The Covid-19 pandemic has drastically affected the transport sector, because of the restrictions introduced to limit the spread of the threat. They concerned primarily passenger traffic, but trade in goods also faced completely new challenges, related to increased consumption and the dynamic development of e-commerce on the one hand and restrictions related to the pandemic and sealing borders on the other. One of the most susceptible to fluctuations in international trade is the maritime economy, which has been analysed in this article. It was checked how the global threat affected sea traffic in terms of gross weight of goods handled in main ports. The aim of the study was to characterize the impact of the pandemic on sea transport depending on the type of ship and to evaluate the current state of sea transport in the context of the level shaped by forecasts based on observations from before the coronavirus pandemic. The authors' assumption was to check whether the rail transport market has already reached the level it could reach in the absence of the virus threat. The use of a polynomial function was proposed for the study. Time series containing observations up to the outbreak of the pandemic and forecasts based on them, as well as time series containing additional observations from the pandemic period were analysed. The study results obtained allowed to conclude how the global crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic affected the cargo traffic in the sea transport, expressed by the mass of goods transshipped in major ports, depending on the individual types of ships.

Purpose: This pilot study aimed to understand the mobile buying behavior of Polish respondents in terms of the number of transactions per month during the Covid-19 pandemic time. The respondents' gender and place of residence were taken into consideration as chosen socio-demographic characteristics. Design/methodology/approach: The field survey method was applied to collect the primary data. Descriptive and inferential statistics that include the matched-pair test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and the chi-square test of independence were applied for the primary data analysis. Findings: According to the chi-square test of independence, such socio-demographic characteristics as gender, place of residence, women’s place of residence and men’s place of residence in relation to mobile buying behavior are independent. The results of the matched-pair test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test in the large and medium cities show that there is a significant difference in the average number of mobile shopping transactions per month before and during pandemic time. Research limitations/implications: The authors suggest conducting the same analysis with a larger sample size to generalize the phenomena. Practical implications: In order to stay competitive on the market, enterprises should constantly develop mobile distribution channels. Moreover, while communicating with a mobile shopper, enterprises can create similar messages, despite the gender and / or place of residence of the receivers. Originality/value: The findings will be helpful to FMCG-related marketing decision-makers and mobile shopping-related app developers.

Objectives: The purpose of this article is to present the impact of the Covid19 pandemic on the operation of airlines and the aviation sector as a whole. The pandemic forced airlines to make many changes in their operations and greatly affected the entire aviation sector. The operation of the aviation sector during the pandemic period was affected by the administrative closure of flights for months, as well as the regulation banning flights to selected countries. Methods: The study used the method of analyzing statistical data and reports on the aviation sector. The method of analyzing statistical data made it possible to compare data from the aviation sector on, among other things, the number of passengers carried, and the number of flights made. Results: As a result of the development of the Covid-19 pandemic, the aviation sector reduced the number of flights operated, which contributed to a decline in the number of passengers carried and heavy losses for the sector. During the pandemic period, the growth of airlines was sharply halted. Conclusions: Aviation around the world operated for several months in a completely new and highly unpredictable reality. The crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic is the biggest crisis in aviation history. The sector needs to define clear rules and messages in crisis situations.

The Covid-19 pandemic has acknowledged the importance of educational management information systems (EMIS) for quality management (QM) in higher education and set new directions for post-pandemic studies. Successful implementation of QM, however, processes depends mainly on lecturers' perceptions about quality and educational technology. However, higher education lecturers’ profiles regarding these quality perceptions and their commitment to technology acceptance must be investigated more. The aim of research is to analyse the relationship between Education Management Information System (EMIS) and Quality Management (QMAS) to lecturers' Continuance Commitment (CC). In response to this research gap, the researchers identified such profiles using a quantitative survey of 534 lecturers from Indonesian higher education institutions. A seven-point Likert scale was used to measure the respondents' expectations or expression of their perceived experience on all indicators used in the study. The data analyses were descriptive analysis and factor analysis. Based on the seminal work of Roger's diffusion of innovations, technology enthusiasts, visionaries, pragmatists, conservatives and sceptics remain valid in the organisation, and the uptake of educational management information systems is still in the hands of technology enthusiasts and visionaries. Quality management and EMIS acceptance are critical factors that make lecturers willing to continue using the system to support accreditation. These profiles will enable customised training in the recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pandemia Covid-19 potwierdziła znaczenie systemów informacyjnych zarządzania edukacją (Education Management Information Systems - EMIS) dla zarządzania jakością (Quality Management - QM) w szkolnictwie wyższym i wyznaczyła nowe kierunki badań post-pandemicznych. Analizy danych obejmowały analizę opisową i analizę czynnikową.

