Emotions as abstract phenomena are not easy to verbalize. On the lexical level, they are most frequently thematized or expressed through imagery. The article aims at elucidating a rarely discussed problem of making emotions lingual employing sound phrasemes. Sounds and noises of animate as well as inanimate nature are in the centre of the cognitive explorations. The sounds and noises are metaphorically mapped on the abstract, hard-to-reach target domain of emotions. The analyses will be conducted on German and Polish phrasemes.

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the problem of anger in the context of selected psychotherapeutical approaches. Anger is a primarily adaptive emotion, indispensable to the correct functioning of a human being, providing protection and security, as well as regulating interpersonal contacts. However, it can become an unadapted emotion through association with previous traumatic experiences, thus making a healthy reaction more difficult. It is unadapted anger that often becomes the focus of psychotherapeutic work. Many approaches to unadapted anger and the multitude of aspects of this phenomenon allow to better understand a person who reacts with anger to events affecting them. They also enable the therapist to select the most adequate form of help.

This article present an approach to elaboration of tools for measuring of attitude in media messages. Emotions hidden in single words can have significant influence on recipient of message. Therefore effort of compiling method and indices have been taken. Osgood’s semantic differential and Likert’s scale was main techniques considered in this issue and final thoughts were basing on them. Many different obstacles are indicated for future improvements of techniques and further elaborations.

This article analyzes the shift from emotion to affect in Caryl Churchill’s writing for the theatre, a process which becomes prominent in the later seventies and culminates in the production of A Mouthful of Birds, a project designed jointly with the choreographer David Lan. The effects of the transformation remain traceable in The Skriker, a complex play taking several years to complete. It is argued that there is a tangible and logical correlation between Churchill’s dismantling of the representational apparatus associated with the tradition of institutional theatre - a process which involves, primarily, a dissolution of its artificially constructed, docile bodies into orificial ones - and her withdrawal from the use of emotional expression in favour of the affective. In the following examination, emotions are conceived as interpretative acts modelled on cognition and mediated through representations while the intensity of affect remains unstructured. Often revealed through violence, pain and suffering, affect enables the theatre to venture into the pre-cognitive and thus beyond the tradition of liberal subject formation.

A discrepancy between emotional reactions of old people and their depiction may be noticed in literature. Stereotypically, old age connotes worse functioning and negative feelings. On the other side many studies suggest that negative affect may decrease with age. In the study the part of emotional knowledge of two generations was compared. 66 young adults and 61 old people complet- ed a questionnaire in which they estimated the probability of emotional experiences in described situ- ations. The estimation was made three times and related to (1) the subject, (2) the subject's generation, (3) the opposite (younger or older) generation. Results show that old people perceive their own negative emotions as being more likely than young adults perceive their own feelings. Younger people perceived old people's emotional reactions correctly but the older group underestimated the probability of the other group's emotions, which potentially may be the reason of intergenerational misunderstandings.

The aim of the essay is to identify linguistic means that were used to describe emotional states in Jana Hensel’s bestseller book “Zonenkinder”, published in 2002. Quotations from the book are used to filter out and interpret feelings and attitudes. Zonenkinder is still regarded as a manifesto of an East German generation. The theses set out in this non-fiction book have been valid in practice until now, because they have in part a constitutive character for the new East German identity. A collectivism expressed with the collective We is also a move in the transition between the generation of losers and the generation of the new East Germans.

Strained living conditions in modern society, leading to the appearance of different negative mental states of the personality, in many ways determine the necessity for the investigation of the phenomenon of psychological (emo- tional) burned out of people. "The phenomenon of being burned out is a complicated Mehrebenensymp- tomatologie of soul loss as a result of permanent psychological tension in emotionally or cognitively complex situations of professional interaction with other people before". We propose an approach to the study of the syndrome of mental burnout of the positions o the neoclassical Eroläuterung the dual human nature. The essence of unconventional view of the dual nature of human nature after a short run down to this. Man as such has two factors. In a man, so to speak coexist two people - "a man in general" and "one man". These factors are in the dialectic. "A man in general" is the ability of man as such the fundamental need of human life ever to have in an abstract concrete insensible of it form and to satisfy, but perceived and understood in the vicinity of the individuals of it as something individual of the human race , especially him absolutely similar, but in the same time also it absolutely strange.

