Values play a significant role in a human life. They motivate to action, help to make certain choices and decisions, and give meaning to human existence. The realization of desirable values shapes human character. As values are not inborn, upbringing towards values is needed. This process starts with birth and continues throughout all human life. It is realized through the contact with other people. Hence an important role in upbringing towards values is played by family, which is the fundamental environment for life and development. The article describes the process of transmitting values in family and its conditioning factors.

The Picture-Based Value Survey for Children (PBVS-C; Döring et al., 2010) assesses children’s values through self-report and thereby depicts Schwartz’s theory of universal human values at an early age (approximately six to eleven years). Recently, the original German version has been adapted for application in Poland, Bulgaria, the Ukraine, France, Italy, Switzerland, the UK, New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Brazil, Turkey, Israel, and Estonia, and it is currently adapted for application in Ireland, Russia, and Portugal. In this manuscript, we accompany the PBVS-C on its journey around the world and systematically explore culture-specifics in the adaptation process with a particular focus on the meaning of the value pictures, as the PBVS-C’s core elements. Integrating findings from these adaptations of the PBVS-C, we aim to share best practice and draw a roadmap for future adaptations in other cultures. This article further serves as a resource to locate existing studies with the PBVS-C.

Several decades ago Bergin promoted the then-controversial idea of considering religious values in psychotherapy. Much has changed in the intervening years; psychotherapists now have numerous resources available to help them in considering religious and spiritual issues in psychotherapy. In addition to considering values, we suggest there is a place to consider religious virtues in psychotherapy. Virtues are distinct from values in that the former assume a telos (created purpose or end). Whereas values focus on who we are, virtues also focus on who we are becoming. Using the three primary values from the Christian religion- faith, hope, and love-we illustrate how a virtue-based psychotherapy might consider the person of the psychotherapist and the transformational process of psychotherapy. In each case we offer potential research questions, as Bergin did in his landmark publication.

The author offers in his article a philosophical and ethical concept of cosmopolitanism realized in the thought of Immanuel Kant. The text contains a theoretical study of cosmopolitanism derived from the postmodern critique of contemporary anthropology. According to the author, cosmopolitanism should be seen as one of the types, dimensions, or forms of globalization. It is a set of values, attitudes and identities, which are universal, apolitical, and transnational. The author traces the common basic source of this values, directing readers attention to culture.

The article discusses the results of studies on values declared by high school graduates. The survey was conducted in September 2017 in two high schools in Rzeszów. 130 respondents were asked to point out 3 of the most treasured positive values and 3 of the most undesirable anti-values. The high school graduates were also asked what they expected from their Polish teachers who discover the world of values with them. The analysis of students’ answers indicates that high school graduates appreciate the most the following values: love, family, friendship. By contrast, they consider hatred, falsehood, disease and egotism to be the most unwanted anti-values. In the respondents’ view it is worth discussing thoroughly and delving into the meaning of notions such as: erotic love, friendship, freedom or hatred.

After Ukraine’s independence in 1991 Ukrainian children got wider access to the translations of the works of prominent world writers for children. The classic literature of the world, aiming to mediate the children’s feelings for beauty and literary aesthetic, became an integral part of the Ukrainian educational system. Thanks to the increase of famous children’s books written in modern Ukraine, Ukraine is now experiencing the growth of a new generation of more intelligent and capable citizens free from communism ideology, able to integrate and positively contribute to the modern multicultural world. However “children and war” is now again among the painful topics in modern Ukrainian society but not new in history and literature. There are no wars, initiated by Ukrainians. The Famine of Ukrainians in the East of Ukraine by Russians, the Second World War, physical genocide of Ukrainian families and their children for the whole century even also just for the Ukrainian language saved Pain and Distrust in the generation memory of Ukrainians. But the aim of this survey of the Ukrainian literature for children and youth is to show the developing processes in the society on the basics of the main ideas, topics, directions and values during the XX-XXI centuries, beginning since the end of the XIX century by such prominent writer like Ivan Franko.

There is argued, that the culture of social- economic security has impact on the socio-economic development of state. It is formed at several levels of human interaction: with oneself, other people, work, environment, community groups, state, world, God. There is proved that low level of culture of socio-economic security of Ukraine's population, especially state leaders has a destructive effect on the economic development, labour potential, and increasing level of corruption. The necessity to develop a culture of social- economic security in the state economic policy is proved.

Sport presents itself as a social configuration that enhances social inclusion by promoting tolerance, respect for others, cooperation, loyalty and friendship, and values associated with fair play, the most important ethical principles of sport. However, intolerance and exclusion can also be expressed in sport, certainly even more so the bigger the social inequalities and the ethnic, religious, gender, disability, and sexual orientation prejudices are in society. The processes of social exclusion, integration, and inclusion are research areas in the social sciences with consolidated knowledge, namely in the study of the problems of poverty, social inequalities, racial and ethnic discrimination, disability, and education. However, it is necessary to discuss the existing theoretical approaches and conceptions seen as explanatory principles of the reality of these fields of analysis, look at how they can frame the reality on the sports field, and then confirm them through empirical research in order to produce knowledge based on the reality of social facts. Despite the broad consensus on the potential of sport in promoting social inclusion, in this paper I stress that this potential can only become real if the orientation of sport includes strategies aimed at achieving these goals. I intend to show how the –social issue‖ in the field of sports has gained relevance in the institutional context, and thereby a new field of research for the social science of sport has been opened and needs to be deepened.