This paper provides comprehensive research on the linearity between the efficiency and safety of inland waterway transport (IWT). For this purpose, methods of statistical analysis are used. The efficiency of IWT is expressed by the transportation outputs, which today are strongly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper aims to find whether the demand for IWT has an impact on the accident occurrence probability. The results show the linearity between shipping accidents and the outputs of freight and passenger IWT. The COVID-19 crisis has a higher impact on the efficiency of passenger navigation than on freight navigation. With reduced demand, the level of safety is higher but at the cost of declining efficiency in the transport sector.

The objective of this paper is to provide a view on the problem of insufficient state protection of critical infrastructure throughout the Covid-19 crisis. The paper looks at this problem with regard to the definition of critical infrastructure, its content, and also the limitations of current approaches to critical infrastructure protection. The examples relating to the Covid-19 crisis show the practices adopted and suggest possible steps forward. The research methodology implemented in this research is based on a critical analysis of the existing literature. The themes described in this paper show there is an urgent need to change current critical infrastructure protection approaches to a resilience-based modus operandi. Specifically, this paper highlights the need to shift the understanding of critical infrastructure from an object-oriented approach towards essential services/functions and to highlight its complex, socio- technical nature. It also highlights the deficiencies of current, prevention-based approaches to critical infrastructure protection such as the insufficient focus on identification and management process of vulnerabilities, especially in relation to (inter)dependencies resulting from interconnections with other systems. The gravity of the situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, despite its negative connotations, can be used as an opportunity to examine the real condition of protection of critical infrastructure. The pandemic suggests that there is much left to be done and because of the unpredictability of the future, we need to start acting as soon as possible.

The purpose of this study is to identify, assess and compare the hierarchy of motivating factors among sales department employees of Polish companies before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study examines the COVID-19 pandemic as a specific and unprecedented crisis we had not encountered on such a scale before. The study used a survey questionnaire, the results of which were analysed using methods from multivariate statistical analysis. A decrease in respondents’ preferences for motivating factors related to the work team, the atmosphere at work and employee benefits, and a substantial increase in the importance of employment security have been observed. Attractive remuneration has retained its high position in the hierarchy of motivating factors from the time before the COVID-19 pandemic. From the point of view of a company’s surviving the crisis, sales department employees are its key assets. Understanding the changes in motivating factors caused by an unstable environment may be very useful to managers in creating effective and practical tools for motivating employees.

Introduction/background: The public health crisis, which was the Covid-19 pandemic, made it necessary to introduce changes in the HRM (human resource management) process in almost all organizations and industries. One of the industries that felt the negative effects of the crisis in a very severe way was the catering industry. Both owners of catering enterprises as well as employees in the industry had to face the challenges posed by an unexpected crisis situation. Aim of the paper: The main aim of this paper was to identify human resource management challenges and activities in the catering industry in times of Covid-19 pandemic in Poland. Materials and methods: The work uses source material in the form of literature on the subject of the crisis, as well as available reports and studies that were created during and immediately after the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Primary research was carried out on the basis of a survey method. The questionnaire was distributed among the owners or managers of catering enterprises, as well as to industry’s employees. Results and conclusions: The pandemic was an unexpected phenomenon, and its effects left a significant mark on the processes related to human resource management. The catering industry turned out to be one of the most sensitive to such crises, which meant that many current employees decided to change their profession, and the owners and managers understood the need to both diversify activities and services provided, as well as the need to introduce changes in areas directly related to human resources management. The pandemic also increased awareness of the role and the importance of qualified, competent, motivated and committed staff in overcoming crises and achieving the success of the company.

In the context of the strong outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic leading to increasing social distancing, it is difficult for businesses to access the labor market. Therefore, it is necessary to create a connection channel between the employer and the labor supplier. That helps to adapt to the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, while also taking advantage of the achievements from the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The development of a training model that connects human resource trainers with human resource users who are businesses is considered an important requirement in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The university-enterprise model demonstrates active cooperation and has a profound impact on teaching and scientific research activities in universities. Since then, constantly improving the quality of training to create labor products that meet the rigorous needs of enterprises. This study uses exploratory factor analysis methods to screen observations to analyze, evaluate and draw conclusions about the formation of a university-enterprise linkage model. Thereby helping to create a bridge in cooperation between universities and businesses. On that basis, propose solutions to promote cooperation between universities and businesses in the current Vietnamese conditions, contributing to creating high-quality labor for society, meeting the needs of digital businesses.

