Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) is a method comprising repeated self-reports in the participant’s natural environment which can be used to evaluate hearing aids in real life. Social situations are particularly important for such evaluations as these are situations where listening is critical and often difficult. However, as shown for a German subject sample by Schinkel-Bielefeld et al., these are also situations where test participants may skip a questionnaire as it could be perceived as impolite to answer a questionnaire on the smartphone. This leads to the underrepresentation of speech in noise situations in EMA assessment. However, the acceptance of smartphone use in public depends on cultural norms and may be larger in Asian countries. Repeating the previous study with 10 Singaporean hearing-impaired test participants, we observed that self-reports are often answered with some delay but not skipped in social situations. Also, contrary to the German study, speech in noise situations were not underrepresented in questionnaires in the Singapore study.

A well designed and highly accessible websites are very important for organizations to communicate with different categories of the users in this IT world. It has also became mandatory for various organizations to design websites and offer all its services. Analysis of specific group of government websites across a spectrum shows that there was tremendous need for longitudinal study of website content accessibility. To accomplish this they put heaps of diligent work to represent information on sites which are client driven and can be open easily by the clients having distinctive capacities. This is possible with the help of continuous monitoring by the designers to design websites according to the website content accessibility standards i.e. WCAG(Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). The responsibility of designer or concerned organization is to evaluate the web content accessibility using web content evaluators. These evaluators will generate compliance reports according to which developers can modify their website content as per the need of every user. In this paper, the current scenario of various accessibility checkers and WCAG compliance for government website is analyzed.

In the context of energy demands by growing economies, climate changes, fossil fuel pricing volatility, and improved safety and performance of nuclear power plants, many countries express interest in expanding or acquiring nuclear power capacity. In the light of the increased interest in expanding nuclear power the supply chain for nuclear power projects has received more attention in recent years. The importance of the advanced planning of procurement and manufacturing of components of nuclear facilities is critical for these projects. Many of these components are often referred to as long-lead items. They may be equipment, products and systems that are identified to have a delivery time long enough to affect directly the overall timing of a project. In order to avoid negatively affecting the project schedule, these items may need to be sourced out or manufactured years before the beginning of the project. For nuclear facilities, long-lead items include physical components such as large pressure vessels, instrumentation and controls. They may also mean programs and management systems important to the safety of the facility. Authorized nuclear operator training, site evaluation programs, and procurement are some of the examples. The nuclear power industry must often meet very demanding construction and commissioning timelines, and proper advanced planning of the long-lead items helps manage risks to project completion time. For nuclear components there are regulatory and licensing considerations that need to be considered. A national nuclear regulator must be involved early to ensure the components will meet the national legal regulatory requirements. This paper will discuss timing considerations to address the regulatory compliance of nuclear long-lead items.

PL
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest wypracowanie i zaproponowanie metodyki badania i oceny zgodności z INSPIRE, przede wszystkim w zakresie danych, metadanych i usług. Omówiona zostanie również zgodność na poziomie prawnym i technicznym.

After passing the Law on spatial information infrastructure in Poland, the interest of making spatial data and services available has increased significantly, particularly among public administration and private institutions. This entailed a series of initiatives that guaranteed building of so-called ‘thematic geoportals’, dedicated to different subjects and issues, also called thematic nodes of Spatial Information Infrastructure at regional or local level. Many companies and institutions supporting implementation of such undertakings have appeared in the market and, moreover, assured that their solutions and products are INSPIRE compliant. But what de facto means ‘INSPIRE compliant’? How to check that a product, solution or service is INSPIRE compliant? The capability to examine and estimate compliance with INSPIRE is particularly important from the public administration point of view, that spends public money to implement its projects and is scrupulously accounted for by the society. The main aim of this paper is to work out and propose methodology of examination and assessment of compliance with INSPIRE, basically with regard to data, metadata and services.

Content available Organizational Safety Climate and Work Experience
EN
The study examined the relationships between work experience and (a) safety perceptions, (b) job satisfaction, (c) compliance with safety management policies and (d) accident frequency. Participants were Ghanaian industrial workers (N = 320). They were divided into 2 cohorts: experienced and inexperienced workers. Workplace safety perceptions were assessed with Hayes et al.’s 50-item work safety scale. MANOVA was used to test for differences of statistical significance. Posterior comparison with t test consistently revealed significant differences between experienced cohorts and their inexperienced counterparts. Experienced workers indicated the best perceptions on safety, expressed the highest level of job satisfaction, were the most compliant with safety procedures and recorded the lowest accident frequency. From a practical perspective, analysing differences in work experience in relation to safety perceptions could be useful for organizations as the workersʼ experience could indicate a need for special safety programmes for particular groups.

Content available remote An analysis of the evaluation of the fracture energy using the DCB-specimen
EN
The methods to estimate the fracture energy using DCB-specimens as advocated in common standards. For instance, ASTM D 3433 and BS 7991:2001 are based on a compliance method, i.e. on linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM). Since the mechanical properties of almost all adhesives are non-linear, errors are generated. In some of the standards, the non-linear behaviour is compensated for by the use of correction terms generated from the experiments. An analysis of the methods of evaluation the fracture energy from experiments is performed. This analysis is performed first by simulating an experiment using realistic data for an engineering adhesive and then, by analysing the results with different methods. In this way, the correct fracture energy is known beforehand and the error in the evaluated fracture energy can be determined. In the present work it is shown that the magnitude of this error depends on the length of the crack. The results show that some commonly used methods generate substantial errors when a large region of non-linear deformation precedes the crack tip. It is also shown that methods based on nonlinear fracture methods do not produce this kind of error.

Europe is the only region in the world with common legislative acts regulating exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) for both the general public and workers. Council Recommendation 1999/519/EC deals with the limitation of exposure of the general public to EMF (0 Hz—300 GHz). Directive 2004/40/EC regulates the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from EMF. This paper discusses the general application of existing standards and recommendations in measurement techniques for determining compliance of measured exposure limit values and action values with those defined in 2004/40/EC.

The paper deals with the problems connected with mechanical assistance to cardiovascular system by means of the pneumatically driven artificial ventricle POLVAD-MEV and, more precisely, the influence of the pump elements' compliance being placed directly in the front of the inflow valve (inlet compliance) and behind the outflow valve (outlet compliance) on the effectiveness and safety of this assistance. The authors concentrated mainly on the changes in the output flow of the aniflcial ventricle and inertia phenomena (water-hammer effect) occurring together with different values of the compliance. All experiments were carried out in the Biocybernetics Laboratory of the Institute of Heart Prostheses in Cardiac Surgery Development Foundation in Zabrze by means of a mock circulation and a physical model of the inlet and outlet compliance.

The problem of adhesive contact for a transversely isotropic elastic half-space is considered. The problem is reduced to the solution of two coupled integral equations, and these are solved exactly. Explicit expressions are found for the contact compliance and for coefficients which characterise the singularities of contact stresses at the boundary of the contact region. The numerical results presented for some anisotropic materials show that the influence of anisotropy on the analysed mechanical quantities is significant.

Research regarding warning compliance has often emphasized the physical aspects of the warning itself. Here, we examine the role of the perceiver in sensation seeking and health orientation as individual difference variables that affect behavioral compliance to a health warning. The experiment used a laboratory-based simulation of a chemistry demonstration that has been used in previous warnings research. In addition, however, individual difference effects of sensation seeking and health orientation were investigated. Among the significant findings were a significant interaction between condition assignment and sensation seeking on compliance outcome and a significant interaction between condition and health orientation. These results indicate that individual difference variables represent significant influences on the degree to which persons comply with warnings.
