymy się danym, to możemy stwierdzić, że wypadkom ulega ponad 1% osób znajdujących się pod opieką szkół (placówek). Niestety wśród tych wypadków mamy również śmiertelne i ciężkie. W ciągu ostatnich 6 lat szkolnych (2010/11-2015/16) doszło do śmierci 188 osób, a wypadkom ciężkim uległo 1269 osób. Dane te wskazują, że należy zwiększyć działania wszystkich zainteresowanych stron mające na celu poprawę bezpieczeństwa w szkołach i placówkach w Polsce.

To date accidents on the premises of schools and other educational institutions, during the course of school activities have not been analysed thoroughly. Data show that over 1% of people under the care of schools (educational institutions) are involved in accidents. Unfortunately, fatal and serious accidents are not excluded. In the past 6 school years (2010/11-2015/16), 188 people died and 1269 had serious accidents. These data suggest that improvement in safety on the premises of schools and other educational.

Reklamowanie wyższych uczelni pośród kandydatów na studia nie jest proste. Działalność edukacyjną zalicza się mianowicie w marketingu do usług, a promocja tego typu produktów okazuje się na ogół znacznie trudniejsza od lansowania towarów. Powód wydaje się oczywisty: o ile pokazanie tych ostatnich w reklamach i przeprowadzenie wizualnej prezentacji ich awantaży jest łatwe, usługi jako dobra niematerialne (a zwłaszcza usługi edukacyjne) trudno jest fotografować, filmować, a nawet opisywać w sposób przekonujący. Stanowi to przyczynę, dla której reklamy większości wyższych uczelni są tak mało skuteczne i jednocześnie tak bardzo do siebie podobne. W prawie wszystkich z nich wychwalani są doskonali wykładowcy, miła atmosfera na uczelni i ciekawe zajęcia dydaktyczne: tylko jak przekonać o tym kandydatów na studia? Warszawska filia paryskiej szkoły Institut Français de Gestion była historycznie pierwszą działającą w Polsce placówką edukacyjną która wprowadziła program Master of Business Administration już w roku 1990. Po kilku latach funkcjonowania zaczęła ona konstatować rosnącą presję konkurentów polskich 1 jednocześnie stopniową erozję skuteczności tradycyjnych działań reklamowych. Zapadła więc decyzja o rozpoczęciu poszukiwań nowego narzędzia marketingowego. Ostatecznie okazały się nim turnieje oparte na elektronicznych symulatorach zarządzania firmą. Te aplikacje komputerowe są szeroko stosowane w wielu instytucjach akademickich. Pozwalają one studentom zarządzać wirtualnymi przedsiębiorstwami, konkurującymi z innymi firmami kierowanymi przez ich kolegów i działającymi na tym samym rynku. W tych grach biznesowych komputer jest zazwyczaj całkowicie pasywny i jego rola ogranicza się do przeprowadzania obliczeń. Gracze komputerowi działają okresami (czasem nazywanymi cyklami albo etapami), które odpowiadają poszczególnym latom (albo innym okresom) działania przedsiębiorstwa. Zazwyczaj tych okresów jest od 5 do 10 i prowadzą one do końcowego ekranu, na którym porównuje się wyniki różnych konkurentów i wyłania zwycięzcę.

The article presents an idea of the internet games application to advertise university. Example of such a game is described. It was applied several times in previous years to attract candidates for postgraduate studies with positive result. Advantages and selected results are also revealed.

Stamp detection in scanned documents

The article presents current challenges in stamp detection problem. It is a crucial topic these days since more and more traditional paper documents are being scanned in order to be archived, sent through the net or just printed. Moreover, an electronic version of paper document stored on a hard drive can be taken as forensic evidence of possible crime. The main purpose of the method presented in the paper is to detect, localize and segment stamps (imprints) from the scanned document. The problem is not trivial since there is no such thing like stamp standard. There are many variations in size, shape, complexity and ink color. It should be remembered that the scanned document may be degraded in quality and the stamp can be placed on a relatively complicated background. The algorithm consists of several steps: color segmentation and pixel classification, regular shapes detection, candidates segmentation and verification. The paper includes also the initial results of selected experiments on real documents having different types of stamps.