The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly affected the economic and social spheres of all countries. Restrictions introduced to reduce the risk of transmission have changed the structure of population movements. The impact of these restrictions on the characteristics of intercity travel is still an understudied problem. Based on the analysis of statistical data and the results of questionnaires, the article assesses the impact of pandemic restrictions on population mobility in the Western region of Ukraine and changes in the distribution of passenger flows between different modes (bus, rail, private transport, joint travel). In 2020, the volume of passenger traffic in the region decreased by an average of half compared to the previous year. The decline is sharper for rail passenger transport compared to the bus transport. For more developed railway networks, the impact of the pandemic on passenger traffic is more pronounced. Quarantine restrictions have also increased the share of own car travel. According to research, the distribution of intercity trips between modes is influenced by the age and sex of the traveler. During the pandemic, users of transport services who travel with children under the age of 14 choose private transport to travel more often than those who travel alone. The degree of influence of the above factors on the distribution of modes depends on the length of the trip. The application part of the work presents the results of modeling passenger flows of the studied region in the software environment PTV Visum. It was found that at the beginning of the quarantine restrictions the number of intercity trips decreases sharply. As the duration of restrictions increases, the rate of decline in mobility decreases. These data can be further taken into account when planning the work of transport enter-prises and meeting the population`s demand for travel. The practical application of the study results is that the identification of trends in the mobility of residents of the studying region depending on the impact of pandemic restrictions allows you to predict the mode and type of vehicles used. Based on these data, you can determine marketing strategies for the development of certain modes and directions of transportation.

The Covid-19 pandemic unexpectedly shook the entire global economy, causing it to destabilize over a long period of time. One of the sectors that was particularly hit hard was air traffic, and the changes that have taken place in it have been unmatched by any other crisis in history. The purpose of this article was to identify the time series describing the number of airline flights in Poland in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The article first presents selected statistics and indicators showing the situation of the global and domestic aviation market during the pandemic. Then, based on the data on the number of flights in Poland, the identification of the time series describing the number of flights by airlines was made. The discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) was used to determine the trend, while for periodicity verification, first statistical tests (Kruskal-Wallis test and Friedman test) and then spectral analysis were used. The confirmation of the existence of weekly seasonality allowed for the identification of the studied series as the sum of the previously determined trend and the seasonal component, as the mean value from the observations on a given day of the week. The proposed model was compared with the 7-order moving average model, as one of the most popular in the literature. As the obtained results showed, the model developed by the authors was better at identifying the studied series than the moving average. The errors were significantly lower, which made the presented solution more effective. This confirmed the validity of using wavelet analysis in the case of irregular behaviour of time series, and also showed that both spectral analysis and statistical tests (Kruskal-Walis and Fridman) proved successful in identifying the seasonal factor in the time series. The method used allowed for a satisfactory identification of the model for empirical data, however, it should be emphasized that the aviation services market is influenced by many variables and the forecasts and scenarios created should be updated and modified on an ongoing basis.

How long will the COVID-19 pandemic last? This is a core question as the new variants considered “of concern” by WHO show that the emergency is not over yet. There is no evidence that the COVID-19 will be eradicated for goods shortly: the only way to cope with it is to trust in scientific research and resist. Architecture and housing design is a structural sector of this resistance as it is a great part of the human environment. As well the house is the primary shelter where we place our domestic universe, it is the fortress that can stand at threatens of the outside world, including pandemics. But the resistance (or in updated terms, “resilience”) concerns the connection between the house’s physical shape, the quality of the space, and people’s emotional response. The formal structure of the house gets a representational meaning since it is strictly bound to some archetypical architectural figures like the enclosure which, in turn, evokes images like the shelter or the prison. Those images during lockdown time can link themselves with the fear of the pandemic worsening the distress. According to the architectural design method grounded on historical research the article states that the knowledge of the past, i.e. the way architecture coped with the great pandemics as the Black Plague, and the evolution of domestic space should be merged with innovative design that adapt the physical aspects of architecture to the emotional realm.

The Covid-19 pandemic has radically affected social and organizational behavior. The aim of the article is to indicate the number and scope of public services provided electronically during the Covid-19 pandemic. Research in this area has not been conducted so far. The authors give answer to the research question on how the limitations of social mobility during the pandemic contributed to the use of public services provided electronically. The research was carried out using the methods of a classic telephone interview and a questionnaire directed to a deliberately selected research sample. As a result of the study it was found that these limitations generated a radical increase in the number of e-services delivered by local government administration and the need to verify the methods of information management and communication with the society used so far. The trend may turn out to be much more persistent than the sanitary restrictions that triggered it. Local government units that were the subject to the study recorded an increase in the number of public services provided with use of the Electronic Platform of Public Administration Services (ePUAP) by 170.8% in 2020 compared to the number before the pandemic in 2019.

Badane jednostki samorządu terytorialnego odnotowały w 2020 roku wzrost liczby usług publicznych świadczonych z wykorzystaniem Elektronicznej Platformy Usług Administracji Publicznej (ePUAP) o 170,8% w stosunku do liczby sprzed pandemii w 2019 roku.
