International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) has become one of the world's most valuable tools for measuring physical activity in different groups or populations. The relationship between regular, moderate-intensity physical activity and health parameters including physical fitness and aerobic capacity has been clearly proven by numerous investigations throughout the world. The aim of the present study was to determine the magnitude of differences in absolute & relative (lxmin-1, mlxkg-1xmin-1) VO2 max, by using the Astrand-Ryhming normogram in students aged 19 to 24 years, depending on their weekly energy expenditure (METminxweek-1), as diagnosed with IPAQ.The significance of differences in aerobic capacity between highly and moderately active students was evaluated. The Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated as a measure of the strength of the correlation between the above parameters in female and male groups.VO2 max was significantly higher in male and female participants, with a high level of physical activity, as determined through IPAQ criteria.

The development of information society contributes to many transformations; they virtually encompass all the aspects of the contemporary world. However, not all the realms of transformations are subject to scrutiny to the very same degree. This paper is an attempt to acquaint its readers with the issues oftentimes evaded or even not picked up by researchers. The author in this paper presents the results of the research conducted among the students of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in the realm of judging the risk resulting from the development of information society within the context of internal security as well as within the evaluation of the level of these dangers. The results of the author’s investigation indicate that there are many factors which statistically significantly determine the student’s beliefs in the scrutinized realm. Such determinants proved to be – among others- gender, the students’ field of study and the frequency of using the Internet etc.

Depressive disorders have become one of the greatest health problems of the modern society, with about 350 million people suffering from depression around the world (WHO). The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of symptoms of depressed mood and symptoms indicating the possibility of depression or its progression among young people living in the city of Szczecin, Poland. Data from 150 students (107 women and 43 men) from one of the local universities constituted the material for this anonymous study which was based on the Beck Depression Inventory – 21 questions assessing the severity of depressive symptoms. Our results showed that 78% of women and 89% of men did not show symptoms of depression (Fig. 1). The incidence of mild depressive episodes was revealed in 15% of women and 7% of men, moderate episodes in 3% of women and 2% of men, and severe depression in 4% of women and 2% of men.

Employability, understood as a set of achievements – skills, knowledge, personal qualities – that make graduates employable and successful in their profession, is more and more often a subject of research, both in the context of improving the educational offer of universities, as well as examining the quality of life and professional satisfaction of graduates. Employability is differentiated from employment – the state of having a job. In today’s unstable job market where temporary contracts and protean-type careers dominate – equipping graduates with the resources to effectively change or modify their career path is crucial. The paper aims to present the psychometric proprieties of a Polish adaptation of the A. Rothwell and Arnold Self-Perceived Employability Scale. The final version consists of 9 items and has good psychometric properties. The study of the perceived employability of students provides important knowledge regarding the graduates’ competencies, and it is an important factor in modifying the educational offer at universities and planning graduates’ satisfying careers in the contemporary unstable job market.

The purpose of this research was to determine the level of study competences among students of physical education. The study encompassed first-year students aged 18 to 26, who began their studies in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The Standard Progressive Matrices Plus, the Social Competence Questionnaire, the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, the Coping Orientation of Problem Experience Inventory, NEO Five-Factor Inventory, and the Multidimensional Self-Esteem Inventory were used. Students were characterised by a high level of study competence with regard to skills and personality. The study group was moderately homogeneous: the students starting their studies in consecutive three years did not significantly differ with respect to the analysed skills. This undermines the circulating opinions of lowering the level of competence of students in the recent years.

Study success can be influenced by following factors: (i) social elements (social class position, parents' education, parents' profession, parents' income); (ii) student-related factors (motivation, aptitude, effort, IQ, time spend on study, opportunity to learn, pre-university education); (iii) quality of instruction (organisation, course material, communication, assignments, exams, grading, course outcomes); (iv) curriculum (number of courses, sequence of courses, test schedule, system-block or parallel); (v) government (grant, student accommodation). In the paper the influence of these factors on study success is presented. Social and academic integration are central aspects. In the research we found out that "social elements" greatly influence the decision to enrol, but have less influence on marks received and the duration of study. Grants also greatly influence study success. We were surprised when we found out that factors from the "quality of instruction" group can only explain 12.3% of the variance of exam results.

The teacher’s misbehaviour has an adverse influence on students’ motivation and adjustment in school. It even has more permanent effects on students than the teacher’s good behaviour. The objective of this study was to apply Korthagen’s model of levels of change in exploring teachers’ most unacceptable characteristics from the perspective of students (n = 158), teachers (n = 78) and parents (n = 148), and to reveal possible differences depending on primary and secondary school and the length of teachers’ experience. The listed characteristics fit Korthagen’s model mostly in the levels of mission, behaviour and identity. Some differences were found between primary and secondary school, as well as ones related to teachers’ length of experience.

Background. Child sexual abuse refers to the compulsory sexual stimulation of a child or adolescent by an adult or older adolescent and includes a wide range of behavior, such as exhibitionism, fondling, sexual intercourse and using children for pornography. Objectives. The present study used the crosswise model to investigate childhood sexual abuse among Iranian university students. Material and methods. This cross-sectional study used a multi-stage method to examine 1,500 subjects in the universities of Shahroud, Iran. The questionnaire consisted of a pair of questions evaluating sexual abuse based on the crosswise approach, one sensitive and the other non-sensitive. To ensure the confidentiality of information, the questionnaire was distributed anonymously among the 1,500 students of 6 universities, and the students’ field of study was not mentioned. The collected data was analyzed with descriptive tests (mean and percent) and inferential tests, (independent t-test, chi-squared and crosswise) using SPSS 18 and STATA software. Results. A total of 11% of the girls and 27% of the boys were found to have suffered a form of sexual abuse. Conclusions. The results indicate a high prevalence of sexual abuse among Iranian children. Evaluating sexual abuse helps health policymakers to focus on parent training through health programs and educational programs in schools

The preparation for a study of the characteristics of students undertaking studies, including their motivation for choosing a particular field of study and their expectations after graduation began in 1990. The German group conducted a survey among the students of the universities of Jena, Potsdam, Berlin (HUB) and technical universities of Jena, Weimar and Zittau. A total of 1207 students were questioned. The Polish group consisted of 1649 people from 19 majors in the University of Warsaw and 10 in the Nicolaus Copernicus University of Toruń. They were surveyed, among others, on their willingness to cooperate with the local government, the assessment of tasks and values of the universities, their expectations regarding future employment and the confidence about their own development. The cooperation between the two institutions continued and the research was extended by new research topics, such as the culture of studying in the transition period and adult cultural education.

The investigation confirms the hypothesis that some symptoms of Internet addiction are related to high levels of information competence of students. Then we deal with rational and advanced Internet use assisting our mental development. In the case of students with relatively weak results in studies and low level information competence, symptoms of internet addictions frequently occur, which result in negative emotions and motivations. This leads to internet addiction, which provides compensation for emotional and social deficits of student’s personality.
