Purpose: The growing importance of e-commerce makes it necessary to look for new solutions in ways of delivering goods on the last delivery stretch from the last distribution warehouse to the final customer. The purpose of this article is to show the importance of last mile transport, to present problems connected with it and to show what modern solutions can be implemented, to solve these problems. Design/methodology/approach: The document contains an analysis of the literature related to last mile transport. Based on the literature, the article describes the problem of last-mile transport in cities and proposes solutions that could improve the flow of goods. Findings: During the literature research, a correlation was found between transport costs and the method of delivery of a parcel at the last mile stage. Originality/value: Contemporary cities and metropolises are an area of dynamic social, cultural and economic changes. More and more crowded streets and increased CO2 emissions are the effects of the development of goods flows inside the city and more people living in urban areas. The study presents modern methods of delivering shipments at the last mile and their impact on freight flows in the city.

W artykule przedstawiono przegląd modeli samochodów ciężarowych o napędzie elektrycznym. Głównymi zaletami tych pojazdów jest niski poziom emitowanego hałasu, brak emisji gazów spalinowych oraz mniejsza awaryjność zespołów napędowych. Ograniczenie stanowi krótki dystans przejazdu na jednym ładowaniu baterii oraz długi czas ładowania akumulatorów.

The article presents an overview of truck models with electric drive. The main advantages of these vehicles are the low level of noise emitted and the lack of exhaust gas emissions as well as less failure of the drive units. The limitation is a short travel distance on one battery charge and a long battery charging time.

The technology of photovoltaic solar cells can be combined with the technology of electric vehicles. During charging electric vehicles with Renewable Energy Sources (RES) as well as during their use to the atmosphere are not emitted any pollutions. The article presents a carport designed for charging electric vehicle. Paper analyzed the power course generated by the photovoltaic system in different weather conditions. As a result of the comparison with the current demands of the electric vehicle battery during the charging process the optimal way of battery charging process was discussed. Later in the article presents logistics research on charging battery of an urban vehicle used frequently by catering companies to distribute products. The authors’ aim was to determine the actual range of the small electric vehicle on a single charge, as well as to statistically compile driving parameters in conditions of urban traffic in Lublin. The process of using such a vehicle has been analyzed, including the necessary battery charging. On the basis of the tests results a set of recommendations for small electric cars users was made in order to help increase the range of the vehicles in traffic and lengthen battery life.

Sprawna organizacja dostaw ładunków w miastach jest koniecznym warunkiem poprawy jakości życia i zrównoważonego rozwoju miast. Realizacja opracowanych koncepcji napotyka jednak na liczne problemy. W artykule omówiono przyczyny zmian zachodzących współcześnie w zakresie obsługi dostaw towarów w miastach, w powiązaniu z nowymi potrzebami i wymaganiami klientów. Ponadto, przedstawiono nowe rozwiązania dystrybucji ładunków, z wykorzystaniem logistyki oraz wskazano na przeszkody utrudniające ich wdrożenie.

The efficient organization of urban freight delivery is a prerequisite for improving the quality of life and a sustainable development of the cities. The implementation of elaborated concepts, however, faces numerous problems. The article discusses the changes occurring today in the delivery of goods in cities, in conjunction with the new needs and requirements of customers. Moreover, new solutions of freight logistics problems and the obstacles to their wider implementation are presented.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie roli logistyki miejskiej w aspekcie poprawy jakości życia mieszkańców miast. Poruszana w artykule problematyka dotyczy zarządzania przepływem informacji w zakresie niwelowania problemów przestrzeni publicznej w mieście. W pracy zaproponowano model komunikacji mieszkańców z jednostką samorządu terytorialnego, którego głównym celem jest pozyskanie wiedzy i zarządzanie informacją o stanie logistyki miejskiej. Stworzony na podstawie modelu system informatyczny dodatkowo umożliwi monitorowa nie reagowania władz samorządowych na potrzeby społeczne.

The aim of the paper is a presentation of the role of urban logistics in terms of improving the quality of life of citizens. The management of the flow of information in terms of eliminating the problems of public space in the city is concerned in the article. The paper proposes a model of communication with the inhabitants of the local government unit whose a main purpose is to acquire knowledge and management of information on the state of urban logistics. A computer system designed based on the proposed model will also allow monitoring the respond of local government to social needs.

The city, which builds its competitive advantage by deliberately strengthening the communication functions of the cities space, in order to increase the number of interpersonal interaction, has the potential to become a global city. The paper contains considerations concerning the approach to determin acceptable plans for distribution in urban areas. The distribution systems as an area of research in terms of reliability and ecological transport were presented. Multilevel distribution systems were characterized. Formalization of the city transport network model and optimization task were done. An algorithm to solve the problem of route optimization based on the solution of the VRP (Vehicle Routing Problem) was proposed and described.

Logistyka miejska została wykreowana w wyniku dużego zainteresowania miastem, jako systemem logistycznym oraz procesami i przepływami, jakie na jego terenie zachodzą, stanowi więc narzędzie rozwiązywania problemów funkcjonowania obszarów zurbanizowanych, takich jak aglomeracje miejskie. Współczesne miasta charakteryzują się mnogością przepływów strumieni logistycznych oraz są obszarem, w którym możemy zastosować zasady systemowego myślenia w celu usprawnienia i uatrakcyjnienia życia mieszkańców, odciążenia od negatywnych skutków współczesnej działalności jednostek gospodarczych i zwiększenia konkurencyjności ekonomicznej danego terenu.

One of the most famous definitions of logistic was created by the Counsil of Logistics Management. This term was defined as the process of planning, realization and checking effective and economically efficient flow of raw, production materials, final products and suitable information from the creation point to the consumption point to meet customer requirements. The city logistic concept grew according to well logistic, fixed rules, these are: coordination of activities, comprehensive approach, orientation to the flows and looking at it globally. The city logistic has been created as a result of large interest of a city as a logistic system and the processes and flows that occur on its area. Therefore, it is a tool for solving problems of urban areas functioning such as urban gglomerations. Contemporary cities are characterized by a multiplicity of the logistic stream flow and they are the area, where we can apply the rules of system thinking in order to modify and improve citizens’ level of life and reduce negative effects of modern business activities and to rise the economic competitiveness of this area.

Występujące wąskie gardła, utrudnienia, tłok komunikacyjny oraz zanieczyszczenie powietrza wymaga organizacyjnej i technologicznej interwencji. Zmianami w systemie logistycznym miasta i udrożnieniem ciągów komunikacyjnych zajmuje się logistyka miejska. Jej koncepcje, rozwiązania i systemy w dużej mierze opierają się na implementacji innowacyjnych rozwiązań. Pilotażowe i modelowe programy tworzone i często wspierane przez organy Unii Europejskiej mają służyć jako benchmaki dla miast. Poniższe rozważania mają na celu wskazanie jaką rolę pełni benchamarking w logistyce miejskiej, jakie rozwiązania w logistyce miejskiej można uznać za innowacyjne oraz jakie praktyczne rozwiązania mogą posłużyć za najlepsze praktyki dla miast.
