The disposal of wastes from flue gas desulfurization (FGD) has become a serious nationwide problem in Poland. Investiga-tions are underway in many different research centres. In this paper reported are investigations into the wastes from an elec-trostatic precipitator receiving gases which have been treated in an FGD system by the dry WAWO method. The precipitator and the FGD system are operated by the thermal-electric power station of Wroclaw (about 750,000 inhabitants). Analyzed were the chemical properties of the wastes and the physicochemical properties of water extracts (using a dynamic and static method) in order to assess potential environmental impacts. The wastes wete solidified with cement and gypsum to upgrade their binding and sealing properties. Following solidification, the pH of the extracts and of the filtrates decreased from 12.5 (raw wastes) to 10.1-9.4and7.1-6.!, respectively. The values of the filtration coefficients (5-10~7to 8.2•lC^8m/s) substantiated the noticeable improvement of the sealing properties in the presence of cement, which allows a safe disposal of the investigated wastes by land/tiling.
