In 1973–2011 in Poznań, aphid catches were carried out using Johnson’s suction trap. Since then the suction trap located at the Institute of Plant Protection – National Research Institute in Poznań has continuously recorded the daily and seasonal dynamics of aphid flights. The collected results has been used to establish one of the largest databases of this type in Europe. The data also allow tracking changes in aphid biodiversity under the changing climatic conditions. Three aphid species of Diuraphis spp. were identified: D. muehlei (Börner, 1950) – in 1974, D. bromicola (Hille Ris Lambers, 1959) – in 1988, D. noxia (Kurdjumov, 1913) – in 2003 as a result of systematic and long-term aphid collections. The occurrence of D. noxia presents a particular risk to cereal crops in Poland. This expansive aphid species that originates from Asia and the Mediterranean is a vector of Barley yellow dwarf viruses (BYDV), and has become one of the most important pest of wheat and barley in the world. Changes in climatic conditions that have been observed in recent years in Poland such as hot summer, long and warm autumn, mild winter seem to be optimal for occurrence and development of aphid species from warmer parts of Europe.

In the period from September 2008 to July 2009 in the Grunwald district in the city of Poznań, Poland, a total of 609 localities of flowering English ivy were recorded, for which 769 plants were described. These plants were found in different localities, most of them euhemerobic. The biggest number of flowering specimens was recorded in home gardens. Support for climbing plants was mainly provided by trees and shrubs, including fruit trees – pear and apple trees. Among the other tree species, the biggest group comprises Scots pine, common birch, European larch and common locust. Other types of supports included fences, buildings and elements of small architecture. A very high number of specimens in the generative stage in the Grunwald district indicates considerable popularity and at the same time very good adaptation of ivy not only to the climatic conditions of the city of Poznań, but also to anthropogenic changes in the habitat.

Changes in production methods of Ericaceae ornamental plants could have caused them to become more vulnerable to weak pathogens. The aim of this study was to investigate the casual agent of Ericaceous plant damage. Plants and peat substrate were collected from two nurseries near Poznań. After isolation on agar medium and fulfilling Koch postulates it was found that the casual agent of Ericaceae ornamentalplant damage was Pestalotiopsis sydowiana (Bresadole) B.C. Sutton, a new species noted in Poland.

Zmiany w systemie produkcji ozdobnych roślin wrzosowatych mogły spowodować wzrost znaczenia i szkodliwości słabych patogenów. Sutton. Gatunek ten jest w Polsce nowym groźnym patogenem roślin wrzosowatych.

A method of trivalent and sexivalent chromium speciation in well waters in the city of Poznań was developed. The determinations were performed using atomic spectrophotometric absorption with a graphite cuvette, which involved multiple injection and the CDS (initial tube cooling). The total chromium was determined directly in the collected and acidified samples, while the sexivalent chromium in the extract from a water sample. The extraction was performed using ammonium tetramethylendithiocarbamate (APDC) and methy-isobuthylketone (MIBK) in the presence of a buffer. The trivalent chromium was calculated from the difference between the Cr and Cr(VI). Chromium concentration in underground waters falls between 0.0-5.0 μg/1, with the detection limit for the direct determination method for chromium - 0.01 μg/1. The amount of Cr(VI) ranges from 0.00-1.20 μg/l, with the detection limit for the determination method in extract - 0.01 μg/l.

In contrast to other natural objects situated within boundaries of the city of Poznań, the former ecological site "Bogdanka" distinguishes itself by its exceptional floristic values. The flora of this object comprises 527 taxons of vascular plants derived from 91 families and 295 genera, of which 180 can be found on rare and threatened species lists. In addition, 15 species under legal protection as well as 34 species from all country and regional lists of rare and endangered species occur here. The most valuable floristic elements include: Iris sibirica, Galium odoratum, Hierohloë odorata, Trollius europaeus or Dianthus superbus. Several trees with monumental or close to monumental circumferences as well as splendid trees can also be found in this site. The area should regain its protected status as soon as possible.

The total of 35 splendid pear trees was inventoried in the Citadel Park and they constitute approximately 13% of the most valuable trees in this park. The circumferences of the measured trees ranged from 150 to 264 cm. Considerable circumferences were determined in the case of 32 pear trees, of which 11 trees had monumental circumferences and 21 specimens – close to monumental circumferences. From among 14 trees found to be in a very good health condition and having monumental or close to monumental circumferences, “candidates” for legal protection in the form of nature monuments should be selected.

Seeds of Pyrus calleryana were sampled from 11 stations located in Poznań green areas. Three of them represented cultivar ‘Capital’, whereas the remaining eight represented cultivar ‘Chanticleer’. The viability of seeds was qualified by means of tetrazolium test. The results of staining test showed that viability of Callery pear seeds was high and ranged from 90 to 100%.
