Selected physical properties of Scots pine seeds harvested from five plantations in north-eastern Poland were determined. Seed color was determined in a sensory analysis, and seeds were classified into one of four color groups: black, brown, gray or other. The results of measurements were used to calculate indicators of seed weight and seeds’ frictional and geometric properties. Physical attributes and indicators were compared by one-way analysis of variance, correlation analysis and linear regression analysis. The average values of physical properties and indicators characterizing seeds from different color groups were determined at: critical transport velocity - from 7.0 to 7.1 m • s-1, thickness - from 1.48 to 1.50 mm, width - from 2.51 to 2.54 mm, length - from 4.32 to 4.46 mm, angle of sliding friction - from 29.1 to 29.8o, weight - from 6.4 to 6.7 mg, coefficient of sliding friction - from 0.56 to 0.58, arithmetic mean diameter - from 2.77 to 2.82 mm, geometric mean diameter - from 2.52 to 2.55 mm, aspect ratio - from 56.91 to 58.64%, sphericity index - from 57.44 to 58.69%, specific weight - from 2.51 to 2.60 g • m-1, volume - from 7.90 to 8.24 mm3 and density - from 0.80 to 0.82 g • cm-3. Selected color groups differed only in length, aspect ratio and sphericity index. Seed weight was most highly correlated with the remaining attributes, and the highest value of the correlation coefficient and the equation with the highest value of the coefficient of determination were reported for the correlation between seed weight and thickness.

The paper covers the issues of the formation of the generative organs of switch-grass plants (Panicum Virgatum L.) in the correlation with the varietal features and the weather conditions in an inter-phase period of "flowering-seed formation". Switch-grass is one of the most promising perennial cereal plants to produce bio-fuel. Widespread introduction into production is held back by low seed emergence, which is due to its large dormancy state. Therefore, to study the causes of this phenomenon and the ways to reduce it is of a real relevance. In the vegetation years, the size of pollen grains ranged from 22.9 to 23.6 mkm depending on the varietal features and the weather conditions in a phase of flowering and pollen formation. A significant difference in a pollen size in a correlation with the varietal features was not recorded; the tendency towards the increase or decrease of its size was seen though. In the years under study, the sizes of pollen grains changed under the effect of weather conditions, it occurred even within one cultivar. The pollen of all the cultivar samples had the smallest size in 2018 and 2019; and in the vegetation years of 2020-2021 the average pollen sizes were much larger for all cultivars than in 2018 and 2019. Over the years under study, on the average, no significant difference in the sizes of embryo and seed, depending on the varietal features, was recorded. The growing weather conditions had a significant effect on the sizes of embryo and seeds, their length and width, and it amounted to 98-100%. The most favorable weather conditions for the processes of flowering and seed formation were created in 2019, as compared with those in 2020 and 2021, which ensured the formation of larger sizes of both embryos and seed in all the cultivars. The correlation-regression analysis of the data showed a strong linear correlation between the length and the width of embryo and the weather conditions in a phase "flowering-formation" of seed with a determination coefficient R2 = 0.9163 and a correlation coefficient R = 0.96 for the length of embryo and R2 = 0.9613 and a correlation coefficient R = 0.98 for the width of embryo.

Micro-morphological characteristics of the four Gladiolus L. species of the Ukrainian flora (G. imbricatus L., G. italicus Mill., G. palustris Gaudin and G. tenuis M. Bieb.) as regards leaves, seeds and pollens are presented with this investigation in a detailed way. An examination of the surface structure of the leaves, seeds and pollen grains of the Gladiolus species indicates that the characteristics of the ultrastructure of leaves and of pollen grains are not diagnostic for distinguishing species, but they could be important at genus level (leaves: features such as being amphistomatic, having the same quantity of immersed stomata on both surfaces and having a high stomata index, the presence and localisation of papillae, the shape of epidermal cells; pollen grains: monosulcate type with two operculums). However, the type of surface ultrastructure of the seed coat is a diagnostic feature as at genus level so for species. It can be mentioned that propose the use of features such as the shape and position of the cicatricle, the type of cuticle, the shape and boundaries of cells of testa, and the anticlinal cell walls as diagnostic features at genera level. The shape of seeds, the presence and disposition of wing, the level of the periclinal cell walls of the seed coat and types of relief are additional diagnostic features for distinguishing of Gladiolus species.

This paper presents the design concept and the parameters of a new device for cleaning and-or sorting seeds and grain produced in a conventional farm. The discussed device is a string sieve where the groove between adjacent strings is minimal at the beginning of the screen and increases towards the end of the screen. The proposed sieve poses an alternative to a screen separator comprising a set of differently-sized mesh screens with longitudinal openings. In view of the average size of farm-produced seeds, the width of the separating groove should be set at 1mm at the beginning of the screen and 11 mm at the end of the screen. In sieves not designed for grading large seeds or vetch seeds, the width of the separating groove can be set at 1 mm and 5 mm, respectively.

Plastic is a source of pollution both on land and sea that can disrupt balance of the ecosystem. The characteristic of plastic as a material is difficult to decompose causing problems for environment. Various research needed to produce bioplastics that easily biodegradable in about 60 days. Biodegradable plastics are made from organic materials in the form of starch. Durian seed starch is one of the potential raw materials that can be used as bioplastics. Durian fruit is one of the typical fruits in Indonesia, at present seeds of durian had not been used as raw materials to produce object with economic values. It is necessary to combine the processing of durian seeds through a recovery approach in the form of processing into bioplastics. The aim of study is to analyze the effect of adding PEG 400 as a plasticizer plus calcium carbonate as a solidifier. Tests were carried out on swelling ability, acid and base resistance, tensile strength and biodegradation. The variation of the addition of PEG 400 is 4%; 30%; 50% and 70% were carried out to analyze the effect of different concentrations of plasticizers. None of the tensile test results met SNI 7188-11:2018 but all variations had biodegradation values according to SNI 7188-11:2018. Swelling test resulted from 4% and 30% are 1.2% and 2.1% respectively.
