Biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea has not yet beenfully explored. There has been very little research on molluscsalong the Libyan coast. An individual of the chromodorididnudibranch Felimare picta (Philippi, 1836) was encounteredduring scuba diving at the Lido resort near the Tobruk baybasin. The sample was carefully transported to the lab inseawater, photographed, and identified. The current studyrevealed that Felimare picta was recorded for the first timeon the Libyan coast. Despite Felimare picta being rathercommon in many Mediterranean regions, records of it on thesouthern Mediterranean coasts are extremely rare or absent. It may be concluded that this study represents not only thesouthernmost record of Felimare picta in the Mediterraneanbut also the first record of the species in Libya.

We report a considerable range expansion of four Ponto-Caspian amphipod species in transitional waters along the southeastern Baltic Sea coast. Chaetogammarus warpachowskyi and Dikerogammarus haemobaphes were found for the first time in Latvia, the former being common along the coast, while the latter was encountered only in the port of Riga. This indicates a 400 to 600 km expansion along the coast, assuming an origin from the Curonian or Vistula lagoons. We also officially document an expansion for Chelicorophium curvispinum in Latvia of ca. 300 km until Riga, confirming recent unpublished records. Moreover, we document a second invasion route of Pontogammarus robustoides into Estonia from nearby Latvian waters by uncovering a population at the port of Pärnu. This species was previously known in Estonia only from the Gulf of Finland (>500 km from Pärnu). With the exception of D. haemobaphes, all newly recorded species were represented by various life-stages and ovigerous females, indicating viable populations. Overall, our findings reveal that Ponto-Caspian amphipods are much more widespread in the Baltic area than previously known and highlight the need for more stringent monitoring.

One female of Nysson distinguendus Chevrier, 1867 was found in the Wielkopolska-Kujawy Lowland in Toruń-Glinki, where vegetation is formed by multi-age pine forests with dry heaths and psammophilous grasslands. This is the first record in Poland. The present data indicate that this species may be just as widespread as N. dimidiatus Jurine, 1807, with whom N. distinguendus has long been identified.

A specimen of Facciola’s sorcerer, Facciolella oxyrhyncha (Bellotti, 1883), was caught for the first time in the central Aegean Sea, on January 2007 by a commercial bottom trawler at a depth of about 230 m on the muddy bottom of Southern Sigacik Bay, Aegean Sea, Turkey.

Improphantes geniculatus (Kulczyński 1898) is a rare steppe spider species, known from a few locations in Central Europe and from Southern part of Russia. Authors give information about afirst location of I. geniculatus in Poland, affirmed which is in “Góry Pieprzowe” Reserve near Sandomierz.

A rare chironomid species, Cladotanytarsus molestus Hirvenoja, 1962, collected at Lake Straszyńskie (the drinking water reservoir for the city of Gdańsk), was recorded from Poland for the first time. The adult male of the species is redescribed, and intraspecific morphological variations of diagnostic structures are presented in detail. Data on the species’ biology are also provided.

Seven species of Myxomycetes are reported from Poland for the first time. These are Arcyria virescens, Cribraria costata, C. elegans, C. languescens, C. mirabilis, C. pertenuis and Trichia flavicoma. They have very few localities in Europe and Cribraria pertenuis is known only from two sites worldwide. The species are described and illustrated with microphotographs, including first published micrographs of C. pertenuis. Localities are given and the taxonomy and ecology of each species are discussed.

We report on the first occurrence of Chelon labrosus in a Polish estuary. One Ch. labrosus was caught with a fyke net in the northern part of Lake Dąbie (Odra estuary) on 14 November 2007. It measured 266.92 mm in overall length and weighed 176.8 g. The fish’s metric and meristic characters, age by scale, condition, sex and maturity stage (Maier’s scale) were determined.

During my second year of dragonflie’s (Odonata) studies, I documented for the first time Leucorrhinia species in the Narew National Park; those were the L. dubia, the L. rubicunda and the L. pectoralis. With these new records, the number of Odonata species in the NNP increases to 47 species, representing 64% of the Polish Odonata fauna. Besides that, this year I registered for the first time 13 species that I did not in the previous year, until now I observed 77% of the documented NNP Odonata fauna.
