An attempt was made to explore the connections between creativity and computer use using in-depth interviews. A sample of people in various occupations were asked how and why they used the computer at work, how they had learnt to use it, how use of this new technology had changed their work, and what their general views were on the spread of computers. Analysis of the interviews led to the conclusion that the scope offered by the new technology is being exploited more fully by those in more creative jobs, but the method of computer use depends not only creative opportunities in the work but on the character of the occupation. There is an example of this in the difference between artists and technicians. The former may be more creative traditionally, but the character of their work means they have less use for computers than the less artistic technicians, for whom using the latest technology is essential..

In the case of dynamic changes in the labour market and high unemployment, the question of which abilities give a chance of fnding a job, or maintaining it is particularly important. It concerns the employees as well as employers who are seeking suitable employees and they must know what skills are needed to develop their business. Adapting workers and businesses to the requirements of a changing economy becomes a condition of their survival and development. And these changes are related primarily to the processes of transformation and economic modernization, and globalization and internationalization of the economy. In this article factors infuencing the increasing importance of intercultural competence in the Polish labour market and the implications of this change for employers and employees, that may occur in diferent types of organizations have been discussed. Intercultural competencies have been defned as knowledge, skills and attitudes to allow for establishing and maintaining positive personal contacts and professional relationships and efective communication with members of other cultures. Te frst part of this article concerns the factors of internationalization of the Polish labour market. Te second one shows the consequences of this phenomenon for organizations: businesses, business environments and others.

The article explores the relationship between labour and work in Levinas, taking into consideration Arendt’s understanding of action as well as the Marxist conception of labour. The sections dealing with the concept of work in Levinas’ Totality and Infinity offer a roughly reproduction of the Marxist dichotomy creation/self-creation: on one hand there is the claim to the unity of labour and expression; on the other hand there is an alienated labour with this unity broken. Here the works are commodities and workers dishonoured and, what is more, exploited. Thus the reader is left with following questions: What is the true reason of breaking this fundamental bond of a person with herself/himself? How precisely this break is accomplished?

The European Commission reacted on the recent labour market developments in Member Countries with the communication New Skills for New Jobs (NSNJ). One of the main themes of this communication is that the highly qualified labour force is the precondition of development of competitive and sustainable economy. To meet these objectives there is an eminent necessity to invest to the right skills and to effective anticipation of future trends in skill needs. The study Skills Supply and Demand in Europe developed by European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop) is one of the important contributions to the future labour market trends anticipation. The authors of this article are describing the modelling approaches and results of this study enriched by the results for the Slovak Republic.

Constant Elasticity of Substitution production function allows us, compared with a Cobb-Douglas function, to model different efficiency trends of labour and capital. In this article, we explore the efficiency trends of labour and capital in supply systems for the private and public sectors in Slovakia independently. If a single exponential trend for technical progress is used, the Cobb-Douglas production function can be used for the private sector and Leontieff production function for the public sector. We, however find a CES function with separate trends based on Box-Cox transformations outperforms capturing technological progress by models with a single exponential trend. Labour and capital efficiency gains in our preferred model are converging downwards to a positive constant for labour and increasing over time for capital in the private sector, whereas they are gradually decreasing for both factors in the public sector. The elasticity of substitution between labour and capital is significantly greater than zero, but also lower than 0.5 in preferred models for both sectors.

The paper describes the specific approach of Regulation School to growth theory and models. Contemporary neoclassical research is built upon a strong substitutability between labour and capital. Regulation Theory takes into account the rough complementarity of production factors, as evidenced by econometric studies. In the Regulation Approach, the study of the long run aims at formalizing the two sided relationship between economic trends, institutions, demography and technology. Finally, studies of the long run history, and relevant cross national analyses, might disentangle between trends and continuities, as well as qualitative and therefore quantitative changes. In the globalization, the relations between the financial, the economic, and the social 'poles' change deeply: the financial pole becomes dominates the other poles.

The basic content of the article regards extreme opinions on attitudes and behaviours of partners who cooperate together in economic processes – employers and employees. These opinions are defined as extreme because they present in an extremely negative light a picture of the partner, without whom the very processes could not occur. The economic and socio-psychological conditioning of expressed opinions is a foundation of labour relations. It is against this background, which includes mainly relations between labour and capital, that an attempt to explain the factors shaping the opinions was made.

Main objective of this paper is to analyse the impact of foreign direct investments (FDI) on labour force in transition economies, through monitoring and quantification of selected labour force market indicators. This research analyses and discusses the effects of FDI inward flow on labour force indicators in transition economies from the economic and social point of view (i.e. quality of life of labour force). The paper argues that FDI inward flow should have a positive effect on labour force, through the increase of employment growth rate, wages, and reduction of income inequality. Data processing was done by applying Linear Mixed-Effects Models on 17 transition countries during the period 2000 – 2017. The findings show a positive and significant impact of FDI inward flow on employment rate and on wages and salaries, while the impact of FDI inward flow on income inequality is uncertain. Finally, there are policy and future research recommendations.

Every culture develops within exact time and space. Its formation is besides its own development affected also by exogenous changes, by which it is enriched by new cultural elements. One of the factors forming cultural specifications of Kysuce was colonization and migration of inhabitants, which were an important part of the historical development of the region. The aim of the paper is to mention some of their influences of the colonization based on the “Ius Valachorum” and isolated settlement colonization, but mainly the impact of labour migration on the traditional culture of the studied region. We focus on selected aspects and acquaint with acceptance and acquisition of selected components of traditional culture of other areas of Slovakia, respectively of other ethnicities, which was the result of colonization.

Due to population ageing, Czech and Slovak elderly workers have been becoming an important element in the labour market while their economic activity has been still rather low. To increase it, it is essential not only to enhance the competencies of elderly workers and eliminate prejudices of employers against them but also to encourage their motivation to work. In such context, value of work for elderly workers may be crucial. This paper focuses on the value of work and the attitudes to work of elderly Czech and Slovak workers. It is based on the European Value Study (EVS) longitudinal data which surveyed work values in 1991, 1999 and 2008. As the paper illustrates, attitudes to work of elderly workers are very different in Czech Republic and Slovakia nowadays. The differences are not evident only in the generation of elderly workers but in younger generations too. The diversity of the attitudes to work is not caused by age but has been reflecting the different development of Czech and Slovak society since the separation in 1993. There has been a considerable decrease of work value in the Czech Republic as well as the decrease of work satisfaction and ambitions. Work attitudes of the Slovak population have remained stable in the last two decades. The value of work has remained very important for elderly Slovak workers emphasising job security and good salary.
