W artykule podjęto próbę wyjaśnienia wpływu przekonań europocentrycznych na proces kształtowania doktryny konserwatorskiej wyrażonej w zapisach Karty Weneckiej. Celem artykułu jest pogłębienie wiedzy o kulturowych uwarunkowaniach rozwoju międzynarodowego ruchu konserwatorskiego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem procesu upowszechniania europejskich teorii konserwatorskich oraz inicjatyw na rzecz ochrony wspólnego dziedzictwa całej ludzkości. Pierwszą część rozważań poświęcono inicjatywom i koncepcjom, które miały największy wpływ na rozwój europocentryzmu konserwatorskiego do wybuchu II wojny światowej. W drugiej części wskazano na przejawy europocentryzmu w międzynarodowym dyskursie konserwatorskim od początków działalności UNESCO w roku 1945 do 1964 r., a w trzeciej omówiono te zapisy Karty Weneckiej, w których do głosu dochodzi przekonanie, że europejskie rozwiązania w zakresie konserwacji zabytków mają charakter uniwersalny.

This paper attempts to explain the influence of Eurocentric beliefs on shaping the conservation doctrine expressed in the provisions of the Venice Charter. The article aims to deepen knowledge about the cultural conditions that led to the development of the international conservation movement, with particular emphasis on the process of popularizing European conservation theories and initiatives to protect the common heritage of all humanity. The first part of the discussion is devoted to initiatives and concepts that had the most significant influence on the development of conservation Eurocentrism until the outbreak of the Second World War. The second part indicates the manifestations of Eurocentrism in the international conservation discourse from the beginning of UNESCO’s activity in 1945 to 1964, and the third discusses those provisions of the Venice Charter in which the conviction that European solutions in the conservation of monuments are universal is expressed.
