The article deals with a problem of reducing the manufacturing cost. The attention was focused on the essentials of cost estimation at the design stage. The methodology of technical preparation for production oriented on the lowest possible manufacturing costs was presented. The methodology assumes that costs are estimated at conceptual stage employing parametric method and Case Based Reasoning. The methodology advice costs estimation throughout the whole process of designing and project development. The methodology proposes cost estimation at technical preparation for production using analytical method. The article discuses extensively parametric, CBR and analytical method. The practical example was presented to show how the methods are executed. The methods were scrutinized and verified using real data. In the conclusion the usefulness of presented methods in the process of cost estimation was evaluated.