The paper outlines an approach to social analysis/human geography taking off from a social ontology of practice. This means a focus of attention to embodied or practical knowledges and their formation in people's everyday lives, to the world of experiences and emotions, and to the infinitude of encounters through which we make the world and are made by it in turn. The paper proceeds in three parts. First, considering the way in which subjectivity and identity are created in and through practices sets the ground. The two following sections are extensions from that discussing "embodiment and spatiality" and "affectivity and emotion" respectively. The purpose is threefold; to develop the sensuous character of practice, to consider the spatialities involved in that character, and to discuss possible developments including power and the social differentiation of bodies. The paper is concluded by a short discussion of the geographies following from the suggested account.

Presented article includes three psychological phenomena: emotions, stress and interpersonal differences. The article reveals relationships among these phenomena in the context of sex differences. It was hypothetically assumed that there are statistically important differences between women and men concerning the choice of stress coping strategy and that these differences could be caused by different emotions. The results of statistical analysis confirmed the hypothesis and showed that women cope with stress by seeking social support, taking responsibility and escape-avoidance more often than men. Men cope with stress by self-control and distancing more often than women. Different structure of dominant emotions can be the main cause of differences between women and men in their choice of coping strategy. Women experienced high level of anxiety, neuroticism, high emotional reactivity and high level of situational control. Men experienced high level of psychoticism, emotional resistance and high level of emotional expression control. Two types of emotionality were based on separated differences: famine – defined as emotional commitment and masculine – defined as emotional distance.

Psychological models of art reception postulate the presence of two fundamental effects: cognitive understanding and emotional response. Unfortunately, these models are dedicated to sighted viewers. However, even though visually impaired individuals cannot directly perceive artistic creations, audio description enables them to experience the reception of, for example, a painting. In order to answer the question of whether the reception of audio description of a painting triggers similar emotions as the reception of the actual artwork, two independent studies were conducted. The research material was an audio description of Wassily Kandinsky’s abstract watercolour sketch for Composition VII, titled „Untitled”. Subjective experiences were measured using the SUPIN scale. In Study I (N = 138), higher intensity of positive affect was observed compared to negative affect after listening to the audio description. In Study II (N = 67), an increase in positive affect intensity and a decrease in negative affect intensity were observed following the audio description. The results indicate that listening to audio description, which represents an indirect contact with a visual artwork, can improve the well-being of the listeners. The obtained results will be analysed in the context of social construction of emotions and embodied cognition.

The aim of this paper is to explore the function of emotions in language teaching methodology, with special focus on selected emotions and emotional disorders, and their implications for second language learning. Following on from this, the relationship between established language teaching methods and emotions felt by students will be discussed, and conclusions for language teachers undecided about the selection of teaching method will be presented. Furthermore, the impact of emotions on the choice and effectiveness of using language learning strategies will be analysed, and implications for language teachers and learners will be provided.

The aim of this article is to point to connections between intellectual and emotional aspects of learning. Cognitive science, especially research of neurobiologists (e.g. A. Damasio's somatic marker hypothesis) form theoretical basis of consideration of the issue and point to re-defining teaching-learning processes as necessity.

Research on emotion conducted so far has usually ignored situations where the person experiences a certain emotion, but where the external stimulus that evoked and upholds this emotion suddenly disappears. This kind of situation, however, is relatively common in everyday life. This article attempts to recognize certain consequences of those conditions under which the stimuli justifying our experience of such emotional states as fear or anxiety suddenly disappear. Research done to data by the author and his colleagues indicates increased compliance of the subject when addressed with various requests, commands or suggestion in the situation termed here “emotional see-saw” or “fear-then-relief”.

