Some aspects of monitoring of different processes in agriculture using acoustic emission phenomena

The technique of acoustic emission has been shown to be useful for monitoring and measurement of transportation and mixing of feed concentrates and other ingredients. This method is ideally suited for flow/no flow alarm indicators, requiring no calibration and only basic electronic support. If the method is to be used for analysis of mixtures, the components must be sufficiently different in particle size or density. Besides that, the detection of particle breakdown and damage should be possible.

Wykazano, że technika emisji akustycznej jest przydatna do monitorowania i pomiaru transportu oraz mieszania koncentratów paszowych i innych składników. Metoda ta idealnie nadaje się do wskaźników alarmowych przepływu/braku przepływu, nie wymagając kalibracji i jedynie podstawowego wsparcia elektronicznego. Jeżeli metoda ma być stosowana do analizy mieszanin, składniki muszą różnić się dostatecznie wielkością cząstek lub gęstością. Poza tym powinno być możliwe wykrywanie rozkładu i uszkodzeń cząstek.

In the study some experimental research concerning mixing process loose and liquid agricultural products were presented. The research is concerned the following aspects of the study: the theory of the mixing process, the trajectory of movement of the molecules involved in the mixing process, the forces affecting the structural elements of the mixers, the types of mass flow of mixed components, the method of assessing the degree of mixing of the components and the energy demand during mixing with the use of various design solutions of the mixers.

W pracy przedstawiono wybrane badania eksperymentalne dotyczące procesu mieszania sypkich i płynnych produktów rolniczych. Badania dotyczą takich aspektów pracy, jak: teoria procesu mieszania, trajektoria ruchu cząsteczek biorących udział w procesie mieszania, siły działające na elementy konstrukcyjne mieszadeł, rodzaje przepływu masowego mieszanych składników, metoda oceny stopnia wymieszania składników i zapotrzebowania na energię podczas mieszania z wykorzystaniem różnych rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych mieszadeł.

Analizowano proces suszenia ryżu, pszenicy, kukurydzy oraz zrębków drzewnych w grubej, nieruchomej warstwie. Badane materiały miały tę samą początkową zawartość wilgoci, co umożliwiło określenie wpływu wielkości ziarna oraz porowatości na przebieg procesu suszenia silosowego.

Thick stationary layers of rice, wheat, corn and wood chips of the same initial humidity were dried sep. under air (50°C, 300–3000 s) to compare the effect of material porosity on the process course. The increase in the material porosity resulted in a significant redn. in its drying time.

e-Choupal is an initiative of Indian Tobacco Company (ITC) Limited which came into existence in the year 2000 with an objective to link rural farmers via the Internet to procure agricultural products. Traditionally, agricultural commodities were procured in mandis, major agricultural marketing centers in rural areas, where the middleman make most of the profit. These middlemen used unscientific and unfair means to judge the quality and set the price of the product and therefore there has been less incentive for the farmers to invest and produce good quality output. With the formation of e-Choupal, the farmers were given a choice to sell their products freely diminishing the influence of the middlemen. This initiative also addressed issues like fragmented farms, weak institutions, and information asymmetry amongst farmers.This paper examines and evaluates the business model of ITC e-Choupal and studies the acceptance of this business by the farmers.

The outline of the technological development of solar air dryers is described, ranging from agricultural products, space heating, solar cookers, to high-temperature concentrating collectors used in solar power stations. The concept of energy self-sufficient single-family house is presented with its heating, cooling and electricity production systems based on co-operation of the air concentrating collector with a stone cumulative deposit under conditions of the Polish climate.

Polski handel zagraniczny produktami rolno-spożywczymi ma stosunkowo duży udział w handlu ogółem, a także przyczynia się do zmniejszenia deficytu obrotów handlowych. W warunkach względnie stałego popytu wewnętrznego większość przyrostu produkcji była kierowana na eksport. Był to skuteczny sposób na zagospodarowanie nadwyżek rynkowych. Cztery lata po wejściu Polski do UE dynamika wzrostu obrotów wyraźnie spadła, ale ciągle była stosunkowo wysoka. Ostatnio zmniejszyła się dynamika eksportu, a dynamika importu wzrosła. Zgodnie ze wstępnymi szacunkami wartość eksportu rolno-spożywczego w 2008 r. wyniosła 10,6 mld euro i była o 7,2% większa niż w 2007 r. Natomiast wartość importu tych produktów wzrosła o 13,3% do 9 mld euro.

Agri-food trade in Poland accounts for a relatively high proportion of overall trade and contributes to the reduction of negative trade balance. In the conditions of relatively stable domestic demand exports gathered most of the production increase in the recent years. Therefore it was an efficient way to get rid of the market surpluses. After 4 years of the EU membership the development considerably slowed down but still was relatively high. Recently the dynamics of agri-food exports has declined while acceleration has been observed on the import side. According to preliminary estimates in 2008 the value of agri-food exports totalled Euro 10.6 mld which was 7.2% up on 2007. At the same time the value of imports increased by 13.3% to euro 9 mld.

Described research included: the theory of mixing processes, movement trajectories of particulates during mixing, the forces involved in reaction on the mixer construction elements, mass flow patterns at mixing, methods of mixing quality evaluation and energy saving by avoiding of over-mixing.

Omówiono opracowywanie norm na nieprzetworzone mięso w postaci tusz i elementów handlowych. Opisano sposoby doskonalenia kodowania informacji o pochodzeniu mięsa. Ważne dla konsumenta informacje o jakości żywności, zapisane w postaci kodu numerycznego w normach EKG ONZ, mają znaleźć się w tworzonym systemie kodyfikacji produktów i usług ONZ UNSPSC. System ten ma ułatwić światowy handel towarami powszechnego użytku przez Internet.

