Evaluation of road safety and braking efficiency of vehicles in Lithuania

Road traffic safety in Lithuania is analyzed, with the essential data on the number of transport facilities and the dynamics of the car accident rate in the period from 1982 to 2002, casualties and causes of accidents provided. The particular measurements to be taken to reduce high accident rate are recommended. Since one of the major accident causes may be faulty brakes, automobiles with the average service life for Lithuania were tested to check braking efficiency of the front and rear axle wheels.

W artykule przeanalizowano bezpieczeństwo ruchu drogowego na Litwie z uwzględnieniem ważnych danych dotyczących ilości środków transportowych i dynamiki wzrostu wypadków drogowych z ofiarami i z przyczynami wypadków, w okresie od 1982 do 2002. Przedstawiono również specjalne środki w celu obniżenia wysokiego wskaźnika wypadków. Ponieważ jedną z głównych przyczyn wypadków mogą być niesprawne hamulce, samochody z przeciętnym przebiegiem były na Litwie testowane w celu sprawdzenia sprawności hamulców przedniej i tylnej osi.

Technical characteristics of the engine tested, schematic view of the equipment used in testing ethanol effect on diesel engine, dependence of heat energy consumption on torque of the engine and the amount of ethanol, dependence of heat energy consumption on torque of the engine and the amount of ethanol with n = 1950 r.p.m. and with n = 2200 r.p.m, the dependence of the optimal amount of ethanol on the engine speed n and torque of the engine are presented in the paper.