The article lights up in an overview the field of the emotions on the one hand in their dimensions of the function for the learning (memory, motivation, decision-making power), the educational dimension (development of learner, teacher, learning atmospheres) as well as in the consideration extended beyond the health dimension (emotional-physical resource), which produces a connection with the Employability. The latter dimension is based on investigations in the area of the offer of the health education in the general adult education.

The main purpose of this paper is to present the issues related to organizational change in the context of the challenges faced by both managers and other employees of a company. The proposed view is anchored in the psychodynamic approach to organization and management. This article is focused on the superior-subordinate relationship in the context of change, presenting it from the perspective of intrapsychic processes. The author makes an attempt of characterizing both rational, conscious processes and the processes that occur beneath the surface of consciousness, which are automatic and unconscious. The latter usually conceal strong emotions, both positive (hope and curiosity) and negative (anxiety, anger, disappointment), as well as the beliefs and motives of actions undertaken by organization members. The defence mechanisms questionnaire (DSQ) was used to identify the automatic application of mechanisms to cope with difficult situations. The results indicate that neurotic mechanisms dominate among the surveyed managers, specially idealization, but also pseudoaltruism gains high level. However, more dangerous and counterproductive from the perspective of team work, are such mechanisms as projection, denial, isolation and displacement. Interviews with managers made it possible to develop a picture of the organizational change from the perspective of managers.

We present the embodied appraisal theory of emotions and show how it handles a variety of intuitions we hold about affective states. While appreciating its integrative potential, we point out possible difficulties that it might face from further investigation of embodied non-emotional states. Following Darwin and his work on the expression of emotions, we suggest that some obviously non-emotional mental states comply with the criteria set by Prinz's theory. Therefore it is doubtful whether his definition of emotions is correct and whether perceptual approaches are useful in explicating the nature of emotion types.

A customer-oriented approach to product development with particular consideration of emotions is represented by Kansei Engineering. Developed by Mitsuo Nagamachi, Kansei Engineering is characterized by the possibility to capture customer perceptions and to translate them into product features. In order to assess these perceptions, a semantic space is generated. For this purpose it is necessary to identify Kansei words that are gathered up through research in marketing concepts, scientific journals and service reports. This procedure though displays the disadvantage of not being able to identify all emotions referring to the investigated product. One way to improve the identification of Kansei words is Repertory Grid. The Repertory Grid technique makes it possible to gather unaltered perceptions through in-depth interviews from the direct interaction with customers. Thus, the interview phase of the Repertory Grid technique offers an improved approach to identify of Kansei words.

This article will refers to the normative nature of emotions in the suicidal situation of children and adolescents aged 12-19. Suicides are a huge problem for the 21st century civilization. Many countries have negative birth rates (The World Factbook –Poland: -0,11, 2014), suicide continues to be committed by very young people. The normality of emotion in suicide attempt is worth exploring subject. Suicidal thoughts, attempts or suicide are stigmatized in society - these actions are a departure from accepted principles or norms. Emotions, especially the negative ones, are an inseparable part of the suicide process. Due to the dangers that occur in the present day, it is worth paying attention to preventive and preventive measures directed mainly to the youngest representatives of society.

Semantic prosody is typically referred to as an evaluative function of certain words or multiword items appearing within collocates of positive or negative meaning. The present study deals with the semantic prosody (context properties) of extended lexical units (ELUs) according to the psycholinguistic variables ‘valence’ (emotional positivity), ‘arousal’ (excitement, mood-enhancement), and ‘concreteness’. The object of investigation are the verbal phrases feel blue (unambiguous idiomatic ELU, without a literal counterpart) and see red (ambiguous ELU, idiomatic or literal). The study builds on Snefjella & Kuperman (2016) who propose context norms for English words on the basis of a USENET mega-corpus. For the detection of ELU representations, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted with speakers of American English. For the detection of the context values of ELUs, a corpus research was carried on by using the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) and the News on the Web corpus (NOW). The results suggest that ELU contexts largely conform to the averaged context norms of ELU constituents. ELU representations are strongly dissociated from contexts.