The major information referring to the state, aims and conditions of the world\standardization of perishable food, as driven by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe UNECE was presented. A development of standards concerning unprocessed meat in a form of carcasses and trade elements was discussed. The methods of improving the code system of information on meat origin and its evaluation was described. Targeted and important information for consumers on food quality, recorded in the form of numerical code according to the UNECE standards should be actually included into the United Nations System of Products and Service Codification UNSPSC which is now found under development . This system is expected to facilitate world trade of common goods via Internet.

Artykuł prezentuje internetowe formy sprzedaży płodów rolnych. Przedstawia problem dostosowania się rolnictwa i zbytu płodów rolnych do rozwijającego się zastosowania Internetu w życiu gospodarczym oraz coraz większego jego wpływu na funkcjonowanie gospodarki. Do najważniejszych form sprzedaży płodów via Internet zaliczyć można internetowe giełdy rolnicze oraz platformy barterowe. Dają one rolnikowi szansę na pozyskanie nowych kanałów zbytu, a także na odniesienie korzyści nieosiągalnych za pomocą tradycyjnych form sprzedaży. Okazuje się, iż pomimo niewielkiej roli tych form w obrocie rolnym mogą one spełniać szereg ważnych ról, jak np. stabilizacja produkcji i ceny, czy wdrażanie do funkcjonowania gospodarstw nowoczesnych rozwiązań. Wykorzystując Internet do swego działania formy te uwypuklają swoje pozytywne strony w oddziaływaniu na ekonomiczną pozycję rolnika na rynku. Wydaje się jednak, iż także w przypadku internetowych form sprzedaży płodów, powodzenie działań producentów rolnych w większym stopniu zależy od działów pozarolniczych, niż od nich samych.

The article shows Internet ways of sale of agricultural products. It is about the problem of adjustment of agriculture and agricultural products market to developing employment of the Internet in economy which is becoming increasingly effective on economy. The most important sorts of sales of products via the Internet are internet agricultural exchange and barter platforms. They give an opportunity to gain new outlets and to make profits unattainable by traditional ways of sale to a farmer. It appears that although they playa little role in an agrarian trade, these forms may be important, for instance to make the price and production stable or to introduce up-to-date solutions to farms performance. By using the Internet these forms bring out their advantages in exerting influence on farmer's economic market position. However, it seems that internet sale of agricultural products require non-agricultural departments which are even more important if producers actions are to be a success.

Handel artykułami rolno-spożywczymi stanowi ważną część polskiego handlu zagranicznego, choć jego znaczenie maleje. Mimo to jest nadal ważny zarówno dla rolnictwa jak i polskich konsumentów. Najważniejszymi rynkami eksportowymi są Unia Europejska i Rosja. Ponieważ Polska już wkrótce będzie członkiem UE jego dalszy rozwój zależy od wyniku negocjacji w sprawie członkostwa.

Trade with agricultural products is an important part of Polish foreign trade although its meaning is diminishing. Nevertheless it remains important for Polish agriculture and for Polish consumers. The main export markets are the European Union and Russia. As Poland will be in the near future the member of the EU its development depends on the outcome of membership negotiations.

Two network types are proposed for modelling a drying process in the vibrofluidized bed, namely multilayer perceptron network and radial basis function network. Network training procedures are based on experimental data obtained for silica gel, green peas, potatoes and cabbage. Capability of prediction of MLP and RBF networks are evaluated in a feed forward and recurrent structures.

In the second part of the publication, the author discusses the proposed draft of national rules and regulations concerning the preservation of geographical names and symbols, and the verification of the specificity of agricultural products and food-stuffs. These regulation are scheduled to come into effect, during Poland's transitional period, before joining the EU. The existing laws concerning the preservation of geographical names and specific, traditional methods of food production in the EU countries is discussed in the first part of the article, published in no. 10 '98 PS.

Analysis of the inverse problems of heat and moisture transport in agricultural products with the use of parallel processing

A parallel processing algorithm was developed to salve transient, three-dimensional, quasi-linear transport problems in nonhomogeneous agricultural products of irregular geometry, and also to estimate uncertain coefficient values for the corresponding mathematical model. The algorithm was grounded on the inverse problem approach, optimization procedures, the mathematical model for the direct heat and moisture transport problems, and the parallel processing concept. This approach can be used to solve efficiently inverse problems of heat and moisture transport in complex agricultural products. It can handle transient character of the process, natural boundary conditions, nonhomogeneity and geometric irregularity of tree-dimensional objects, and dependence of the transport coefficients on temperature and moisture content. Parallel processing applied to perform simulations resulted in a significant increase in effectiveness of computations. It also resulted in a considerable increase in accuracy, as it was possible to deal with more complex problems.

Opracowano algorytm rozwiazywania nieustalonych, trójwymiarowych quasi-liniowych zagadnień transportowych w niejednorodnych produktach rolniczych o nieregularnych kształtach, z możliwością określania nieznanych wartości współczynników matematycznego modelu badanych zagadnień. Do budowy algorytmu wykorzystano metodykę zagadnień odwrotnych, procedury optymalizacyjne, matematyczny model rozwiązywania zagadnień prostych transportu ciepła i wody w złożonych produktach rolniczych. Uwzględnia ono nieustalony charakter procesu, naturalne warunki brzegowe, niejednorodność i geometryczną nieregularność trójwymiarowych obiektów, a także zależność współczynników transportowych od temperatury i zawartości wody. Zastosowanie przetwarzania równoległego podczas symulacji komputerowych znacząco poprawiło efektywność obliczeń. Wpłynęło to pośrednio także na uzyskiwanie dokładniejszych rozwiązań, bowiem możliwe się stało rozpatrywanie zagadnień o większej złożoności obliczeniowej.