Up to now pedagogy has accumulated vast diagnostic material that allows to perform theoretical (synchronic and diachronic) analysis and to systematize data about students’ value orientations. Intensive study of value consciousness, value orientations and hierarchies in Russian axiology, sociology and ethics began in the middle of 1960s (V.A. Yadov, O.G. Drobnitskiy, etc.). Later certain efforts were made to achieve socio-psychological understanding of norm-value systems of the personality and the group (T.N. Malkovskaya, S.G. Vershlovskiy). Beginning with the end of the 1980s under the Academic Program “Man, science, society: complex research” theoretical and empirical research of general human value and value systems of the transitional period was performed (Bobneva, Sobkin). In our work we made use of data of sociologic research completed at Orenburg State University in 2000–2010. The first thing that attracts attention is that the respondents are not satisfied on the whole with their life, and with the material well-being, first of all. The respondents’ life is a constant complex process of survival. Work does not often bring even minimal means for supporting life and training. Besides, it is difficult to find work, which is paid regularly, even if the salary is not high. After a certain age it is practically impossible to find a job. Such life – “survival” – causes people’s extreme discontent. It is especially obvious in the fact that they do not want such life for their children. The faith that their children will be able to “break out” gives meaning to their existence. Nowadays it is clear that university teachers need up-to-date, concrete social and pedagogical information that is regularly updated. This information can be obtained with the help of a computer program “social support of the education process”. The database reflecting students’ learning activities and their social and professional development serves the basis of the computer program. The computer program was installed in classrooms of Orenburg State University. Every participant filled in the form (which took 10–15 minutes). On the whole 7500 participants were involved. The integrated database was sent to the rector, vice-rectors, deans and heads of departments. The research results are published in two sources: “Student 2010” and “Capacity to enhance education efficiency” (Orenburg, St. Petersburg 2010). The computer program is a powerful analytical tool. Users have access to information describing a multidimensional social and psychological portrait of the student in the form of tables and colourful diagrammes.

The aim of this article is to provide an introduction into the ethics of values developed by Józef Tischner. In his analyses, the philosopher from Cracow departs from the ethics of norms and presents the reality of choices as a way of realizing values. In the encounter with the Other, a drama takes place – one that reveals the truth about the human condition. An indispensable element of this drama is freedom, which, although it may be the cause of mistakes, is, above all, a way of the existence of good and a condition of personal growth.

Psychological wisdom concepts were reviewed. 304 people aged 18-85 were tested with use of a questionnaire aimed at learning individual (popular) wisdom concepts. Popular wisdom concepts take into account broad declarative and procedural knowledge, life experience of a person and the features of his/her character. Explicitly, under a half of respondents take the following wisdom criteria into account (also acknowledged by the psychological concepts): balancing own profits with concern for others and relation to existential problems, such as sense and direction of life. The respondents lack the consciousness that wisdom is associated with: acting for common (global) good, deep and conscious reflection of value system (consciousness of subjective value system relativity, reflecting on the issue of objective values), the consciousness of limited nature of knowledge and logical thinking and developing relativistic and dialectic thinking. 5 clusters were differentiated, representing popular wisdom concept types. In order to verify the hypothesis about the connection between popular wisdom concepts and the value system of the research participants, value questionnaires were used: Scheler’s (SWS) and Schwarz’s Portrait Value Questionnaire (PVQ). The hypothesis was confirmed. Popular wisdom concepts (what people consider to be wisdom) are connected with values appreciated by them.

The aim of the thesis is to research the connections between time perspective and values of university students. The following investigative methods were used: The Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) and Schwartz’s Portraits Value Questionnaire (PVQ-21). The group consisted of 127 students of Pedagogical University in Cracow. The results obtained show connections between temporal orientation and the values esteemed by the students. A positive correlation was found between Present-Hedonistic scale and following values: Hedonism, Stimulation and Self-direction, and negative correlation with Benevolence and Tradition. The Future perspective was positively associated with Conformity, Tradition, Achievements, Self-direction and Universalism, and negatively with Hedonism. Past-Positive is positively connected with Conformity and Tradition. Past-Negative – positively with Power and negatively with Stimulation and Self-direction.

In the midst of debates on possible causes and solutions to the current unrest in international markets, political and economic decision makers tend to primarily focus on the role of economic and financial measures and oversee the fact that the economic instability is also the result of negative occurrences beyond the economic sphere, i.e. in the area of values and culture. With reference to the findings in the 2010 World Economic Forum report and other relevant publications on the role of culture and values in economic development, the paper seeks to answer the question to what extent the present economic crisis is rooted in the crisis of some fundamental values critical not only to a sound economy but also society and what are the possible ways of dealing with it.

Society's lifestyles, influenced by the evolving preferences of values of subsequent generations, are subject to gradual changes. This variation in lifestyles requires a reflection on the patterns of physical culture and values amongst the youth, adults and the elderly. Patterns of physical culture shaped in the European tradition are also present in the contemporary lifestyles of all generations. People's choices concerning physical culture depend on the type and level of their physical activity, attitudes towards of the body, age, gender and education. In the classic physical types distinguished by Polish sociologists we can identify positive traits conducive to human development, traits inducing controversial attitude, and clearly negative ones that are health-threatening. In conclusion the paper puts forward a question about the direction of the development of physical culture patterns in future and the level of recognition of particular values by different generations. Some of the contemporary lifestyles arouse concerns of educators.

Contemporary concepts of development (the process of globalization, sustainable development) can be diversified according to their relation to axioms, natural law, values and paradigms. The subcategories obtained constitute the ground for business ethics. Ethics in business is always needed, however, it can be implemented at-source (as a component of management) or as an end-of-pipe measure. In Poland, constitutional regulations guarantee, indirectly at least, business ethics as a component of management.
