Purpose: This paper aims to analyse and discuss well-being initiatives undertaken by companies during the pandemic. Well-being is considered an overall subjective evaluation of an individual's life, including three main areas: psychological (ability to cope with stressors and stay in a positive mood), physical (good health, fitness, beauty, sleep) and social (positive relationships, support). It influences work satisfaction, motivation and performance. Design/methodology/approach: The applied method was a case study analysis. 21 companies and 105 well-being interventions were investigated in terms of the type, frequency, expected outcomes, implementation process, measurement methods and cooperation with employees. Findings: Results show that the most common are interventions in mental health and physical activity improvements as well as building positive relationships between employees working remotely. Interventions usually suit the employees' needs; however, well-being and intervention effectiveness are not very well measured and investigated in a study sample. More reliable and evidence-based methods of implementation of well-being management are needed. Research limitations/implications: A certain limitation may be the deliberate selection of the research sample – only companies operating in Poland were included in the study, which excludes generalisation of the results obtained. Practical implications: Building a culture of well-being in an organisation should not be based on random, ad hoc activities, but rather on a long-term strategy in which both employees, leaders and managers play an important role. Originality/value: The described research results prove that a large group of entrepreneurs in the country has entered the phase of business maturity and appreciate the role and importance of the organisational culture in terms of well-being at work during a difficult period of the pandemic. The article may be especially useful for HR managers and HR business partners.

This is the first scientific research studying the impact of worklife factors on executives’ psychological health by gender. The study has a particular focus on the factors of ‘Community’ and ‘Work-life balance’. Survey data were collected from N=481 senior executives to measure seven worklife factors and psychological health. Standardized regression analysis was performed for each worklife in a regression model predicting psychological health by gender. Results showed significant differences between female and male senior executives in the profiles of seven worklife factors in terms of their relationship with psychological health. ‘Work life balance’ was the strongest predictor of female executives’ psychological health, ‘Values’ for male executives’ psychological health. ‘Community’ showed similar levels of association for both women and men. This research addresses the literature gap of large-scale, quantitative investigations into the psychology of senior executives. The results can be applied as a guide for organizational design, executive training and development programs accounting for differences by gender.

In the competitive business environment, the managerial style that makes up the psychosocial environment in the organization can be the key to increasing employee outcomes. Analyzing the psychological and behavioral profile of engineers provides practical solutions to address a particular managerial style that fits into this socio-professional category. Adapting management to the needs of employees brings a new organizational paradigm, namely the learning organization, as opposed to trying to limit relations to Procust’s Bed. A managerial style tailored to the personal needs of employees can increase their well-being and, implicitly, increase productivity. The research concludes that managerial behavior tailored to the personality of the engineers is based on assertive communication, oriented both to tasks and relationships. It is desirable for the manager to show a practical, organizational and goal-oriented spirit.

Inside the buildings we spend most of our time, therefore buildings have great impact on many aspects of our life, especially on our health. Winston Churchill once said: "We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us". When designing, we focus mainly on architecture, economy and ecology, omitting the most impartant purpose of sustainability: health. Even 30% of new or refurbished buildings are considered sick buildings, where diseases like SBS (Sick Building Syndrome) ar Legionnaire's disease can affect users. This might be the consequence of i.a. inadequate HVAC design, microbial contamination, lack of natural light or bad acoustic. And the totality of factors in indoor environments that influence human health, well-being and productivity of people who work in those spaces is called "buildingomics". lt's identification is now the most important part of green building certification systems like LEED or BREEAM. These certification process concentrates more and more on non-technical aspects like productivity, well-being, satisfaction and creating non-stress environment. However fully dedicated to the subject of health is Well Building Standard, which enables the analysis of building's impact on human health.

As cities and urban population continue to grow, causing serious threats to public health, the development of health-affirming urban landscapes becomes even more important topic than ever before. The purpose of this paper is to answer the question which qualities of urban landscape make it the health-affirming landscape. In the first part of the paper, a concept of health-affirming landscapes and a modern approach to sustainable city design are examined. In the second part, the qualities of health-affirming urban landscape according to theories and research are discussed. The tools, which might be applied to urban design to create health-affirming landscapes are reviewed. The conclusions concern the need and possibilities to create health-affirming landscapes. The need for further research on impact of such landscapes on health and well-being of city dwellers is indicated.

Our reasoning is based on the belief that contemporary applied ethics are closely related to innovation and the creation of good life. At present, it is increasingly connected with technical sciences or art. An increased risk has shown that applied ethics are not only a fashion trend, but also an important part of human protection, control of dubious practices of companies and public institutions, quality of life, environment as well as assessments of the impact of modern technologies. Its current theoretical potential and implementation experience suggest that it can be an important part of positive change and humanity's vitality. Its underperformance can lead to serious consequences and an increase in social collisions. Applied ethics is not only a tool for solving problems, but also by setting up preventive mechanisms and project creation and vision for the future.

This paper follows in the study of the building of children' social interaction with parents using the capability approach. Parents' role in child well being is well documented by evolutionary psychology and psychoanalysis, here we will try to put in relation and to come to a measure of different factors that can affect its development. We propose a fuzzy expert system to measure this capability both at a theoretical and empirical level. The applied part of the paper use a data set based on a matched data source of ISTAT (Italian National Statistical Office 2008) multipurpose survey on family and on children condition in Italy to recover information on children’s education, the socio-demographic structure of their families, child care provided by relatives and parents according to the type of activities in which the children are involved, and Bank of Italy Survey on household income and wealth year 2008 (SHIW08) to control how family income may enter in the final evaluation This is one step of a more complex system allowing for a richer set of indicators and of dimension of child well being as well as for their interaction. This paper is included in an international project "Measuring Interaction between Quality of Life, Children Well-Being, Work And Public Policies" supported by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Modena.

The study concerns the moderating role of two variables - hardiness and social support - in the relation between job stressors and well-being. It was checked if there is a connection between hardiness and social support, and if these variables are directly related to the level of well-being. It was also hypothesized that hardiness and social support buffer the negative influence of stressors on well-being. The fact that social support and well-being are multidimensional variables was taken into account. The cross-sectional study was conducted on a group of 200 women employed as office workers. The results showed that hardiness correlates with the indexes of emotional support as well as practical support coming from supervisors. The connection, however, was not strong. Hardiness and social support were directly connected with the level of well-being. Interaction of these two independent variables played a marginal role. As far as the buffering role of these variables was concerned, the results have shown that hardiness did not play a buffering role and social support did to a limited degree only. The results of the study proved that it is justifiable to treat social support and well-being as multidimensional variables.
