Der Beitrag entfaltet die (mögliche) Rolle, die der Unternehmensethik in Zukunft zur Integration hochentwickelter Industriegesellschaften zuwachsen kann. Nach kurzen begrifflichen Klärungen wird an einigen Beispielen die praktische Relevanz des Themas veranschaulicht. Dann werden die wichtigsten Hintergrundannahmen und philosophischen Grundlagen der weiteren Argumentation skizziert. Darauf aufbauend werden als Ken des Beitrages die Konsequenzen entfaltet, die die Unternehmensethik für ein modernes Verständnis von Unternehmensführung hat und wie sich dieses Verständnis in die Entwicklungsperspektiven der modernen Gesellschaft einordnet.

The paper argues for an important role which corporate ethics may play in the near future with respect to the increasingly urging problem of how to integrate complex modern societies. Short conceptual clarifications are followed by a few examples which underscore the practical relevance of the topic. Then the most important presuppositions of the argument and its philosophical background is unfolded. It is on this basis that we develop a broader concept of corporate responsibility, which is centered around the idea that the licence to operate a private corporation in market economies and to right to maximize profits should be understood from the very beginning as being put under the proviso of peace (in and between societies). That is: corporate strategies should be judged not only on the basis of what their contribution to profits is but also in view of the problem that they may cause severe societal conflicts and that to avoid or peacefully resolve such conflicts should be regarded as an indispensable part of corporate responsibility. Corporate ethics thus may support the law in its central task to assure peace in society
